A real farm market off the beaten path on the way to Door County. Most the stuff you buy was made or grown here... which is much different than the more popular road side markets to the north. My number one reason to come here is the Celery Pickles. Just one of many types of pickles offered, You can pick your own favorite... they have samples! Reason two... date bars! They have a number of different homemade bakery choices. I love the date bars... they taste just like my grandma used to make! Reason three.... Lefse (Pronounced lef-sa). This Norwegian flat bread is once again "just like my grandma used to make". Can't find it too many places to buy good lefse anymore because most of the old Norwegian's who made it are too old or dead. Wienke's is located right next to a cheese factory so you can also get your fresh Wisconsin cheese all in you stop. read more

This is my first time visiting this market in the middle of country Farms. I was surprised when I pulled up. There was a tour bus. The market is smaller than I imagined, but it was stacked with lots of goodies. There were samples throughout and I really enjoyed the tart cherry juice and picked up a bottle to take home. They also had blue Amish popcorn, which is a treat. I was surprised there weren't any regular restrooms but just a portable outside which an employee told me even they must use. No thank you. I guess it's too early for fresh corn even though it was sold at the market it was not from Wisconsin because it is too early. So that was a little disappointing, thinking I was getting fresh corn. read more

Stopping at Wienke's market is a must while traveling through Algoma, whether it be spring, summer fall, or winter. They have a large selection of canned goods, baked goods, and souvenirs, and I'm sure in the summer they are stocked to the gills with fresh produce. Tiny little local farm produce market in Algoma.. Stopped here on my way back from Door County and we purchased their Strawberry (no Sugar) jam and we loved it.. Never been here before so just wanted to try something.. they have a nice collection of jams (with and without sugar) and huge variety - black berry, strawberry, mixed fruits, etc. They also have a nice wine collection along with meat and a good selection of fresh pies.. Alright, alright, I admit it. I moved a jar of pickles from Chicago to St. Louis with us. I couldn't stand to leave that poor jar of Wienke's Market Celery Dill Spears languishing in the corner of our apartment fridge, especially because we'd never even opened it (even after a year of having it! Yeah, that's a whole other confession.). So I packed it up with the rest of our crap and moved it into its new St. Louis refrigerator. Luckily for me, I decided to finally open the jar and, lo and behold, the spears were STILL GOOD! Will the wonders of vinegar never cease? Justin and I took a weekend trip to Door County, Wisconsin in the Fall of '06. Wienke's Market lured us to stop with their wide selection of pumpkins, squashes and crazy gourds and with the promise of homemade treats inside the barn. I got a little overzealous with the gourds and bought two bags full of the odd-shaped, colorful guys for cheeeeap. Luckily, we exercised a bit of restraint with the food inside and made it outta there with only some dried Door County cherries and the infamous jar of pickles (although I begged and begged for some of the sauerkraut, Justin wasn't havin' it). This family farm became a market in 1982 and they sell their goods year-round and online. In addition to the dried fruits and homemade pickles, they've got jams, jellies, relishes, salsas, fudge, honey, Norwegian lefse, pies and a bunch of other goods to fill you up. Wienke's also has a selection of fruits and vegetables for sale, but they were looking pretty sad when we were there that late in the season. The homemade items are truly where it's at at Wienke's. So. I held on to those pickles for well over a year, relocated them to another state and then finally devoured them all in about a week. You've got a good thing goin', Wienke's. Here's an unscientific tip. When visiting an area that's popular with tourists try a county highway. In this case Wienke's Market on County Rd. S is a perfect find. With a gravel and grass parking lot and picnic tables outside it's quiet friendly place for a grab lunch. Homemade style pickles, jams, syrup as well as fudge line the insides. There are more unique finds if you check carefully and have a credit card with some room to explore. read more

A nice farm market with a great selection of local products. The homemade canned goods are of top quality. There was a small selection of fresh produce, but in all fairness this is winter. I imagine this will change come summer. Just down the road from Renard's, so if you stop at one you may as well stop at the other. read more

I love their pickles!!! The picante hot dill with habanero are AMAZING. Perfect amount of heat and a good crunch. I order them online and have them shipped. Fast shipping and great packaging. I did have an incident when one of the jars broke upon delivery. I called them about the jar and was asked if it would be okay to have a jar sent after the holidays. I can't say enough good things about Wienke's products. I'd seen them in an expensive grocery store in Milwaukee and resisted buying them due to price. When visiting the market, however, I scooped up boxes of goodies! Gooseberry jam, corn relish, strawberry rhubarb jam, sauerkraut... All delicious and incredibly well-crafted! The store owners treated me like family and were happy that I was excited to finally see their home base. Tip: If you can't make it to Algoma, Woodman's has their products at fair prices. read more
