Meh, it's a hot dog. The fries were pretty good though. For a place that is supposed to be all about the 'dogs, they were remarkably average. The corn dogs, normally a favorite of mine, were... not amazing. Not terrible, but, as my husband put it: "I've had worse, but I was usually drunk when I did." Oh, and the strawberry lemonade is neither lemonade or strawberry. It tastes like Hi-C. The staff is fine, no problems. The ambiance? It's a cheap fast-food place with a sticky floor. read more

We almost couldn't believe we saw der Wienerschnitzel this far East on the map! Just had to make the detour to come by on the way home and we're so glad we did. Look, this is glorified hot dogs and junk food at their best -so come in expecting that. The service was outstanding. We were greeted immediately and they were patient as we perused the menu. The woman at the counter was pleasant and made sure she got everything in our complicated order read back to us. She even brought the drinks/float and then our order out to us when it was ready. I didn't remember that being a thing when I visited other locations farther West. Plan for it to be busy around lunch. We got there at 11 and it was dead quiet. Nice little place to get hot dogs that has been around for quite a while. Inside was clean and staff was friendly. After you place your order and pay drinks are self serve. Pick any seat and they bring out your food. Place is small and cozy with about 12 tables inside. If you don't want to go inside there is a drive thru if your in a hurry. There seem to be several specials to choose from and they even have ice cream. read more

Having tasted some very exceptional hotdogs and brats around Chicago I wasn't sure I would be too impressed with this place. I can safely say I was quite surprised with the quality and flavor. Certainly these are "fast-food", but I enjoyed them. I had the bacon street dog (basically a hot dog with bacon on it) and the October fest brat with onion/mustard. If you happen to be in the area and want a decent dog or brat ( or chili fries - they have an impressive selection of chili fry options) then be sure to check this place out. Cheers! read more

I had the Chicago Dog combo and the wife had the Chili Cheese Dog combo. Both were really good BUT I forgot to order the pretzel buns! We have to go back and see if I can get the order right next time. The service was fast and the staff friendly. Not a whole lot of seating inside and didn't notice if there was outside seating. The local branch in Champaign is dreadful. I got the two chili dog special for $7.95, but the actual price was more than $11.00...for HOT DOGS! The dogs came wrapped so tightly in cheap paper that the buns were saturated with greasy chili. Once unwrapped they were next to impossible to eat, and not just because they tasted so bad. The chili was borderline beyond its expiration date, tasted sour. The only positive was that the staff is pleasant enough, but I did not linger. I gave up on my second hotdog and tossed it in the trash. read more

I live a good 10/15 minutes out of town, but whenever im close by I always have to stop by. I decided to go and order a bacon ranch chili cheese fry. Let me tell you, this is the best one they offer. The ranch mixes so well with the chili. Its like heaven. Food was tasty, but the drinks are a little expensive... wish they were cheaper! Staff is super friendly. I see the same guy with the tattoos there whenever I go and had a nice chat with him. I think his name is Jacob. Really friendly staff. Restaurant was clean. Food was quick, and tasted amazing. I don't drive into Champaign often, but this was one of those times. It was the day of my wedding and I was dropping my dogs off at a kennel on the west side of town, and I pulled into the drive-thru at Weinerschnitzel because it was close and on my way back home. The guy who gave me my food made some nice small talk with me and I mentioned I was getting married that day. He gave me some extra food for free and congratulated me. Perfect spot to go if you are short on time and money. Their chilli cheese dogs are a bit messy, but always cooked great! I've also had their corn dogs and again, was not disappointed. I've had good and bad service from Tastee Freez (their new name) over the years. The last visit bummed me out. They have summer drinks each season, offered for a limited time, that are usually terrific. I recently tried the pineapple lemonade. Wow. It was terrific. So, one Saturday, my parents and I are out and wanted a drink. We were no where near Tastee Freez, but I suggested we drive there for drinks. Three large drinks (over $7) and we made our way up the street to another store. I took a sip of my drink and it was "off". Open the lid and see pineapple floating in water.... there was no lemonade syrup in my cup. Yuck! Same with my moms drink. We return after we go into the store we are at. I take the drinks to the counter and ask for a refund. The manager is a jerk about it stating he could give us new drinks. They realized (while we were gone) the syrup had run out and had changed it. Honestly we wanted our money back as we had a horrible taste in our mouths from the icky pineapple water; another drink no longer sounded appetizing. And why didn't the young woman in the drive thru NOT notice there was no lemonade before serving us? Finally got the refund, but he put it in as regular lemonade, not the more expensive pineapple lemonade. So, we drove out of our way to begin with, had to return (again out of our way!), and we are gipped on the refund. Wanna guess when I'll return? Why do businesses hire managers who treat their customers like crap? read more

Some days nothing hits the spot like good old junk food. Today my meal consisted of an all beef dog with pastrami and two chili cheese dogs. Im not on this side of town so much now days, so the feeling was like visiting a dear old friend. I definitely noticed a price increase over the old days, but hey, they have to make a profit to stay open, besides they do often or always have special offers. Everything was fast, hot, correct, and better than you might expect for any restaurant with a drive through attached. The dining area was cleaner than most fast food offerings as well.
