She was so helpful that because they didn't have it in her department, even though it was their product it was in another part of the store personally walked us over to the item. She did with the smile and polite conversation. I love that kind of service which is missing in so many businesses these days. We wound up doing a little bit more shopping in the store that day because of the staff and the quality of the product. I'm new to the whole "Whole Foods Market" and really enjoying it. I see that the store follow the same model from location to location so I am sure that the reviews will be pretty much the same except for the location specific items. This store in Berkley is pretty much a mirror of our store in Long Island This store is perfectly located in a very large lot with a huge parking lot. The lot is busy and we had to look for a space since there are so many people here. The store is very big and very bright. They really make it a welcome place to do your shopping. Besides your standard groceries of canned items, boxed items, bottles and cans, they have an AMAZING meat and fish counter. Plenty of choices of both fresh and cooked items are right there. There is also a wide variety of sauces and spices so there is something for everyone. They have an amazing selection of fresh sandwiches and even a pizza oven for constant supply of fresh pizza. They also make fresh sandwiches on demand in their very complete deli. There is also a major selection of soups, salads, warm and cold food. Clearly you can spend hours here. In the back of the store is the return center for your Amazon purchases. The staff here is amazing and can help you with any questions or direct yu to someone who can. I am always impressed to see people working and clearly enjoying themselves. Their staff is always very helpful and the lines are not too long like at other locations. Their fresh pasta bar is always a hit when I'm in the food for some fresh pasta! And they have a great wine selection. The store is always pretty clean and inviting atmosphere! Do not buy fish here. It's old and not fresh, and disgusting. We bought King salmon from the fish counter and immediately noticed at home it was limp and mushy, and most likely dyed. We cooked it and tried to eat some but had to throw it all away. I guess what can you expect buying salmon from what is essentially Amazon, but still they need to have some quality control. Just had a great experience with the staff while shopping in the Gilman Whole Foods. I am from out of town, don't know the store and was shopping from my daughter's grocery list. As there is no Whole Foods immediately near us, this is the location we come to when we periodically need to do some Whole Foods shopping. The shelves here tend to be well stocked, and the associates are usually pretty friendly. Bought a large, 9" fruit tart over the weekend here, and everyone raved about how abundant and fresh the fruit was on the tart. We also try to shop in the morning to avoid the long lines at the registers. Only minor complaint is how small the parking lot is. Pulling in and out can be a bit tricky when the lot is busy, especially with all of the pedestrians walking through the lot. read more

They lose a star because their bathrooms are nasty! That's why I don't buy food that they prepare there. The store is clean, otherwise. It has gone down since Bezos bought it. The people working there are very, very nice. They have good deals on wine, cheese, gluten-free goods, and other things. They have pretty pricey fruits and veggies. But, it is what it is. A decent store with a lot of things that I buy. I don't make the trek out here, especially since the opening of Sprouts which has Whole Foods type items but without the pretense. But, it's probably one of the best stores. Their coffee bar is now a staging area for Instacart and the Amazon delivery services. But there's coffee at Philz, so it may not be needed. They have a fancy food place with a cashier's station and I've never seen anyone working there, so that's weird. But, it's fine for what it is and if you are looking for decent ingredients for a meal, then you can find them. But I would avoid the prepared foods. Seriously. read more

I came here a few days ago got some decent pizza slices. Today I came and there were no veggie options outside of some very obviously dried out cheese pizza slices. No one wants that. I kindly asked the pizza maker when the new veggie pizzas are coming out, she said 20 minutes. Did not even bother making eye contact with me, just doing her job. Not wanting to wait that long, I subsequently got a falafel sandwich, again, I had to request customer service after waiting five minutes without anyone acknowledging my presence, and turned out to be so dry that I later threw half of it away. What a waste of money. I should not have to begging for decent food that I am paying for. The thing that makes me sad is that it was obvious that the employees were absolutely miserable. And of course, the food represented their discontent. Thank you Amazon, if you had a logarithm of how much you take away a customer's joy in simple errands, you would definitely be number one. Cheers mate, I'm sure my review makes no difference to you as long as the bottom line is doing well. I look forward to you spending billions of dollars on sending wealthy/famous people to outer space but refuse to provide a decent slice pizza to your customers. This used to be a great store but it has gone to the dogs. Always out of everything, some of the employees are very nice but getting any kind of help there is impossible. The produce dept is hard to maneuver as they always have there carts in the way and the staff doesn't seem to be aware of the customers. There's a couple of guys that work there that are real smart asses. Aldo I think there is something wrong with the management at that particular Whole Foids as the one on Telegraph seems to be a well oiled machine , but the one on Gilman is always lacking. read more

FALSE ADVERTISEMENT ALARM: Management for the Gilman Whole Foods location shuts down the fish section way before closing time. My wife and I have seen them close as early as 6:30 PM. Sometimes the meat section too. You need to beg them to bring fish from inside their storage. Depending on who's there, they'll be more or less reluctant to offer the promised service. One guy is always very nice and helpful. Another guy in the staff refused to clean the branzino fish. They will sometimes refuse service all together. So you travel there based on advertised hours, and find the fish and meat sections closed. Management in other locations doesn't do that. read more

this is a rather large whole foods. hubby and i had been in berkeley for an event that morning, had lunch near campus, and wanted to pick up some food for the week before heading back over to the peninsula. this location was so big i was struggling to find the hot food/salad bar area! alas, i found it, along with the refrigerated prepared foods section. more options than my usual whole foods, but at the same price ($12.99/pound). i chose a couple veggies, and some protein, boxed them up, and paid at the self-checkout. i appreciated that the restrooms were at the front, since we actually needed to use the facilities! they were also clean, to boot. the parking lot was a good size, but it was pretty full on a sunday afternoon. while there was street parking, some spots were metered, some were timed. read more

I've got impeccable taste in music. I've got impeccable taste in grocery stores. Barbra Streisand. Bruce Spring Springsteen 'Queen of the Supermarket' rattles through my brain as i navigate the aisles. Girlfriend. An older Whole Foods. Its got some character. Usually I go to newer ones that are larger. This one is smaller, older and fits into the Berkeley neighborhood perfectly. My typical habit is being the last person to hit the hot food bar at any given Whole Foods - I put old crusty expensive food that has been sitting under the heat lamps for many many hours into my container - and I like it. What I've noticed is other locations will clear out their hot food selections maybe an hour earlier than this location does. This location limits selection of hot foods and only leaves behind selections with a longer shelf life. I like that. No, no... I don't always eat like a rat over my kitchen sink - better is to come here and enjoy my meal at their tiny picnic tables up front near the electric vehicle charging stations - which is clutch. Beautifully stocked WF. With such items as Lake Tahoe soda springs water, Minions the rise of Gru organic chickpea puffs and Archer grass-fed beef jerky. Yeaahhhhh1!!! Each time I go it's worse. Staff are treated like robots (I have a couple friends who have worked there recently) and the prepared food tastes like what it is... assembly line generic nastiness. I'd already quit Amazon but once Bezos started openly supporting a fascist, I made the decision to never step foot into a Whole Foods again. Lots to not like at this Whole Foods. The parking lot is too small and the lines are painted too close to each other so your doors will get dented. Half of the square footage is dedicated to their delivery service and you'll be bumping carts with harried delivery service people. Meat and fish are understaffed. Has anyone tested the water quality of their dispenser by the checkout #6? It is supposed to have close to zero contaminants. Glacier Water Dispenser at Safeway on San Pablo in El Cerrito is 0.1, perfect! Whole Foods on Gilman water is 27, and that is exactly the same as the tap water. We gave it to our plants in our yard, and that's all it is good for. But how could Whole Foods sell the tap water and charge 59 cents for it? read more

Nice large store before the pandemic it was very nice to shop here but ever since this place always has a long line and it snakes around all of the ready made food and baked goods. My first grocery store review goes to this whole foods... ONLY for the creme brulee and brie cheese! I wish I could tell you how many of the bowls we have collected because of all the times I've bought a creme brulee from the specialty section (right next to the deli area). I've called beforehand (you have to sit through an automated voice to dial the specialty) to ask if they still have creme brulees - they have CHOCOLATE and VANILLA flavor!!! I'm just a fan of creme brulees and wholefoods doesn't ever disappoint (Except one time where one of the ladies put toooo much sugar to torch). I love the glass bowl you get when you order one and I love that they can torch it for you. The consistency is chef's kiss. For ~$6, your tummy will be so so sooo happy - and I say this with experience. I also really like the brie selection here. Better than your local grocery store/safeway. Yes it's more $$ but good brie should never be that cheap. I got the rice crackers to pair well with the brie cheeses! This location is clean and on the nicer end.
