OK, I admit the only reason Jamie W. and I came in here was that it was the closest place to our hotel listed as one of the top stops on a Palm Canyon Drive stroll. I buy my clothes at UNIQLO and even Costco if I can find my size under the massive piles of the exact same item. You won't find the exact same items here as every shirt and suit looked quite unique. If you're into "Look at me!" fashion with bold colors and even bolder patterns, Wil definitely has it in this retro-modern clothing store dedicated to people who want to make a statement at a Palm Springs cocktail party. Hands down the best clothing store (and designer) in Palm Springs. I have always loved the clothes here and my most recent shopping experience cemented my feelings. The clothes are well made from quality fabrics, have unique details and a flattering fit I rarely find in a button down shirt for men. As someone with quite conservative attire, I love that Wil's clothes are bold and colorful enough to get me out of my drab comfort zone but still allow me to feel like myself in them. Friends and neighbors, I want to talk today about whatever Sorcery it is that's going on over at the Wil Stiles store. Sorcery! Yes, I said sorcery! Here's the deal: Every time I've shopped at Wil Stiles, my first impulse is to dismiss what I see as "too much" -- there's a boldness and an aggressiveness to the clothes Wil carries, especially the fabrics -- but when I actually try that shirt on, or slip into that suit coat, or pull up those pants, I marvel at just how amazingly perfect it is on me. Every. Single. Time. At first, I just thought it was the mirrors at the store -- those mirrors get paid to lie, after all -- but then I noticed how great I looked in puddles, the rearview mirror of my car, even my husband's eyes. Creepy! It must be something woven into the clothes, the extraordinary clothes, which exist on that razor-sharp edge where conservative and libertine mix, dance and somehow balance. It is exhausting to even imagine what being a buyer for this store is like; there is a very specific style and taste to the clothes that Wil Stiles carries, and you won't find it online or anywhere else. They have A lot of merchandise but just not a lot of each piece. I think it's one of each size and that's it. While the men's side is the same old same old gay-male fare, the woman's side is a dream come true for any bold young lady looking to set herself apart from the rest of the crowd. My issue with the men's side isn't the selection per se, (or lack there of), or even the market -savvy price tag. It's more an issue of, how much Fred Perry can the market bare? Wanna be bold? I would suggest carrying American made or Made In The USA clothing. I spend a lot of time in NYC, Beverly Hills, and San Francisco; its not tough. If your going to try and justify a $150.00 gingham shirt with a laurel leaf, lets hope its MADE IN ENGLAND, not Portugal. I returned 2 pairs of reading glasses ("Izipizi's") the same day after realizing at home that I totally overpaid. Stores like Moma NYC, Bloomingdales or online, they are always $40.00 plus tax. "Will Stiles" charged me $60.00 per glasses plus tax. Didn't pay attention when I bought them as I know the store, they have lovely clothes, very Palm Springs vibe, happy colors, great selection. The owners were there, she was not friendly when I bought them and more reserved when I returned them a few hours later (no surprise). I'm all about supporting local business (waited for 3 weeks to buy from the store and not online to support in these crazy times) but this is price gauging. Our Palm Springs getaway featured three straight days of heavy rain, so it was important for us to be able to get out without having to trod for too long in the rain. I was really needing some style-pampering. Fortunately, my fellow Yelpers set me in the proper direction with Wil Stiles, which is a unique clothing store away from the most concentrated part of the shopping on Palm Canyon Drive. Parking was easy right in front of the store. As soon as I entered, I knew this would be a treat. I came in specifically seeking a long-sleeved sweater-type dress, and they had those in abundance. The other factor that I seek in clothes, bright colors with imaginative prints, was also in abundance. I was in dress shopping heaven. Note, I was shopping with hubby and two kiddies in tow, and the lady that helped us out couldn't have been cooler. Oftentimes, when I walk into a nice dress shop with my kiddies, I feel dismissed and non-priority. This was exactly the opposite experience. I was given top-notch service, help selecting flattering dresses, and my well-behaved older kids were made to feel comfortable, which really is the only reason that dress shopping can be stressful for them. I couldn't get hubby to try on any of the fabulous mens' fashions, but I did enough trying on for all, and ended up with a spectacularly fabulous mod fashion of my own for just over $100.
