Small park. Two lighted tennis courts are available. Nice little playground with picnic tables.

It's essentially a big dirt field with a hose in the back and some benches. A friend and I just needed someplace to let our dogs get out and run around, so this did the job on that particular day. There was no one there when we got there, and it never got too crowded. Different people from the neighborhood came and went, and the dogs enjoyed themselves. There is seating all throughout the park, which is nice. Plenty of shade as well. The water bowl/area in the back was pretty gross - we just used our own.

There is a hose and buckets for dogs to drink out of, however it's a mud pit and there were lots of dogs peeing in the water and buckets. Benches in the shade. One area for all dogs, no small and large separation. I supposed you can wash your dog where the hose and water buckets are, but your dog would have to walk back through the dirt to get to to the entrance/exit gate. Lots of street parking, but look out for NO PARKING signs on the street. Met some lovey dog owners and their dogs today but I doubt I'll be back with my pup. There are much better dog parks in the city.

Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing from start to finish. We visited a few days prior to ask questions and were met by a very unwelcoming and unprofessional manager. I initially gave him the benefit of the doubt, assuming he was just having a bad day. However, on the actual day of our paid reservation, he displayed the same dismissive and unpleasant attitude. For $100 per hour, you would expect a decent level of service or at least basic accommodations but this facility provides nothing beyond the space itself. There were no basketballs available, no equipment, and no effort to prepare the court. I had to ask the manager just to set up the hoops for our scheduled 2:00 PM time slot. To make matters worse, they do not offer food during weekdays and also prohibit bringing food inside. This makes it extremely inconvenient, especially for events like birthday parties where food is essential. Overall, the lack of customer service, poor communication, and minimal value for the price made this a frustrating experience. I would not recommend this facility for events or celebrations unless significant improvements are made in both service and overall offerings

It was a beautiful day out. Got there in the early afternoon. There were some people taking pics, but no one playing basketball. There were seats and benches to take breaks on and some areas that had shade. The court had zero shade so we were hot out there; it was mid-October! More like "Hotober" . One thing that made me sad was all the trash on the ground. So much littering in such a beautiful space. My Dad went around and picked up ALL the trash. Wish people would take care of our City. Overall had such a great time and made memories for a lifetime. I love my City!

Because the tall walls can help users bounce the balls wherever they want it to be. This is not a scientific experiment or school project. But it is symmetrically cute. I can't put my hands on the Root Memorial Square. I stared at the court as a young man practicing his kicks on a soccer ball against one side of wall. Then, he switched to be another person to defend his imaginary goal. I was just passing by on the way to Discovery Green. I purposely returned the same way to see the court again. This time is a young couple playing basketball tossing game with a kid. Doesn't matter how the ball bounce to, it always bounces back to the man how bounced the ball in the first place. Now, I wonder. Would that be another use, like filled with water to be a pool, ping pong game, tennis ball dodge game, remote control car racing or just stay there to be a square. The Root Memorial Square.

It is a hive of activity in the late afternoon and evenings when people are out playing soccer, basketball and running on the track. Older residents of Gulfton, both men and women, walk the park's single trail for exercise. Lots of children can be found at the playground and there are several Pokemon Stops around the recreation building. During pre-pandemic times there would be Zumba at the Rec Center and homely Hispanic vendors at the parking lot selling snacks and candy out of their vans. What it is not: not much nature. This park is several large blocks of grass with trees lining the walking trails rather than nature preserve. With that said, the park is large and a breath of fresh air for the residents of Gulfton, many of whom live packed in the large apartment complexes around the park. It is not really a picnic spot as majority of the free space is taken up by the soccer teams, so unless you picnic near the kids' playground, you are in danger of a stray soccer ball. This park is not "scenic" but it serves an important need in the local community. Trash collection and cleaning of the park can always be improved. Safety: the park seems quite safe, even in the evenings due to the popularity of the park and large number of people present. The blue-collar residents of Gulfton do not tolerate homeless people asking for handouts, particularly when their own children frequent this park, and I never saw any homeless people or thugs on the weekday evenings when I would come to this park.
