Came here on a Saturday evening for a birthday party. We had four lanes booked out and I'd recommend a maximum of six players per lane, although they do support more than that. Rental shoes are quite stretched out here. I actually sized down nearly 2 full sizes (usually wear a 7.5, ended up using 6's) to fit snugly. The bowling balls are set up from ~8lbs to ~15lbs in order. I couldn't really tell, but it seemed like the smaller balls also tended to have smaller finger holes on average. There are some "game" options to bowl with that ultimately boil down to 1 bowl x 5 frames, 2 bowls x 5 frames, and 2 bowls x 10 frames. Kids may enjoy the Angry Birds game, which is 2 bowls x 5 frames but if you hit all of the birds, you'll effectively get a "strike" (at least, I think that's how it works). For serious bowlers, I'd suggest the "Pro Stats" setup which will give you mph, % of strikes, and things like that. You can put in your e-mail to get your scorecard or even set up using an app, which are great modern options. The people who weren't as good bowlers ended up trying to go for high speed bowls toward the end of the night (25.7mph was the winner if you're curious). We had a few incidents where someone bowled during a reset, usually because we were playing a minigame where we expected two rolls but actually ended up being counted as a strike due to whatever game gimmick was going on. During those times, it took the staff about 5-10 minutes to respond and clear the lane. Lane 20 was also really wrong in the sensors. We called it the charity lane because if you guttered a ball, it would give you between 3-6 points randomly. So, not all of the lanes are perfect. There's also a little arcade here, and some coin operated basketball games. Cool that you can order bar food and beer from the attached restaurant. Overall, a generally positive experience with one lane out of four that was a bit glitchy. read more

Much like other alleys you operate the lane yourself. Once you get your shoes you're basically on your own. Sometimes the lane was glitchy. At first, we had the place to ourselves, but by 6:30, it was packed with what seemed like professional bowlers! It's been a hot minute since I've been bowling...maybe 10 years? I basically grew up in a bowling alley as a kid cause my parents were in bowling leagues. I don't really remember what pricing was for bowling cause we usually go to AMF, but this seemed steep. I'm sure the cost would be comparable if divided by a group. There was only two of us, so we got to take our time and fit in 5 games. Short break going to the bar to order drinks. I had the Austin Eastciders pineapple on draft. We took our drinks back to our lane. We didn't try the food since we were going out to dinner after. I love how organized this bowling alley is. There's a closed off bar area for food and drinks, a pro shop, and an arcade area. Restrooms are clean, as well. Bowling balls are organized by weight with the least starting from the left side of the bowling alley. Our lane was glitchy and didn't restart, so we asked to move over to another lane which wasn't an issue. We didn't want to be close to a lane with young teens, no offense. The seating is comfy like booth seating, and the floors are checkered which gave a diner, retro vibe. Much more comfortable than plastic seats at most bowling alleys. I prefer real bowling lanes than synthetic lanes. It was a little distracting when the screens came down that aired the same shows as the TVs and when the lights turned off with colorful lasers flashing on the floor. I follow the lane arrows on where to throw, and I felt like I had to concentrate more. This is an old bowling alley, lots of lanes, nice seating, old system but it works. The mechanism for the scoring was a bit off, sometimes it registered more or less pins than reality. I like that there were auto bumpers for the people or kids that need that and the pins weren't on strings (that is an annoying new feature at some alleys that I don't care for). All the bowling alleys I called either had long wait times or didn't even have any lanes available...so I remembered Del Mar because my previous job hosted an event here. The inside was crowded, a bit dingy, and really difficult to find the right size bowling balls. Because of the crowds, I think they were low on bowling balls and the one I used was too heavy. But, because of the horrendous customer service of ONE person, Theresa Bryant - Director of Operations, I must leave this review and I will never, ever have a party there again. This woman, Theresa Bryant, lies and is a shameful representative of an otherwise very nice, re-vamped old-school bowling alley! At first, Theresa fooled me into thinking she was the nicest in the world! She gave me two quick quotes for our party package; one for two lanes and one for three lanes and said the time and date I needed was available! I told her I had to wait to decide because I still had RSVPs coming in and she said no problem! I was at peace with my choice of Del Mar bowling Lanes for my daughter 17th birthday party! A week before the party, a girl called me to collect the deposit. I told her that I still wasn't sure which package I needed and she said don't worry you will have a third lane if you need it. I asked her how much do I pay for deposit she told me $125 and I paid it promptly over the phone she never said I needed to turn in paperwork or anything like that. A few days later another young lady called again to ask me what kind of pizzas, appetizers and drinks I wanted to pre-order and even what color tablecloth color would I like! I was pleasantly surprised and thought she was very sweet. she gave me some food suggestions and I confirmed everything. I asked again about the optional third lane and she said it won't be a problem to get the third lane if needed. She had it notated. Everything was fine until about 30 minutes before our reservation, my husband, daughter, and a few of our guests, went to check in for the party. I was on my way separately. A few minutes later, my husband called me and told me that they only had two lanes for us. I told him we needed the three lanes after all. I could hear a woman in the background saying that I had only paid the deposit for two lanes. I asked to speak with her, and Teresa proceeded to try and convince me that since I had only paid for two lanes they did not reserve a third lane for me. Even after I had explained to her that I had spoken to a girl twice before to confirm , she did not care. However, she did say that she could offer me a third lane after all, but it wouldn't be together with the other two. I said that is fine! We'll take it! I was happy and thought this was a done deal. A few minutes later I arrived at the bowling alley and when I got to the front desk, my husband was there with Teresa still. He said we only have two lanes. I looked at her and I asked her what about the third lane she JUST said she would give us over the phone?? This is when she proceeded to pretty much call me a liar to my face in front of any people that were around us! Telling me that I had told her that I had NOT wanted the 3rd lane so she gave it away! ABSOLUTELY WRONG! After a huge error on their part, stupid me thought that we had rectified the situation over the phone just minutes before I walked through the door! BUT NO! My expectations were too high...I needed to be brought down to earth and reminded of how ugly people can be through my interaction with Theresa Bryant. This low class bar woman had the audacity to lie to my face and tell me that I had said that I did not want the third lane that I had indeed said that I HAD needed! SHE STILL GAVE IT AWAY! I told her I never said that that it was miscommunication!! She wouldn't budge! She couldn't care less about my party or my guests or the fact that I had reserved this 2 weeks in advance. I'm sorry if she was having a bad day or is having personal problems, but she was so sour and nasty. I really couldn't believe it. I felt HUMILIATED and EMBARRASSED! On top of everything, she never once apologized or did absolutely anything to try and rectify HER mistake. She never offered anything to me in return. NOT ONE REFILL OF THE HANDFUL OF CHIPS THEY CALLED NACHOS or anything! I did not want to ruin my daughter's party so I just took a deep breath, didn't make a scene and I just sucked it up, for my family's sake. I had my niece and nephew with me and decided that bowling was a fun thing to do on one of their days off of school and on a 40 degree day! We were greeted immediately and the lady helping me suggested two packages based on the group size and age of the kiddos. She went ahead and gave me the cheaper package and told me even if the kids bowl slow to let her know and she would extend the time. She kept her word and even gave us more time than needed so we got a whole extra game in after purchasing just another half hour. Since we were there for two hours the kiddos were hollering for food so I got two pitchers of drinks and two pizzas. Pretty decent for bowling alley pizza, and the lady was kind enough to help me with my drinks since I had a toddler with me.
