Chris was super helpful and responsive over email in helping me understand print sizing, bleeds, and paper types. Since my project was small, he invited me to come check out the paper options to print on and printed them on the spot. He was very helpful in his recommendations. Even though I had to add some pages to my booklet he still kept the originally quoted price which was so nice! The price was also super reasonable (and even about half the price as some other similar places I was quoted for). Needed a portfolio printed on short notice. This place was the most no-nonsense, straightforward place that I found. It also turned out to be the cheapest. As far as quality, I'd recommend doing a test print. I've been using other printers and equipment and everything comes out a little differently. This shop, based on my experience, prints colors richer than most. For comparison, Blurb, the online printer, produced colors a bit more like what I was seeing on screen, but my screen isn't calibrated to any specification and seems like it's on the cooler side. read more

Jim and his staff have been printing my zine, The East Village Inky, since 1998 - issue 2. It's always a pleasure to see them and their work - unlike mine - is consistently excellent! I made a major boo boo laying out issue 58 - Chris noticed and averted the disaster by calling me for clarification (more than an hour after their scheduled closing...I hope my chuckleheadedness didn't make an extra-long work day for him.) I could only imagine how such an interaction might go down at a different print shop, but fortunately for me, Wholesale runs on good manners, friendliness, and excellent customer service. After asking several Manhattan print shops for an estimate on what it would cost to print my graphic novel, a printer in Chelsea who specializes in banners and signs referred me to Wholesale Copies, saying that they were the best printers in Manhattan. Wholesale had no Yelp reviews, but I'd been all over town getting quotes for a small run of books, and everyone was trying to soak me. I'm a student, not a corporation, folks. It was a printer in Berkeley, California who first taught me the old adage: "I can give it to you cheap, I can give it to you fast, and I can do a high-quality job. Pick two." But the printing team at Wholesale copies gave me all three. I decided to hold off on my graphic novel, and just get postcards printed instead. I brought them my three PDF files on a flash drive at 9am in the morning, and they had printed 900 postcards for me--300 of each of three versions--at 2pm that same day. The reproduction quality is top-notch, and everyone I gave them to remarked the same. And they charged me less than any other printer in New York I talked to--all of whom I found here on Yelp. Their place is a little bit tricky to find, since they don't have a storefront. It's on the NE corner of 28th Street at 5th Ave. (Between 5th and Madison). Press button #7 at the door, and they'll buzz you in. Take the elevator to the fourth floor. Bingo. Maybe because they don't have a street-level storefront, their rent is more reasonable, and they pass that savings forward to their clients. The guys there told me that their business is mostly playbills for theaters, and that they're mostly getting business through word-of-mouth. Everyone was friendly, positive, sincere, energetic, and professional, and every person I worked with, both with my graphic novel and postcard needs, seemed to like working there. After seeing my postcards, my peers in my MFA program all wanted to know where I got them printed so quickly and inexpensively. Dylan's review is dead on. When I was in litigation this was my go to place for copies, sometimes needing thousands of copies of multiple documents. They are fast and usually have my documents ready. Call ahead of time. My routine was to email them a pdf copy of what I needed copies of, and they would give a timeline. Prices are the best for simple black and white copies. Great staff.
