Every time I stop here it's worse and worse. Most of the gas pumps are broken and everything is filthy.

I LOVE this place. I stop every time I am driving to my mom's coming from Austin. it's the perfect location for a potty break. I always get some kolaches for my mom. They have a wonderful selection. And they are the only place I know that correctly calls "sausage kolaches" as their real name--Klobásník--or Klobásníky (plural.) but don't expect those to still be there. On a weekday, they might still have these Czech treats until 3 pm, but on the weekends, they go fast! Always friendly staff and i just love looking through their home decor. They have the cutest little tchotchkes that are locally crafted and so wonderful for home, garden, or lawn. I have bought many a christmas and birthday gift on the way. Great metal art as well! The bathrooms are always clean and smell fine. I highly recommend stopping at least one time to see everything they have to offer. It's a true, "small Texas town" stop! Oh, and set the GPS! It's one of those "blink and you'll miss it" towns. One light and then it's gone. read more

They are VERY EXPENSIVE ! Especially when there is a FANTASTIC gas station that just opened on the east side of Burton ! ( just a few miles further east ) OR - keep driving a few miles more to a MUCH better Weikels's WITH a MUCH better variety! And selection ! THE HOURS at ALL other stores are 24 hours or at least midnight. This place closed very early , is SO EXPENSIVE , AND has a WEIRD sewage SMELL that seems to happen OFTEN (one MAIN reason I no longer stop here ) This is the WORST and most expensive store - especially when if you keep driving you'll find MUCH BETTER OPTIONS! read more

The Yelp reviews were correct most of the products were expired. Thankfully the water we ran in for was not. Buyers beware!

This review is mainly for Weikel's, the bakery inside the grocery /food store. This Weikel's is the sister bakery to the main location in La Grange that I always stop at when traveling from Houston to Austin. It's located in the same complex as JW's Steakhouse and the bakery is inside Village Market. The bakery is straight back once you walk in the door. Carmine is a town loaded full of antique stores which have moved into older buildings and former residences. There are enough stores to keep you busy for several hours, if you were to make a quick trip out to this area for a kolache run. As far as weikel's, they make excellent fruit kolaches, sausage kolaches, pecan bars, cinnamon buns, and other goodies. I must get a cream cheese, pinneaple, and sausage kolache everytime I come. read more

Neat little market in the small city of Carmine. I originally stopped by because the Weikel's sign advertising kolaches caught my attention. I hadn't eaten yet so it wasn't a bad idea to stretch my legs and get a kolache. This little market carries everything from various types of cheese, frozen items, drinks, canned goods, and neat little trinkets that could serve as road trip souvenirs. I purchased a pig & cheese kolache and a rice krispie w/ pecans for only $3.60. The kolache was delicious, especially after popping it in the microwave for a few seconds. The rice krispie was huge and such a good value for the price (I think $1.20-ish). It was sweet, but not overly sweet, and the pecans added a little nutty flavor. I spent the rest of my road trip happily munching on the krispie. I'll probably stop by here again for the same two items next time I'm driving by. read more

I make the trip down 290 between Austin and Houston quite frequently. Heading east, I chose not to stop in Giddings and was looking for a nice stop along the eastbound side. I took a chance because of their huge display of metal art. Not expecting much, I was thrilled to find their restroom rivaled Bucees in cleanliness. Thank you Village Market. read more

Stopped in yesterday for a quick pit stop and snack. Use to be my go between Austin and Houston. It's been several years since I've been there and what a difference. The bathrooms need a lot of attention. A good cleaning is highly recommended. The shelves need to be restocked and the bakery and deli have really gone down as in having few products. There must be new owners cause this has really changed and not for the better. Please bring this back to the higher standards this great little store once had. Now it's just another roadside convenience store. read more

Beautiful bathrooms that were as clean as Buc'ee's...which is high praise indeed! Lots of coffee options by Independence Coffee out of Brenham, baked goods from kolache heaven...Weikel's...doesn't get much better than that! This will be a definite stop on our pilgrimages to and from the Houston area, since they scored the trifecta....clean bathrooms, great coffee and snacks...and lots of cured meats from Prasek's and Eckermann's. read more

Great place to stop! I use the clean restrooms, park up front, easy access since speed limit lowers to 55mph through this part of 290. I always get a cold drink and sometimes a sausage and cheese pack which is delicious/premade. Service is great and lots of cute candles, shirts, decor to look at. read more

Could this market be any more sweet?!?! My son and I are visiting from LA (that's Los Angeles) and we got stuck in a storm on the highway from Austin to Houston. My son needed to use the restroom (they are NICE here and I'm a germaphobe) so we stopped here. With a very stressful hour left to drive in the downpour and on unfamiliar roads, it was very heartwarming to be treated with true Southern Hospitality! The sweetheart at the register gave us a discount on the big sloth plush that my son fell in love with. *swoooooon!* and a man named David ran out into the rain to fetch an umbrella from his vehicle and then escorted us to the car. This was ankle deep rain, people. We will definitely be stopping here when we have more time and it is not stormy. There are tons of toys in the store. Lots of our favorite Melissa & Doug goodies. The Wild Republic brand. Several unique gifts/useful items. A hoard of metal sculptures (check that skeleton dude).. What looked like a full service bakery and deli almost too much high quality stuff I wasn't prepared to peruse! Amazing place. My son fell alseep hugging his new friend and we made it back to Cypress and will be flying home to California soon. Thanks for the sweetness! We will be back! read more

Great market on the drive from Houston to Austin. Stopped in for kolaches and was pleasantly surprised. Only issue was that they served the sausage and cheese kolache cold, which isn't the most appealing thing. Would be 5 starts if they warmed it up for you! Good coffee selection and some fun, quircky gifts outside to purchase. Solid stop overall on the road. read more

Oh my goodness, if I was sure I wasn't going to go into a sugar coma eating all my goodies on the way back to Georgetown from Houston... I bought: peanut butter cookies (mostly gone by the time I got to Austin). They were thick, not too soft, and delicious; a cream cheese kolache (the real deal, y'all), two cinnamon rolls and a honey bee which is like a cinnamon roll but make with local honey and pecans. The latter have yet to be consumed but they look amazing. So if you are travelling on 290 from Austin to Houston or vice versa and you want to take some fresh baked goods with you, please stop here, it's the best bakery around. Don't blink or you will miss Carmine. It's one of those towns on 290 where the speed limit is suddenly 55 but no one pays attention. You will not regret stopping by, plus there's kitschy stuff for your home and yard. Also you can stop here and get a sandwich made with Boar's Head, they slice the meat right in front of you. Woah woah woah, this place is great! Exactly what you would expect with a smallish gas/bakery stop on the way to Austin from Houston or vise versa, except better! You can stop for gas and it is not crowded at all and then find yourself walking through the market store where it has all of the general gas station food stuffs, and not to mention the wall of sausage and meats, oh and also the bakery! :) The kolaches/pigs in a blanket were delicious. For sure in my top three kolaches I've had on any Texas drive. My favorite by far was the sausage and cheese. The bread is sweet and falls apart with bready doughy goodness and then biting into a sausage filled with cheddar exploding on to your tongue and taste buds is quiet magical. Everything is baked in small batches which probably explains why it is so damn good!! People were friendly, bathrooms clean. Overall a grade A experience. After going here I honestly don't know why I would stop at Buc-ee's except if it was night and the Market was closed! read more

This is a great place to stop for sandwiches and baked items. They have some delicious freshly made sandwiches and all the typical convenience store items. Order a sandwich, buy a drink and enjoy it in the clean dining area inside. Their restrooms are also very clean. The Texas basketball museum is right across the street but we didn't have time to check that out. read more

One recommendation....breakfast tacos!!! Oh my gosh....they are humongous and one of the best ways to start the day. Yes....the baked goods are wonderful and the market itself is so cute, but you should really bypass the kolaches for the breakfast tacos if you happen to be making an AM stop. read more
