I stopped by the BEND store for the second time to drop an Amazon return off. I decided to get a piece of pizza and a salad. The slice was so soggy that I could hardly get it into the ridiculous individual pizza boxes. The salad bar was uninteresting. The lettuce bins were virtually empty, as well as many of the veggies. There was no customer help. Bottom line, I'll stick with Trader Joes and Market of Choice (they have by far the best salads, hot foods, bakery, etc. The customer service is great. All Whole Foods are not created equally. SF:Bay Area locations vary in size and of course inventory. This can prove problematic when you are used to certain things like that cool cheese nub bin or the bone marrow and random bones freezer to make your own healthy bone broth just like your mom used to make. I found the cheese bin but not the bones. The butcher section was just a-ok. No hanging aged beef like the Whole Foods in San Mateo. The seafood section is limited. I found my usual staples here: wine, cheese, mortadella, salame, Greek yogurt, kombucha, greens, pasture raised eggs, and gluten free snacks. Oh and a natural lip balm! The bakery section is good - again a size issue. The coffee area is inconvenient. The hot food station isn't as well stocked as SF or Seattle Whole Foods so they should take a grouping of trays out completely to make access the coffee area and bakery less annoying. My 5 stars? I love Whole Foods and this location gave me the staples I need to be happy. Great customer service and easy parking round out a well deserved fiver. Just be forewarned - this location is compact. Watch out for Kevin at Whole Foods off of Highway 20. He put all of my groceries away when I was away from my cart for one minute. Of course I had to search the store for my cart and it took quite a while till I figured out that he put everything away. instead of saying he was sorry he told me I was lying that I was away from my cart for less than a minute. He didn't believe that I had just left for a minute so he's calling me a liar in the store. I had gone to grab lettuce and came right back and my cart was gone and Kevin was not very nice about it. I plan to see him when I go in there. I'm a neighbor. I won't say anything, but I'd watch out for him. Watch out. He doesn't put all your stuff away and call you a liar. Organic fruit and veggie selection is usually pretty good. Staff is mostly friendly and helpful. Fair amount of deals if you are an Amazon prime member. This is our main grocery store here in Bend. We can find most things. Only critiques are: 1. bulk area. The offerings are getting smaller and smaller. And there are never peanuts in the fresh peanut butter machine. Bulk is an easy way to reduce plastic consumption. By lessening bulk offerings I feel forced to buy plastic wrapped goods which is disappointing. This alone is making me consider going to Market of Choice instead which has the best bulk aisles I've seen in Bend. 2. There is no seating if you want to eat something you purchased at deli/cold case before shopping. Instead it's been taken over by self check out and curbside pick up orders. This Whole Foods is definitely a 3 star. Nothing terribly wrong but nothing too right either. I've been to a few in different cities but this is my least favorite one. Last time i asked if they had naan, the employee looked at me as if I asked for some exotic deerheart. I guess it's not to common but I'm pretty sure Safeway has it. When I travel with friends, we usually go to a local supermarket to get food so we don't have to eat out all the time, and I'm the person getting enough stuff as if to stock up our doomsday bunker in preparation for the end times. It's just what I do. When I told them that I had gone to this Whole Foods while visiting Bend, and had bought only FIVE items, they didn't believe me. "I saved the receipt!" I told them. That's how surreal this was. So, this store. I was curious to see how much WF had changed, since I hadn't been to one in a while (not any close to me). I don't know if this store was an anomaly, but: no deli, no hot foods, no decent bakery stuff, nada. The entire deli/hot food section of the store was dark and empty. I wandered around aimlessly, kind of in circles as I looked to see if they actually made their former stuff and had it pre-packaged, but no, they did not. I found a few small things - one of them, the cookies, were stale. So why 3 stars? Well, as it turned out, I discovered that somehow in the short time I was there, I lost my almost-new wool hat. I called the next day, not thinking anyone would have found it and turned it in, but lo, they had it at their lost and found! But even better, the first person I spoke to in grocery was SO chipper. He sounded happy I called! I guess I've gotten used to surly service workers these days. He passed me along to customer service, where I think it was Jason (?) I talked to, and HE was delightfully chipper. So pleasant! So helpful! Yes they had my hat! He sounded almost as delighted as I was. Between the 1 star I'd give the store itself and the 5 stars for the lovely employees I spoke to, I came up with a 5. Thanks guys, you both rocked! read more

There are probably at least 4 other grocery stores within a 4 miles radius that you can find most of the exact same items for a much much lower price. I have worked at multiple Wholefoods locations and frequented Wholefoods around the country from the east coast to the south and southwest. The entire company has run into the ground from a customer service and shopping experience standpoint. This is likely the worst Wholefoods location in the country other than potentially Newark New Jersey. I'm not going to write out the long long list of reasons but avoid at all costs. Some of the employees are amazing but overall just bad news. The one thing id ever buy there is the 365 Greek olive oil but that's IT. read more

This location used to be a Wild Oats before WF took the reins a few years ago. It is smaller and not as swank as some WF locations (and I've visited many WF in many cities to make that comparison). But it is a very good store with a nice selection (for the store size) of good products, friendly people on staff and ample parking in the lot. In fact, it is our second favorite place to shop for groceries and associated "stuff" in Bend - right behind Newport Avenue Market. The "PLUSES": One of the big assets for this Whole Foods location is the well stocked fresh produce section for organic products (a weak point for Newport in organics) and most often the reason we stop in. We also appreciate the "bin" items (Newport doesn't have those) for organic raw nuts and grains. The woman who runs the cheese and specialty foods section and all who work there are so helpful and the selection is great. (Woohoo too for their bulk olives.) The wine section has some interesting buys from time to time and the wine steward knows her stuff. The deli take out has vegan, vegetarian and omnivore options where one can make a pretty healthy take out meal - who says "fast food" has to be ultra processed? And there is cozy little area to sit and eat in if you like. The food supplements and vitamin selection here is top notch, plus they can normally special order things for you if they don't stock it. We don't eat much meat and when we do we normally buy it at Newport Avenue Market, same goes for the fish which we eat more often, but on the occasions when we have purchased from the WF meat and seafood counter, the folks working there are most helpful. Real beeswax candles in the homewares section! Including beeswax tapers. Hard to find and nice to have here! Papyrus greeting cards. Saving the best for last, the checkers are so helpful and make customers feel as if they appreciate you doing business with Bend's Whole Foods. The "MINUSES": Items here can be a tad more than other stores. (But you get what you pay for in quality so maybe that's not a "minus" after all.) Whomever designed this store with the ULTRA high platform counter for the meat and produce section - ummm...what were they thinking? One feels like a supplicant before the court standing as a customer there. The "BOTTOM LINE": Last night while my hubby and I enjoyed the glow of beeswax candles while eating our dinner of organic items all purchased at Whole Foods; maple glazed yams with mascarpone, a salad of watercress with walnuts and apples and a glass (or two) of vino, we remembered again why we are happy to have Whole Foods in town. read more

Review is primarily for the Amazon-based pick-up service. I've been in the store a few times, and it's a little small as other reviewers note, but I can say the online ordering and pickup works like a charm. Overall, I like shopping here -- great produce, great organic options, great whole grain options. It's irritating that they don't carry some national brands but that's true of Whole Foods everywhere. What's great about this store is it's literally opposite from Safeway. So, order your wine, your national brands, your commodity stuff from Safeway -- do their Drive Up and Go -- and then order your meats, cheeses, produce, and organic stuff here. Two quick stops and you get the best of both worlds. (And then go to the food trucks just up the road for lunch.) read more

This store continues to be a disappointment, they never have anything in stock. After COVID I understood the excuses, but other stores (Safeway, Market of Choice, WFM in Portland, etc) have come back. I assume it's that they underpay their employees which given their food cost is really unacceptable. Every time I go in there (since Amazon took over), I swear I'll never go back. First of all, it's so small that if there are more than 25 people shopping, you're constantly bumping into each other. And the LINES! I was there at 11 am on a Wednesday--not exactly prime time--and if I couldn't have used the express lane, I would've easily waited a half hour to check out. NOT OK! For the prices you pay here, you should never have to wait more than 5 minutes to check out--especially since there's no way to queue up without being in everyone else's way. Also, the inventory situation is pathetic. There are big holes on the shelves, and what's there is predominantly Whole Foods brand instead of the usual brand mix you'd find in a regular store. I couldn't even find Twining's tea, which is standard everywhere else. I was also surprised to see that there were self-serve baked goods sitting out for everyone to paw through--ever heard of Covid? Shocking that OSHA hasn't shut their bakery down for that. Whole Foods used to be so much better before Bezos got his greedy hands on it, and he'll run it into the ground just to add a few more bucks to his gazillions. I am not sure I have ever written a review about a grocery store before but I have had 2 really great experiences in a row and I wanted to share my thanks to Whole Foods and their staff. Both of my encounters were related to the meat department. About 2 weeks, I bought a Salmon Filet. They didn't carry any that were de-boned but when I asked, the butcher or meat service employee kindly offered to debone by fish no problem. I would expect that at a specialty butcher but didn't expect that kind of service at Whole Foods. Last night I made a quick stop in and was specifically looking for a new Nom Nom Paleo product. It has been selling out fast and apparently the Bend Whole Foods is no different, as it had just sold out there. One of the employees checked with their prepared foods to see if they could just get me a small sample to use for my dinner, unfortunately, they were out as well. Still, another employee took my name down to call me as soon as it is restocked in the next few days. While the story is small and their selection is not as great as other Whole Foods I have been to, the customer service has been top notch and that wins me over. read more

Been years since I have been in this store. Remember when it was a Wild Oats and the a WF. for some reason it looked bigger inside than I remember, but the building has not been enlarged. Must be organized more efficiently inside. Many more prepared options than I recall. Coffee selection is now very limited as they only have hot pots for coffee and the coffee station is now a beer and pizza station. Guess they figured you can get a good latte elsewhere. Prices are typically higher than big chain markets, but we all know that. But, it is often the store of choice for unusual items, like salted cod or cactus leaves. This store even had a taqueria and a fresh made hamburger station. It will be interesting to see what changes the Amazon ownership brings. Already there is a "bus locker" type setup in the front of the store for Amazon delivered packages to be left. Handy for those who are not home a lot and want to stymie the package pirates who steal off of front porches. Help was courteous and eager to answer your questions. I view a Whole Foods as a place where an amazing selection of prepared food is ready to be served hot in the hot food bar. This Whole Foods never seems to have the best selection of hot food, it's always small and not worth spending the per pound fee on. The one thing I can count on at this Whole Foods is the pizza. They cook it in a large wood fired oven, the crust is super thin and tasty. The sauce is generous and the cheese is a nice consistency. This could be the best pizza in Bend but it comes with a very large amount of oil dripping off the top so grab those napkins and dab away to reduce your calorie intake so you can enjoy 2 large slices. That oil dabbing could possibly earn you a cookie from the per pound cookie selection case, where the Mexican wedding cookie always wins best tasting! Avoid the cannolis in the bakery case as I couldn't even continue to chew they tasted pretty bad. read more

Went in to pick up a few items and they have had staffing issues so no deli, limited bakery, etc. You also have to wait forever to check out because they have so few cashiers. It's a good option if you want their product food line and you have lots of time to check out. If you need to drop off a return for Amazon, even better! :-) I only come here occasionally and every time I am amazed how other places have staff but Whole Foods can't retain staff and have so little product choice on their shelves. I have been shopping at whole foods a long time. I believed in the ethics and priories of the company. This comment is not on the individual store on bend. And the clerks ego helped me did everything they could to help. However when I had to take my issue to the actual company I found out very quickly just how much the Whole Foods company actually values it's customers I had sent two messages now. One was in regards to a promo that I was told I could not get riembursed for. The second has now been completely ignored. If this is how Whole Foods treats it's long time customers then I want no part of that. Obviously customer satisfaction is not a priority to your company. The quality of the food, the selection and the staff has gone down dramatically. Employee seem like they don't want to be there or help you. The employee at the meat counter guy was wearing his mask around his chin while helping an elderly woman. While trying to check out I was ignored my multiple employee who walked away from their register as I approached. Its consistently the worst whole food location I have ever been to. For now on I will drive the extra distance to Market of Choice because they are just better in every way. read more

It's not the biggest store that I've been to, but I was certainly happy with the size after visiting the WF in Winter Park, Florida. At least the lay out makes sense and you're not constantly bumping into other customers in the aisles. It is pricey. When buying the 365 brand, you can get by with the savings but the stuff that I enjoy and buy are a bit expensive. The almonds are $8 for a small container. The coconut water is $5 for 16 ounces. Between BD and I we can slam 6 bottles of that a day. The formula I buy is $30. I've paid close to $100 for every trip. The hot food station is very pro vegetarian/ vegan. There are times where the only meat will be rotisserie chicken shoved in the corner and a whole slew of various grains, veggies, and tofus. The salad bar is not that large. Staff is pretty friendly (both at the dessert and cheese station and check out). All in all, I enjoy walking around and sampling the goods. I like going down each aisle and finding things you can't get at other grocery chains and trying them out. I'll probably always come back (at least once a week) even though my wallet protests and even though it's a little frou frou. It's okay to have a little frou frou in your life. read more

You lost another customer and here is why - At 530 pm - no fresh bread at the bread counter. What? Steam table is worse than dorm food - no fresh roasted meats, vegetables, etc. Only weird food recipes that are not appealing. Current foods are shriveled, and old. No selections that make sense. Staff is oblivious and management does not return calls. Overall, I think store management is to blame. Will make the extra trip to Market of Choice. I love WHOLE FOODS-Bend! Large, amazing selection-Owned by AMAZON! Visit at least 3 times a week. Love the salad bar! Today, no mushrooms one of my faves, replaced by Brussels Sprouts. Love that veggie too! But alas, it was way undercooked! No way could I eat and chew it. I am wondering, don't the cooks taste their wares before they set them out? Meh. Of all the Whole Foods I've been to this one was the most mediocre. They did not have the Roasted Vegetable 365 brand frozen pizzas, any packaged bagels (except one brand with plain and cinnamon options which were not great) that were not gluten-free, Artisan Flatbread Vegan Harvest bread, or any Ezekiel sprouted English muffins. I travel extensively for work and end up at the Whole Foods of every town. And Whole Foods of Bend: You've got heart! Other places are bigger, have more stuff, etc. but this place is the most fun. I got in a long conversation with Hammer and he told me how to make all kinds of stuff, where the cows they serve come from, where the fish are from... man, these guys could give Portland foodies a run for their money! Since Amazon has purchased Whole Foods. The availability of products has gone down. Only those highly rated that sell fast will stay. The soups and hot foods uses much more Un-environmentally friendly foods now. It's almost as if they decided to purposely contradict the way that all the other local grocery stores are organized. Great soups! When it's cold outside and we need to warm up, we stop by for some soup. They usually have 2 or 3 choices daily. All have been thick, rich and delicious. We especially liked the beef barely, the mushroom, the tomato basil and the chicken noodle. Ok we like almost all of them. The have a great little deli. They offer a wide variety of lunch options. Always a couple of pizza options. A nice selection of fresh sushi to to go. Both green and pasta salads. Plenty of room to eat in -- they have several tables inside as well as outside seating ( though uncomfortable metal chairs) when the weather is warm. read more
