The BBQ shack looked like a converted shipping container located on the outside walking area of HEB. The outdoor sitting area consisted of five metal tables, metal chairs, and umbrellas. It was over 95 degrees under the Texas sun. HEB should have wood seatings and tables instead of metal. Better yet, HEB should have located the BBQ shack inside the store. I ordered 1/2 lb of fatty brisket and brisket baked bean. Mrs. ordered a large pulled pork sandwich. Youngest daughter did the smart thing by going into HEB to purchase a prepared Mediterranean salad. The foods came out quick and we checked our purchase. First thing we noticed was the advertised pickles, bread, raw onions, and BBQ sauce that supposedly came were our meal were missing. So Mrs had to go back and asked for them. She was given another bag, but it only contained raw onion and bread. At this point, we didn't care, we just wanted to satisfy our hunger. The second thing we notice was that $3.49 small baked bean was not small but micro instead. I literally got just big one bite of the bean and it was done. The beans tasted all right. The briskets in the wrapper were two third fatty and one third lean, but I asked for all fatty. Smoke flavor and bark of the briskets were light, and so was the beefy taste. The pulled pork sandwich was nothing special, but it did have lots of pulled pork. The counter service was lacking in friendliness, food service, and customer service. This was the the worst Texas BBQ meal we ever had in term of foods, services, and dining experience. Prices were lower than the typical Texas BBQ shacks, but the saving was not worth it. We love HEB, the grocer. HEB, the Texas BBQ pit master is no bueno.

I can't believe it's taken me this long to write a review of our "new" grocery store. We've been…read moreshopping here since November 2011, when we relocated to Caldwell from Bryan TX. I love this grocery store! I really really thought I wouldn't given that it's smaller than any HEB, and it's located in rural Texas, which, quite frankly usually means fewer organic selections and dubious cleanliness. I couldn't have been more wrong! The organic produce selection is surprisingly good, as are the "weird" brands we'd become accustomed to at Village Foods. We've found everything from our favorite tomato paste in a tube, to choice and prime beef, which you can't find even at HEB. The store is clean and the staff is moderately helpful. They were running a really cool promo where you'd save stickers with every purchase and get Lock N Lock plastic storage containers with completed sheets, but that expired last month. I hope they run another one soon; we got some great stuff! Given our other options here in Caldwell (zero), I feel like we lucked out here, and it's pretty awesome not to have to drive half an hour for a great selection of products.

This store offers a lot of good sales and deals and I love the annual promotions that have allowed me to save stamps toward knives and lock n' lock containers. This is an awesome incentive for local customers. The staff is always very friendly and helpful too.

Well, it's better than Bastrop. But you can't even get sliced cheese from the deli at 10:15 am…read more HEB needs competition in these parts!!! Two stars for the ability to park AND get a cart in under an hour. Bastrop HEB really has set the bar low on those requirements. I guess we're back to driving 3 hours round trip for grocery shopping in Georgetown... where they have competition, multiple stores, and I've never been told, "Sorry. We're cleaning the machine. After being open for FOUR hours? Either you need to have two machines in rotation or... do this before/after the deli opens. Shocker to get prepared for the day BEFORE the day starts.

I have been to a lot of different grocery stores in my time, and HEB is one that seems to be a…read moredecent one. I went to the one in La Grange, as it was pretty much the only true grocery store in the area (yeah, there is that other one attached to a big box store down the road, but it just isn't the same). Normally grocery stores have a certain layout, and while this store held somewhat true to that typical layout, the one thing it did not have was the standard dimensions. In this store the aisles are relatively short, but there are a bunch of them, which means that finding the right aisle for an item can be a bit tougher because of the way things are distributed through the store. You still have your various sections, like your meat department and your produce, though the deli was in a very odd spot at the front of the store with the access to it pointed away from the entrance to the store. I had to walk the whole way around the store before I was able to find the deli! The store is clean and decently lit, so finding what you need isn't a problem. Variety seemed to be there to some extent, though the deli didn't have any fried chicken which seemed odd to me... baked whole chickens, sure, but no deep fried chicken. Anyway, if you are looking for a grocery store in La Grange, I would say HEB is the place to go, and bypass that big box store down the road.
