Came on a Saturday for lunch. The restaurant was surprisingly empty. They opened the front window/doors to give it an alfresco feel. The restaurant is beautifully designed with contemporary wall finishes, hardwood floors and dramatic lighting. We ordered a variety of appetizers and soups. The pan fried gyoza and the samosas had crunch and flavor. The steamed shumai was too soft. The pho was bland with no cinnamon flavor but the curry soup was just right. Sooo yummy! Excellent flavor in everything including the miso soup (which is rare for vegan miso). I usually get the moo sho and general Tso which I highly recommend but I've been craving a good vegan pad see ew for a while so I switched it up and it was a great choice. I remembered really enjoying their Curry Stew on my last visit circa 2014, so I ordered it. Today however, the curry was bitter and the potatoes were bland. The spring roll and miso soup were the redeeming factors. But I was not about to tap out of my $9 lunch special, so I attempted to power through. Just as I was, I felt a bug on my arm. At first I thought it was the pesky fly I'd been swatting away from my table. But no, it was a tiny insect (I'm honestly not sure exactly what kind of bug this was, but let's say if you saw it in your bed you'd probably freak out and do a Google search). The summer rolls were vibrant and came with a nice peanut sauce that hit the spot. Their pumpkin soup was just the thing to battle the frigid conditions as well. There's a reason why vegan stalwart Wild Ginger has been in business for so many years. It is awesome. Their new location on North 10th is even better and more aesthetically pleasing. My family (mostly huge meat eaters) and I have been eating/ordering from Wild Ginger for years. The food ranges from extremely healthy to hearty, rich and decadent. My favorite dish which I have probably ordered 7 times in a row is sauteed organic tofu and mixed vegetables with gluten free white sauce. The white sauce actually tastes much better than the regular brown sauce. I noticed the portion sizes seem to be better when ordering delivery versus dining in though. Other favorite dishes are seitan skewers, cilantro tofu, malaysian curry stew, and all of their dessert cakes (which are from the incredible bakery Vegan Treats). These dishes all have gluten though. I've tried dozens of vegetarian restaurants and this is definitely my favorite. The owner and management is great. The atmosphere is very young. And there are different cuisine options to satisfy every craving from Japanese options, Korean options, Chinese options, Vietnamese, Thai, and a few others which made it really hard for me to decide what I want. I brought my parents here and their diet is extremely restricted and they're pretty picky, but the wait staff were very accomodating. I am a big fan of the kale salad, jade mushrooms, Indian curry appetizer, black pepper seitan, Thai vegan ice tea, tofu ice cream and pumpkin cheesecake is awesome! This is truly as good as it gets when it comes to vegan food. The fake meat was seriously magical. Tasted like the real thing! We had the Thai Basil Fried Rice and the Lemongrass Soy Protein. Also, not pictured, is the Tom Yum soup which was just as spicy as the Thai Basil Fried Rice-- so if you can't handle the heat, maybe try something else! As someone with fructose malabsorption- I could find plenty to eat at this place, and left feeling healthy! The ambiance was sweet- very dark and romantic, even though we went for lunch. The service wasn't friendly, but not unfriendly either. Left us alone for the most part, which isn't for everyone, but was fine by us. Did have to wait a little while for service after our food was served- they never came to check in on us, which would have been nice. The girl who I ate here with had a nut allergy, and made the servers aware of that. Also why have all your sauces have been watered down? The viscosity just blows. The server didnt smile and smugly corrected my friend's pronunciation of 'Singha' when she ordered a beer. There was no 'thank you for coming' after we paid. It felt like they didnt want us there. The food is fresh and not heavy like Chinese food. The vegan meats are fire too! Also their peanut butter bomb cake is surprisingly ridiculous. I used to love this place because it's vegan and it was always delicious. Unfortunately I won't be eating here or ordering from here ever again. We got 2 lunch special delivered to our house and to our total shock one of the spring rolls had a giant thick black PUBIC HAIR inside of it. Unfortunately I already took a bite and what was inside my mouth felt like food mixed with sand/dust. I spit it out and immediately called the restaurant to tell them what happened. The manager was very rude and told me that they "don't prepare their spring rolls but order them pre-made from some "big corporation" and if I want to sue I can go ahead and do it and I will most likely lose. Not exactly the kind of reaction I expected from them. They didn't offer a refund, but a restaurant credit. I said considering what happened I don't even want to eat there again because I simply don't feel that the food is safe. Therefore I don't want a refund. Alas, they told me it's not their problem and I should ask for a refund from GrubHub, because I paid them and not the restaurant. Interesting logic and complete bullshit.
