We did a lot of research on DJs before landing on Matt and we know we made the right choice. Our research included listening to samples, and even visiting an open house by Vox. The first thing our wedding planner asked us when we started the planning process was, "what parts of our wedding are the most important to us and what are the least? We reminisced about the good ol' days when rap and hip hop were great, and he already knew specifically the type of current and throwback music we'd like to hear throughout the night (even by song). The day of our wedding was just as we had imagined and followed what we had spoken about to a T. He seamlessly incorporated our custom first dance song, emceed professionally even with last minute changes, knew how to keep the night going according to schedule, when to slow it down for our older guests, and picked it up and kept the party going the rest of the night. The only thing I knew that I wanted for our wedding was a great dance party. We didn't have any real opinions on what songs needed to be played to get the party started, so having a DJ that could read the room while also having his pulse on today's music and dance hits was a must. Where to begin??? Oh I know... how about Matt, you ROCK!!!! We were very fortunate to have met Matt through our wedding coordinator Mindy, from Mindy & Co. We met him for coffee, and fell in love with him right off the bat. He knows his stuff; asked us what we listened to, and what type of vibe/mood we wanted for the night. He provided us a very useful link where there are options of the most popular songs for different categories (father/daughter dance; mother/son dance; first dance; cake cutting song...etc) there was also an option of "songs not to play"(like Shout or the Chicken Dance). A few weeks before our wedding, we met with him again to go over the timeline of the day. We were stuck on two (2) songs for the bridal party and bride/groom entrance: "Home" by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros or "Best Day of My Life" by American Authors... and he gave us his honest opinion on how our music choices were already flowing so he was the tie breaker... we went with "Home". During that meeting, we had expressed to him that we absolutely didn't want random people grabbing the microphone on the wedding and giving a speech; we gave him a list of who were the only ones who could use the mic, and he made that happen! We had offered a spot for music requests made by our guests on our wedding website, I sent that final list to him a few days before the wedding, my goal was not to have our guests lining up to requests songs. Our wedding day... what a wonderful day that was! Matt was so professional, dressed to the nines! Our wedding had a slight delay after dinner, but Matt made sure to keep the music upbeat so it would get our guest on the dance floor. When my wife and I were looking for someone to DJ our wedding, the choices seemed overwhelming. But Who's That DJ caught our eye -- first, because of their fun name, and second, because of their great reviews. I contacted Matt, and he got back to me the same day. We talked on the phone for a lengthy amount of time. He was friendly and genuine. He asked what my (then) fiancée and I were looking for in a DJ, what kind of music we enjoyed, etc. -- he really wanted to get to know us, and give us the experience that fit us (most of the other DJs we spoke to didn't even ask these questions, which seems insane). We were sold! Cut to three months or so before the wedding. We met with Dominic, the DJ that Matt had assigned to us. Dominic came to us (he drove all the way across the valley to meet us in Echo Park, which was very cool of him). We talked more about the wedding, our song choices, the order of events, etc. Like Matt, Dominic was friendly and collaborative and open to ideas. (He was also VERY enthusiastic, and clearly a music lover, which were big plusses). Between then and the day of the wedding, we traded emails with Dominic, finely tuning everything. On the day of the wedding, Dominic showed up on time, worked well with the day-of coordinator, and emceed. We were very clear with Dominic about what we needed (and he asked lots of questions), so he came prepared with everything. He set up speakers and wireless mics for my wife and I and the officiant. There were no technical difficulties. Of course, the most important question of all: HOW WAS THE MUSIC? My wife and I provided Dominic with a playlist of songs we wanted played, which he expertly shuffled together. There was never a lull in the evening. Everyone had a blast and RAVED about Dominic. I cannot say enough about how amazing Matt was. To say that the music is one of the most important aspects of your wedding isn't new to anyone, but not only was Matt exceptionally great the night of our wedding but there are so many nuances that you don't realize that go into his job that exponentially increase his value for us. First, there's having the technical knowledge about the size of the space you are in and what will fill it with great sound, he nailed it. Then there's the ceremony music and audio for our vows-two different set ups with very different specs, Matt nailed both again to perfection. We even had a string quartet for the cocktail hour that he wired for sound since we were outdoors and it was to perfection. Before any of the wedding functions he performed he also met us out at the site to answer any questions and put our minds at ease about that night as well as emailing us an easy to use music list maker and song selection list, amazing! We selected almost 100 songs, but told Matt he could use his judgment on what to play, what not to play, and to feel free to add in any additional songs. The music was absolutely PERFECT! I'm not kidding when I say our dance floor was completely packed the entire night. All of our guests told us how much fun they had dancing and how good the music was. He is also a fabulous MC and knows how to make a wedding run really smooth. A lot of DJs are constantly on the mic making sure their voice is heard, but Matt spoke the perfect amount and introduced all of the wedding activities without a hitch. Matt was amazing! We were looking for a DJ for our wedding who would not be cheesy and would keep people on the dance floor all night. We got that and more! Prior to the wedding, Matt communicated with us via email and over Zoom to come up with our songs (processional, recessional, first dance, etc.) and to discuss the music we would like during the ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, and dancing. We gave him some of our favorites and he ran with them. The music was perfect at all points of our wedding. And once the dancing had started, Matt was clearly attuned to what songs were keeping people on the dance floor late into the night. My husband and I had a fantastic experience with Who's That DJ? for our wedding this past September. Matt and Dominic were both very quick with correspondence and very easy to work with. The best DJ you could ever ask for. Matt MADE our wedding reception. From being the MC to the music, you will not regret hiring him. I was planning my wedding myself and I had no idea what to look for when picking a DJ so I was very nervous. I filled out the online inquiry based on Yelp reviews and Matt responded right away, worked with my pricing, answered my questions and provided thoughtful suggestions on how to make our venue pop with the sound and lighting. From working with Matt up to the wedding day, picking out songs and the overall vibe we wanted, to making everyone (wedding party, groom, family) feel so comfortable during reception, he was one of the only vendors I didn't have to worry about on my special day.
