My husband and I were able to find one of their popup locations (this particular day it was at The Shanty in Encinitas) when my craving struck. Service was quick, food was delicious as always, and worth every cent (I got three meals out of one cheesesteak, it's HUGE). The ONLY thing I would suggest is adding Au jus back to your menu. If you are looking for a Philly cheesesteak.. this pop up is legit!! They are usually at the Fall Brewing off Miramar on Tuesdays but we missed it so we went to the pop up on Friday at the Fall Brewing in North Park (since we were in the area that evening). This place is very good and all the guys were super friendly. The Philly cheesesteak was so good. The sandwich came out super hot and was filled with so much meet and the combo of the onions, cheese and bell peppers (even though I'm not a big fan of them) was so tasty. It also comes with mushrooms (which I love) but we were sharing and he doesn't like mushrooms so we opted out of them. The sandwich is pretty big, I only ate a quarter of it and was full! I honestly didn't much care for the Cheesesteak, finding the Chipotle Avocado Beef way more enticing alongside their well-known Super 3-Way Beef sandwich, but the dude somehow convinced us in our ultra hungry states that we didn't want the Chipotle Avocado Beef, that their "well-known" Cheesesteak was a must instead. Again, super hungry, so didn't argue, but was confuzzed as to why he was trying to talk us out of something I wanted in spite of its similarities to the 3-way beef sandwich (his other reason for steering us towards to the Cheesesteak huh?). Said Cheesesteak with the works (cheese, onions, pepper and mushrooms), while piping hot and gigantic, was bland and the bread a little crusty/ old. The 3-way beef, while the meat was not exactly warmed up enough on the grill, was actually super delicious. Not nearly as delicious as a famed beef sandwich from a shop in PB, but still good-ish. The onion bun was much preferred to the crusty cheesesteak bread too. All sandwiches are bound to get you sloppy and full with such a generous protein portion. You will not leave hungry. As someone who grew up in Massachusetts, I know exactly what a real North Shore roast beef is supposed to taste like. I've had all the local debates, and I'll say this with my whole chest: Wicked Rare Beefs has the best roast beef in San Diego. I'll argue with anyone who tries to tell me Big Jim's is better. The attention to detail is what makes it special. The bread is delivered fresh every single day, and the sauce is shipped in from Massachusetts, so it tastes exactly the way it should. One bite and you're transported straight back to the North Shore. It's absolute perfection. And don't sleep on the cheesesteak. It is massive, loaded with meat and cheese, and somehow still perfectly balanced. I can never finish the whole thing, and I'm not complaining. It's messy, cheesy, and everything a great cheesesteak should be. I seriously cannot rave enough about this place. I only hope they eventually open a brick and mortar because they deserve it. My husband saw a Facebook reel about this pop up and we had to find and try them out. I'm so glad we did! The food was amazing! The portion sizes were huge and I definitely had half of my sandwich for dinner later. While pricy rhe surf and turf was absolutely worth it. My dad knows good food, especially meat and all things new-England cuisine since he grew up there, so I should have known when he was raving about Wicked Rare Beefs that it wouldn't disappoint. He asked my carnivore partner and I to meet him for dinner at the WRB pop-up at Fall Brewing Co. in Miramar so we could experience it ourselves. I have never been a roast beef or cheesesteak fan, I always found them fatty, chewy, and greasy with the meat being either too salty or bland, and just generally feeling yucky after eating one, so I never saw myself going out of my way for one. I did not understand what the hype could possibly be, but thought, okay Dad, if you say so. We got to the brewery and out front was a modest pop-up tent with the owner Brian himself at the grill alongside some support staff. We ordered the Cheesesteak with the works, the Supreme 3-way, and the Lobster Roll to share. Wow was I shocked when I opened the boxes and laid my eyes on the massive, steaming sandwiches in front of me. I had dig into the cheesesteak first because the scent was calling me. The grilled mushrooms and onions were a game-changer. Loved how all of the flavors interacted - I almost burned my mouth because I couldn't put it down to wait for it cool off. The Supreme 3-Way was absolutely LOADED with layers of rare and finely sliced beef and nice and saucy. The toasted buns were golden and fluffy. It had the softest roast beef texture I've ever tried. For me, this one wins texture, but the flavor of the cheesesteak was unmatched. My partner is not a mushroom fan and we didn't notice when we ordered that they come on the cheesesteak, so he wasn't into it- more for me!!! He loved the 3-way though and was happy to finish it. The lobster roll was great and love that they have an option and variety for the seafood lovers and pescatarians, but it wasn't stand-out for me like the other items. What I find so extraordinary is how tender the meat is and how it doesn't get chewy, or gristly. While there's no lying that this IS heavy food, I didn't feel sluggish or stuffed after like I'd expect and I'm willing to bet it's because of the fresh, high-quality ingredients that go into everything. I was happy to meet the passionate, confident, and proud business owner behind it all, Brian. He never refrigerates the meat after cooking - that's the key to the texture he says! It's clear even from a brief interaction that he has found his way to serve something unique to the community and put smiles on faces doing what he loves! How do you improve upon perfection? By expanding the venues, expanding the selection and refreshing the menu. Well, that's what's happened with Wicked Rare Beefs. From the various postings on social media, WRB is now at other area brewery locations on alternate days and has expanded its presence at Fall Brewing to both Tuesdays and Fridays. Additionally, the menu offering now includes incredible lobster rolls, traditional east coast style. The French Dip sandwich offering has been retired and in addition to the fantastic "3-way Beef" roast beef sandwich and the superstar Philly Cheesesteak sandwich, a new cheesesteak variant has been added that includes home made marinara sauce. So it's a 4 sandwich lineup now and each provides a distinctive taste for the discerning palate. I have been awaiting the debut of the lobster roll ever since I heard rumors that it was in the works. Well, I have now experienced something unmatched in SoCal. This is a massive portion of the most tender, fresh tasting, delicate claw meat served on the right butter toasted roll. All freshly made to order. I don't know how Brian pulled this off. I've never had such perfect lobster that isn't fishy smelling or tough, having connective tissue or fillers in it. This has only the aroma of the surf. I can't describe it, but once you experience it, you'll know exactly what I mean. It's much like fresh local uni versus that nasty old stuff from Japan in the wooden boxes (which likely originated here, but degraded being shipped and processed in Japan and shipped back to the US). The roll is a simple thing, take the highest quality chilled lobster claw meat, add just a touch of mayo and put it in a warm, freshly toasted and buttered brioche bun. Simple, yet nobody here can pull it off except WRB. Now, perfection doesn't come cheap, but sometimes you just have to indulge in something so wonderful and give up on a couple Starbucks. Follow them on Facebook or Instagram to learn when and where their canopy will be set up. The signature item was a New England style roast beef sandwich. The other offering on the menu was a Cheesesteak sandwich with the works. Both products used slow roasted beef that was thinly cut with a deli slicer and stacked onto a respective bun. The Super 3-Way was the name of the of the roast beef sandwich. It paid homage to the North Shore classic with the three components of White American Cheese, mayonnaise, and James River BBQ Sauce. A butter griddled onion bun sourced from Bread & Cie was the vehicle for the meat and toppings. The sauce was sweet and tangy while the cheese and mayo provided more richness. The price and quality were similar to the roast beef sandwich from a brick and mortar shop closer to my residence. We were looking for a burger place on yelp, and Wicked Rare Beef came up as an option. It's currently located on the patio of Fall Brewing (formerly Saint Archer if you've been around long enough). We decided to stop by on a Friday night around 6pm. The brewery was fairly busy but there was no wait to order food. Boyfriend and I decided to split the Super 3 Way Beef to start and hang out at the brewery for a drink. Our sandwich was ready by the time we decided and ordered our beers. The sandwich was smaller than expected.. definitely not really an item to be split into 2. However, the meat was super tender and the bun paired well with the meat and sauces. Could have done with a little more sauce. We gave it 4/5. Still hungry, we decided to order another item to split and tried Philly cheesesteak sandwich. The grill was backed up at bit and was estimated to take 15-20 minutes. We were fine with that since we were hanging out. Food was ready as promised, super fresh and hot. Both of us felt the sandwich was tasty-hot melted cheese with plenty of meat, with bell peppers, onions, and mushrooms topped off. However it not compare to the first item, so we have it a 3/5. We rank Big Jim's in PB higher than Wicked for their roast beef sandwich. But for something much more local and accessible in Mira Mesa, we'd come back for the Super 3 Way Beef again. read more
