Well, over the years we've seen a lot bigger and just a few smaller. All in all, there were about ten vendors here. Maybe it's too early in the season, so as we go further into the Summer there could be more. There's plenty of room in the school parking lot they're located in. Anyway, you'll see a nice variety of fruit and vegetables (garlic scapes, anyone?), and a lot of baked goods like breads, quiches, pastries, soft pretzels, and granola. We stopped at the Simple Delights bakery and picked up a nice Lemon Blueberry loaf and a Cinnamon Bun.

Consistent vendors include Berry Ledges Apiary, March Farms, Twin Pines Farm, and Wave Hill Breads, but there is a variety of vendors each week. Following them on Facebook or checking the website will provide a list of who is expected each week and what they're offering. It is dog friendly, although it is on asphalt so take care to give little paws a break.

Since I rarely meet a bakery that doesn't sell something I like, I decided to get a few things in order to form a well-rounded opinion. I chose a previously frozen chicken pot pie, a fresh apple cheese strudel, and a fresh tomato cheese focaccia. I'm happy to report that each item was delicious and tasting "made that morning" fresh. I don't know who Beth is, but she's doing a fantastic job with her baking! The staff for her farmers market at Collinsville/Canton market were very on top of things and more than happy to help you, very friendly, had folks in and out in a matter of minutes. In addition to veggies, Carole and Mark also have free range chickens who jump in little cubicles to lay their eggs. Usually the Grandpa of the family who is in his 90's gathers the eggs and cleans them. The farm has stands at the Torrington Farmers' Market on Saturdays and at the Collinsville Farmers' Market on Sundays during the season. Recently Jack & I had the opportunity to take a tour of the grounds. The crop looked amazing. My favorite was a visit to the "chicken coop" which was a large room in a barn with an outdoor area. The critters even have a pigeon friend who hangs out with them.

It's held at the Litchfield Community Center on Saturdays, and the food is just as good (and sometimes as plentiful) as it is in the summer. It's nice to know even in January I can find delicious eggs almost straight from the chicken! The only downside - no dogs in the winter market, and getting in and out of the parking lot can be a little tight. Proceed with caution and look carefully!

There were a wide variety of colorful flowers, all so pretty. There is a small parking lot and great farm stand. They had drinks, candy, soaps, meats, produce, and more. Well, there's a spanking brand new one in Torrington, and we visited them on their Grand Opening yesterday. The joint was jumping with two food trucks, 150 smiling vendors, raffle contests, and a parking lot that resembled Rentschler Field on game day. As their website states, "Market Street Creatives is a small business community where business owners can help one another, share ideas, and develop relationships that support the community". Simply put, the space is beautiful, I mean really gorgeous. And the vendors pretty much represent every home entrepreneur out there- from art, children's clothing and accessories, books, kitchenware, jewelry, food, candles, collectibles, sewing and embroidery, food, furniture, gifts, greeting cards, health and beauty aids, home décor, leather, linen, towels, office stuff, pottery, stained glass and dozens more. The Market is inside a huge multi-story brick building with art galleries on the walls between building sections. That brick building has a glorious history going back to the 1840's where companies under a series of names manufactured upholstery hardware, hooks and eyes, pins, nails, chains, handles, and even automated posting machines. In the early 2000's, the largest producer of weldless chain products in North America was right there in Torrington. That tenant (Perfection Chain) skedaddled to Alabama in 2013, when the building lay dormant until its 2025 resurrection as Market Street Creatives.
