Had a wonderful group dining experience here this weekend. The reputation for this place is deserved and I really had one of the best dinners that I've had in a long time here. I felt like I was in the Bear (tv show) with the changing menu (we did pre-fix). We got a tour of the kitchen afterwards and got a glimpse of the whole operation as well as getting to see the special chef's table (seems like it'd be a cool experience and potentially worth the extra cost). I think what I enjoyed most here was the unique flavors and takes on traditional dishes. I loved the beat salad for example (so fresh and so clean as OutKast put it best) and with the mashed potato's that came with the short rib (so tender and flavorful as well), the mustard flavor and other ingredient that I don't typically like, only enhanced the dish for me. The potato soup was solid and very creamy. We also had the duck, which was tender, and delicious. I was glad to share dishes and "game the system." I had both the old fashioned and tried the old fashioned girl and both were good. I meant to get the smoky old fashioned because I saw someone else getting this and it looked delicious but they thought I wanted the old fashioned girl, which also has a smokey flavor. The dessert chocolate-e muffin concoction was rich and tasty. The chef actually came out during our visit and sat with us and jokingly tried to order food from his wait staff. I enjoyed this comedic act and felt like there was a real personal touch to our meal. My only real disappointment was our check-out experience where we couldn't get our credit card back and it took almost 30 minutes to actually pay and leave. What and absolutely amazing experience. We brought our family here when our son graduated ABOLC at Ft. Benning and what a once in a lifetime experience. We are used to NYC fine dining establishments and this was right in the same strata for us. The service was impeccable, they placed us in the owners "family" booth in the back and we were treated like royality from start to finish...the service was out of this world. Intimate setting to have a fancy dinner out with your loved one. Service was superb. I noticed that we had multiple people taking care of our table, which was not a problem at all. All staff were very attentive and professional. We ordered from the 4 course menu: 1. Coastal Seafood Ceviche - It had a nice little kick to it. I just came back from Mexico last month and this was one of the many dishes that I missed. Perfect dish for a starter. 2. Octopus Togarashi and Pei Mussels - I loved loved loved the octopus!! I've never had such tender and savory-smokey like flavored octopus. I was expecting some spice from the togarashi but really didn't taste any (but it was still very delicious)! Each ingredient on the dish had a very distinct taste. I would say that the mussels were a little more on the salty side, which became even more overpowering when eaten with the wasabi tobiko. 3. Plantation Quail and Sausage Roulade - A southern dish with a Mediterranean twist. Loved it. 4. The staff was helpful in accommodating sauces on the side and answering our questions on the menu, checking for food allergies/sensitivities, refilling our glasses. Wow! I just returned to Columbus after 10 years. I first visited Epic in 2013 and delighted to see in 2024 Epic continues to thrive. My experience... Logan, front of house Bar Manager, I compliment his role. He is incredibly knowledgeable about the cocktails, wine and after dinner drinks. The wait staff are on top of clearing and serving. The food.. I had the vegetarian three course menu. It was amazing! I have travelled to nearly every continent and eaten in Michelin Star restaurants in major cities around the globe. This was our first time at Epic and it was as incredible as we thought it'd be. We started off with great cocktails. The one pictured was called "Island Ice" and came out with a smoking effect. It was served by the bartender who actually came to our table. On a side note, this was one of the coolest things to us. Everyone was all hands on deck. Our server was awesome and checked on us constantly, but we were given our bread by one person, entree by another, dessert by more. It was awesome that it was an "all hands on deck" kind of feel. At no point did we not have something we needed. Of course the food was excellent, but it was also cool how they made it a "chapter" and even brought the silverware in a book. The fruit was fresh and sweet. The seafood was a hit, and we were amazed by the intricate designs of the plate. There were awesome touches like whipped feta, banana fritters, and fried sweet potatoes that really stood out. The chef came out and chatted for a bit, and it was the epitome of fine dining. Obviously, no real skill involved. Ok, this is not a Michelin rated restaurant. But, the cook should know the attention needed to hit medium rare and how to accomplish it. Especially when a filter is almost round in shape. The 4 course serving at $75 is an appropriate amount. And the other servings were above average. I had beet tartare (it was very...earthy as beets are but it literally was just raw beets with a stale cracker on top?), Bigoli pasta (that was cold, a little hard, and the sausage was meh), NY Strip (steak itself was decent but the sides were laughable with literally no flavor), and the chocolate torte tasted like a little debbie met a sad brownie. The berries on it were fresh though! The lobster bisque was also good. My husband said his duck was also decent but the veggies on the side were basically raw (not sure if that's on purpose but the sides were rock hard potatoes & peas). I have been to the restaurant a few times but last night (for my birthday) did the chef's table. Phenomenal from the food (caviar, pheasant, lamb, dessert) to staff and the ambiance it was a 10 star night. The experience is what I will remember for the rest of my life. They even put hip hop music on for me. I think this 71 year old shocked them. My nephew and I had the time of our life. I cannot say enough about Epic and will do the chef table again. During my very first visit to Columbus, I wanted to make it memorable. I researched some restaurants online and found Jamie's Epic restaurant! I called and made a reservation for 5:00pm the same day. I ordered from the Pre-Fixe Menu which included three courses. I started with the Compressed Watermelon Salad, followed by the Braised Beef Short Ribs and topped everything off with their Chocolate Opera Cake. The attention to detail that went into everything was obvious. They care about the quality of their food and did an outstanding job putting it all together. Of note, I also ordered their Preface Sampler which included Bacon and Eggs with Ginger Ketchup, Tempura Gouda, Shrimp Lumpia, and the Tuna Tacos. My mouth is watering right now as I remember how amazing all of it was. Oh, they also provided delicious baguettes with various butters and an olive tapenade. My favorite with all of this was their Tomato Jam...It was AMAZING. From my experience making a reservation, to the service I received in the dining room, to the quality and presentation of the food, I had a marvelous experience. They even invited me on a kitchen tour! Which I totally did and loved. Epic was truly epic. They deserve the 4 diamond rating that they have with AAA. Great work Jamie and all of your staff. I grew up in the South. The Deep South. I left when I was a young man. Now, I visit episodically. And when I visit I often feel like a person venturing into a museum - inquisitive, but detached. However, my last couple of trips to the South have shown me a new side to my home. There is a crazy rich culture of food evolving in the darnedest of places. Columbus, GA and Epic Restaurant epitomizes this fantastic foodie culture. I so enjoyed my meal. I sat at the bar and swilled some great wine with a nice assortment of small plates - I sort of made my own tasting menu - and a relaxed atmosphere. It was awesome! I can't speak highly enough for what the owners, chef and team and front end of the house are doing with their amazing corner of the world. My husband and I were so happy when we found this gem in the downtown area of Columbus Georgia. Came here for dinner with my husband while visiting the area, and we were pleasantly surprised at how nice the interior was. We parked a little far away and walked, but they had parking spaces next to the restaurant. We made a reservation for weekday dinner, and there was not too many customers yet for early dinner around 5:30. Did the course menu, and I have to say the shrimp and grits, foie gras with bacon, dessert menu and everything was fantastic. We went to this place for my birthday and OMG, what an experience! Food was delicious and we asked for the server to pair drinks with each course for us, and he did an excellent job!! We also asked if we can split the drinks instead of 1 per person so we wouldn't get too tipsy since we have an infant to care for at home, and they provided the perfect amount of drinks for us. We half expected a ridiculous bill since we weren't choosing the alcohol ourselves, but it was incredibly reasonable for a high-end dining experience. It was also right next to the river which was a beautiful spot for some after-dinner pics. Husband and I visited on our 1 year anniversary. I choose this spot out of all the other ones that were located in Uptown Columbus area because by Yelp pictures, it reminded me of the restaurants back home and it wasn't Southern food. So far, being in Columbus, I have not found ONE restaurant that I liked so it was a big deal. We didn't even know this place was a four diamond restaurant until we saw the award on their wall. The service was amazing and I even told them I am 20 wks pregnant so they know I can't have certain things and they took care of that in every dish. The bartender even made me a non alcoholic beverage which was surprisingly good! I drank all of it! They give you bread and butter while you wait which was good, we wanted to eat more but had to tell ourselves to put it down so we can finish our main entrees. My hubby and I shared the butternut squash soup which was so good! My hubby ordered their lamb dish and I ordered the wagyu short ribs. For our anniversary dessert we chose the caramel apple cheesecake (this was the best part). Overall, I thought the food was pretty good for being a four diamond because we've been to places where they are four diamond and the outcome wasn't that great but this place was actually really good.
