Our family favorite. Seen this place from 30 years ago and every year since. The menu is basic American fare . Food is good, hours are wonky but we don't complain, ambiance is on the most beautiful place with fast efficient service. I remember as a kid the game room and bar that stuck out taking up the entire restaurant. Then our distant cousin bought it, reconstructed the inside and began selling pizza but closed then after and sold to someone who named it "the Tin plate" (didn't last long at all lol..) and now the current owners - which is a perfect fit. We were forewarned by the photocopied note on the table: they have a small kitchen and their food may take awhile. That's okay, we said to each other, we'll just enjoy our beer and be patient. Well, it turns out there is a limit on our patience. After an hour (during which the waitress had not returned), we asked how much longer the fish fry would take, and were told at least 30 minutes more. We paid for the beer and left, and went to another place with an excellent fish fry served fresh within 15 minutes. Believe the warning in the note. read more

Had to check out this Yelp favorite for their Friday Night Fish Fry. So glad that I did! It's about 10 miles or so outside of Sturgeon Bay, but well worth the trip. Ordered 1 Walleye dinner & 1 Perch dinner so that the two of us could sample both varieties. Both were pan fried to perfection. Lightly coated with a tasty seasoning that enhanced rather than overpowered these delicate fish. Large portions which we happily devoured. Options for indoor or outdoor dining. read more

Such a cool venue and tasty food! We really loved the vibe and that it was a very cool Log cabin restaurant close to the cave point park! We had pretty genuine service and really enjoyed how quick everything was ready. Definatly a reccomend spot as they have nice outdoor seating too if it's warm out! I'm so glad to see the Hitching Post back in biz!!!!! We came in Friday night, so glad to see the place packed! We actually got seated right away too. I wish there hadn't been a limited menu tonight instead of the full menu. I'm not a whitefish person and there wasn't perch which is customary in a Door County fish fry. My husband gets a burger every time we're out and there wasn't a burger option, which is surprising. We ended up with the shrimp tacos. They were good but the coleslaw had little flavor, tasted like just plain ol sour cream and celery seed or something. The staff was very nice. The prices are a smidge steep. For two shrimp tacos (total of 4 shrimp) it was $14.00 with fries. You can get a big shrimp basket at a bar down the road for like $9....so, there's that lol. I was so excited to see online that the burger is named "The Huey." If you're not a local, you won't understand, but I'm sure if you'd ask they'd tell you the history behind that. :) I'm just so glad they're open and It's not some fricken hippie joint like it was! This log cabin in the woods should not be missed. Their dining room is beautiful, but the perfect summer weather drew us to their quiet patio. We enjoyed the Piggy Plus On a Bun and a Cuban sandwich. Both provided balanced flavors and a satisfying meal. Our compliments to the chef! read more

Truly one of the worst fish fries I've ever had + some of the worst bar/restaurant service. It's nowhere close to the Hitching Post in its Heuy hay-day.... For $21 you get five or so pale, incredibly greasy perch filets (they were so poorly fried, the breading wasn't even sticking to the fish), half slice of rye bread, a small handful of fries, and a 1/4 cup of slaw that was swimming in dressing. The walleye was the same for $17. If you're looking for a good fish fry, don't come here. read more

This place is a CLASSIC. It is your quintessential Door County bar that is also kid-friendly (without being overbearing) and the food is really great. They also have live music every once in a while for all you music lovers. The Mexican wrap is so freaking yummy and they have a delicious grilled chicken sandwich that ISN'T DRY (like almost every other chicken sandwich!). Yes, it's slightly off the beaten path, but the area is gorgeous and worth the exploration. Plus, Whitefish Dunes and Cave Point county park (both iconic tourist attractions in Door County) are only a 5-10 min drive from HP. Truly can't recommend this place enough. read more

This is a great spot to stop and grab lunch. We visited after spending the morning at Cave Point. They had a nice lunch menu, the service was friendly, and the food was good. Some things came out right away but our smoothie, while delish, took a really long time to get. It was a little expensive so that's why I docked a star.
