The dressing however was VERY good. Small salad but good. If it was bigger, throw salmon on it and you have a meal. Had salmon with a goat cheese polenta. Big piece of fish and it was quite good. For dessert had the chocolate buttermilk cake/pie. It was good but not too sweet which I liked. Also served with a little ice cream. I believe the world should be a la mode but that's me. The caramel cake was for me too sweet (if there is such a thing). Very good but the icing was pure sugar. Not a bad thing just depends on what you want. Service was good. Nice place overall with an upscale ambiance. Quick and responsive service. The empanada appy was delicious, but my main course of chicken and waffles was lackluster. The chicken was a bit dry and the waffle had a odd pumpkin spice flavor cooked in. Not exactly a seasonally appropriate flavor for the summer. My buddy liked his fish, so maybe other items are better. Still, nice to have such and establishment in Columbus and I'll definitely be back to try some other dishes. Maybe I had higher expectations that whah was available. Dined on Sunday at 1pm, yes it was superbowl Sunday, but they seemed super understaffed. I loved the space the high beams, decor and the quaint bar/patio up the stairs... but.... the service, and food was lacking. The eggrolls must have rode in the window for 15 minutes, because despite the amazing flavor, there was no crunch. The lettuce under it was wilted which is a big red flag to long hot window time. The mango chutney that came with it was amazing, so flavors are there, just not execution. The drinks were OK, my glass was dirty on arrival and then reused for my refil from an already unpolished glass, but my old man's bloody Mary's were really good. The sauce on the shrimp and Grits was fire, but the use of quick grits and not actual grits was disappointing as well as the whole Lox sandwich. Gross hot window abused cream cheese and capers, warm salmon and a sad excuse for a cucumber salad. I really had higher expectations for this place. The only upside was seeing the hostess remove rude self seating people for a family who waited properly... which turned out to be a family of a employee, the expo I will assume since he was running food, who sat with them for at least 20 minutes, before we decided to leave... our server was nice, not really attentive because I'm pretty sure she had the whole floor, poor thing. I LOVE their adult strawberry lemonade. I also had the chef special of halibut. I expected more for the price I paid, but the food was good. We also had the steak salad, and the veggies were perfect. My meal here was delicious! I had the chick pea and green tomato hash. It was filled with delicious fresh vegetables and the right combination of seasonings. However, I think this place would also be a meat eater's paradise. Someone next to our table ordered a steak that looked like it would have been on Fred Flinstone's table. If I can give them a 0 star, I would. Reviews and menu looked positive. Decided to try them out for lunch while visiting from California with family who resides in Columbus. Growing up in the racially diverse state like southern California, never have I was treated with such a disregard/disrespect. My visit to Wicked Hen was truly a wicked experience. Walking in at little after 1:00 p.m., there were several parties awaiting by the hostess station by the front of the house. Hostess did not acknowledge us from the moment we walked in (party of 3 women and a child - we'd be hard not to notice). Thought, okay if we stand in line at the hostess station, they will eventually seat us or at least greet and let us know that they will seat us soon. Nope, the hostess spoke with the gentleman who was ordering the gift certificate and did not even look at me who was standing right behind him. I thought that was weird but didn't say anything. She went away to speak to someone about the certificate I presume. Then after 10 minutes she came back and called out the party who was next to be seated. I was still awaiting by the hostess desk by 'please wait here' signage. There were 3 other parties awaiting by the front. By then, couple of the servers and manager (he actually thought I was getting the gift certificate and handed me the change - I pointed him to the right person) came by but still no one acknowledged us. The hostess was not in sight. After another 10 minutes, a lady who was waiting to be seated, pointed out that hostess completely ignored us. By this time, my mom said let's just go and I agreed and we walked out. I've been in many restaurants and have never ever felt this kind of treatment. It is sad but as a minority (Asian), you know when you are discriminated against. It's a shame, we're not living in the 60s. This is freaking 2017 in the United States of America! Is this for reals? Restaurant is a hospitality business. You do not treat your customers this way. The worst Columbus restaurant experience, ever! I don't care how good their food is. I won't be returning to them. The service was absolutely HORRIBLE and I'm 6 months pregnant...it's 1:30pm and I still haven't ate my mother didn't get any food and we are now gone. The waitress we had, had a very nasty attitude. They wouldn't even give us plates for the cake we brought to be able to cut the cake. First she said that they were out, that all of them were dirty (mind you it was only 3 other tables there and we were the first ones there AND they knew we were coming bc again I made reservations before today) then she said that the only use them for appetizers not for ppl who "bring birthday cakes" lastly, when we asked for the manager, the manager comes out with a mouth full of food CHEWING AND TALKING TO us with a mouth full of food..WHILE WE STILL WAITING ON FOOD. Wow! We went on a Saturday evening (even though it said they were closed on Yelp we as we knew they were not)and sat upstairs for the first time. We met Corey the bartender and he was great. He knew his stuff! He paired up some wine and after dinner drink options as well as our cocktail selections for our appetizers. They were serving their Valentines Dinner menu and it was the bomb! Surf and turf with fried lobster tail, sea bass along with several other selections. Fried calamari as an appetizer as well. We were really excited about trying this place on our way to the beach. The menu looked great, and the decor and location was really nice. Unfortunately, it took close to an hour to get our food after ordering. The server was polite, but she kept telling us the food was coming right out and we would continue to wait long periods of time. She apologized at the end of our meal for the delay, but we didn't hear anything from the manager. The charcuterie plate was pretty scant for what you pay. The buffalo burger was over cooked and dry, and the gyro was so so. My tomato soup and wedge salad were good, but that's about it. First time to colombus and to this resturant. I called to make a reservation and had to leave a message. I received a call back about a half hour later confirming my reservation and time. My party of seven arrived at the resturant about a half hour early and were told that no reservation was made. The hostess got the manager "Paul" who told me that he called me twice and left a voice message, which was not the case. I actually talked to Paul on the phone when he called me back and he is the one who confirmed my reservation. He was disrespectful in his mannerisms when talking me that I had to wait an additional hour to be seated. He never wrote down my information for the reservation and had little regard for my party and the way he treated us. We decided to give this place another try. We both got a lamb burger. I got 3/4 of a cup of wine for $12. It was the last of an old bottle. He got a Moscow Mule with flat ginger ale, not even ginger beer. We ordered medium and got well done with no lettuce for $18 each. Service was good, but food is overpriced for the quality. Today I went with friends for lunch. The server gave us the creeps and was not friendly at all. I can get over that since it's the luck of the draw, but the food was average. I ordered the Buffalo burger with sweet potato fries. My friend also got the same. They serve the fries with a sweet chili sauce poured over the fries which made them soggy and sweet. Very unappealing and should be an option like ketchup. With that said, when I did ask for ketchup, the server said, "for what?!". We all looked at him confused and he said that was gross. I had the opportunity to try eating at the Wicked Hen for the first time, with my wife and friends. The food was really good. The hostess was really polite and our waitress (Shenae) was really nice! She did an excellent job of suggesting what we should try, from appetizers, our meal and what mixed drinks we should try. I would have given the Wicked Hen 5 stars but I observed the manager go around and talk to other patrons about their dinning experience. He never once spoke to us about our experience. I've traveled all around the country eating at fine restaurants and they always come by the table to talk with us. I wont say why I think he didn't stop by our table! If you're looking for a nice dinner out this is the place you should pick. It's a little on the higher price side, but well worth it. Amazing wait staff; everyone is so accommodating and wants to give the customer the best experience possible. The chef puts an original twist on southern dishes making the menu completely unique from other restaurants in Columbus. I generally don't care for fish, but the salmon dish they have is awesome, as well as their nightly specials. I highly recommend trying the Wicked Hen! read more
