I do not know why The Butcher N Cheese did not show up on the Top Burger restaurant lists that I followed during my tour of top burgers in San Diego. It definitely belongs on some sort of list because I really enjoyed the food here! - Herbed garlic fries (+$3.50 when substituting for regular fries in the burger combos): Must order! I wish I had ordered the full-size $9.99 option. The garlic tasted like freshly minced garlic (sometimes garlic fries are just the pre-minced garlic that don't seem to confer a real garlic flavor to the dish). It paired so well with the wasabi mayo, which had just the right amount of wasabi heat. The fries were perfectly fried and crisp. - Bourbon Burger ($15.99): I preferred this over the smash burger (my partner preferred the smash burger) because I felt like there was more sauce (the bourbon mayo) & I really enjoy a saucey burger. It did not taste spicy at all to me, and I am generally someone who does not tolerate even the level of spice in hot cheetos. Comes with a side of fries (or salad, but why??). - Bacon onion jam smash burger ($17.50): I didn't taste as much "char" as I usually want out of a smash burger. I also wish that there was more garlic aioli incorporated because the burger seemed a bit dryer than expected. Really good hole in the wall located in a strip center near a movie theater. After seeing really good reviews on yelp, and since we were in the mood for a tasty burger, we tried this place. Glad we did. Their server was lovely and knowledgeable and even recommended a few different options since we hadn't been here before. Since we had our four legged friend with us we sat outside and enjoyed their bacon jam double smashed burger with arugula and garlic aioli. WOW. They normally come medium well but we asked for them to be medium. The burgers were delicious. Messy and flavorful. Mine came with their house salad and hubby had the gf bun and the fries. I loved that the Bacon Onion Jam Smash burger is still offered! So delicious. I was worried that it would go away but saw the poster that they still offer it. During our visit today my husband had their limited time offer of the buffalo chicken sandwich for $7.99 with a canned soda. He said the burger was good. We really enjoy the food and service here. It's pretty hot inside temperature wise in the summer so if you can grab an outside table it's a little better. The employees are really putting up with a lot inside the restaurant with the heat yet they are really nice and take the service to the next level. Note: The bathrooms are around the corner from the store front and you will need a key code from a server. Seating outside has umbrellas for shade and oftentimes there is a nice breeze which is pretty dang amazing. This location is in the middle of everything. You can grab lunch, go see a movie adjust a few doors down and after the movie there is an awesome ice cream shop in the same area. Our table had the Philly cheese steak sandwich, Good Ole Burger, the Hombre and The Great Patty Melt. Most of us opted for the sweet potato fries for a little extra spend. It was all perfect! Pricing is great for the amount of the food and the perfection of the presentations. In my pics the Hombre burger is cut in half by me to show the perfectly prepared patty. I was looking for a burger joint for my son and I to have dinner. I didn't want to spend a fortune. I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed, but a 1/3 pound burger can now be in the range of $20 and your lucky if it comes with fries. Well, that is not the case here. For around $12-$14 you can get a 1/3 pound burger and fries. I'm appreciate that it's Butcher N Cheese is still making a week-day night out dinner still affordable. When we arrived we were greeted within a few seconds and asked if we were dining in or take out, we said dining in and we were given a table. My son ordered the Good Ol' Burger, with just meat and cheese. I ordered the the Roadhouse. Both burgers came out within about 10 minutes. The patty itself was a good size, flavorful and juicy. My son ate almost all of his meal. The egg on my burger was a little under cooked, but honestly, I prefer that than a over easy that is over cooked where the whites are crunchy. It was a good messy burger. I'm a big eater and I could not finish my fries and had a few bites of burger left. Overall it was a good burger and I'd definitely eat here again. The service was great. An excellent local burger joint that fills a great need in a community lacking such. It's a cute looking restaurant that tries to look like a local bar/restaurant on the inside and creates some nice ambiance. The burgers are quite good, not the best in San Diego but definitely worth the price and guaranteed to satisfy. I had the Bison burger and my mom had a patty melt; both were tender, juicy and flavorful with good toppings and especially good bread. Kudos for them using bread from the nearby Ariely bakery which is an excellent location versus buying something from a Sisco. Their bread takes what's a good burger and makes it great. They also make good fries, especially crispy sweet potato fries which is hard to come by. I love how many options they have including chicken, turkey, lamb and bison, makes them very unique. Maybe my only critique is their house salad dressing wasn't that good and I wish they'd have more options available but that's a pretty minimal complaint. If you're coming out of the nearby theater or need a good burger in the location, definitely worth visiting. read more

We got into town later than we had planned. We were actually going to Isa.Bella Pizza, Pasta, Craft Beer next door. We were told to pick a table and they'd be right with us. We saw quite a few people ordering to go orders as well as phone in orders. For a small family owned place, they offer quite the wide variety menu items. They offer grass-fed beef patties, bison, lamb, wild turkey, chicken, and veggie, and beyond burgers as well. They offer a variety of different salads. They also have mac n cheese, fries, sweet potato fries, tater tots, and crispy onion rings. They also have steaks, fried crab cakes, fish and chips, and more. There's kid's menu, too. Something for everyone. We had the steak dinner. It was delicious! I recommend Checking out this company's menu ahead of time, because you'll need to walk up to the counter and place your order , but there's not a lot of room to stand inside and look at the menu. This is a good place for small families with kids and it has outdoor seating so you can bring your dog as long as you have somebody go to the counter to order. I wouldn't recommend this for large parties just because there isn't a ton of seating except for small round tables outside. There are a ton of Burger and other options that left my mouth both wandering and my brain puzzled. After a few minutes of hungry frustration I finally decided on the bourbon Burger which was A mildly spicy bourbon sauce onion ring bacon cheeseburger. I decided to get a side salad instead of fries. The Salad came with some sort of yogurt dressing which tasted like a mild flavored tzatziki . Unfortunately the dressing wasn't a hit but the salad itself was full of fresh and delicious ingredients. The Burger was so big I had to cut it in half and use 3 napkins just to eat my 1st half. After sipping on a delicious and refreshing IPA with my Burger I tapped out after the 1st half. My husband happily enjoyed my leftovers when I got home. I don't typically go out for expensive burgers, You'll usually find me at some drive thru Burger place but it's really nice to appreciate a well crafted and delicious Burger every once in a while. read more

The salad dressing is more of a thick aioli that may need to be diluted 1:1 v/v with water, but it was tasty nonetheless. The chicken was absolutely phenomenal! A great burger - there are plenty of other places that are the whole package. We sat outside where they had patio heaters. It was plenty warm for a 59F evening. There are a number of restaurants, ice cream and a movie theater all in the same plaza. Everything you need for a date night! There's a large parking lot with plenty of spots. The mozzarella sticks were so good they didn't need to be dipped in sauce, but the cheese inside wasn't fully melted which was disappointing. The Butcher N Cheese took over for Extreme Pizza at this cluster of restaurants in the Clairemont Town Square shopping plaza. So much has changed as the BBQ, Italian, pizza, and sushi spots have all disappeared and been replaced with another entity or a vacant suite. There was roughly an equal number of seats inside as well outside on the sidewalk patio like before. You grab a menu, take a seat, and the staff will provide table service. At the time of my visit, eleven different types of burgers were available along with four salads, two hot dogs, a fried crab cake, a cheese board, fish and chips, and other small plates. I decided on the Grassland Bison Burger cooked medium rare which came with a side of french fries. The grass-fed bison patty was dressed with red cabbage slaw, American and cheddar cheeses, and a house made dijon-naise. The quality of the burger was good, but I wouldn't say it was memorable. The plate could have used some more fries to back up the price tag. I gave my dining experience at The Butcher N Cheese a 3.5 star rating and rounded up because the service was very good. read more
