My friends invited me on a camping trip at WMW as they felt it would be a nice intro to tent camping/somewhat a glamping experience since they have showers and bathrooms as well as there's a winery. When we arrived the signs were a bit confusing as to where to go, we ended up pulling up to the house at the top of a hill but were given instructions to drive around the building past the bathrooms. When we got there there were carts to help us load and tote our stuff up to the camp site. There were multiple paths up to our site which was nice. The first night we decided to eat at the winery. We ordered a pizza, got a bottle of the sweet red wine and they had board games we could play as we waited for the pizza to cook. They wood fire Heggies pizza. We got a chicken Alfredo one which was really good, we ended up getting a second one. They had $10 wine slushies. Cath the bartender put us on to mixing the flavors. Both were really good and began our fav/go to drink for the weekend. Also Cath had great customer service and was there all weekend which was nice! She was great. We stayed at site 3 and it was a decent size, had a smaller 2 person bench/table, fire pit and was very well shaded. When it rained we didn't get too flooded out which was nice. The rest of the experience was mostly on us to make, during the day we took a walk and explored the vineyard. They had a few grapes growing, they also have yurts you can rent which is nice if you want to go full glamp. They were spacious and kind of had their own areas which in the vineyard. I will say there was a larger staying down by the yurts and we could hear them most of the night up in the woods where we were. Also live music at the tasting room/courtyard on Saturdays. They started around 12:30pm and went late into the evening. We could hear the music from our campsite which was nice. It rained that night so it started outside then they moved the music inside. Something to do though. They do have a coffee room that is open 24hrs which is nice. They sell snacks and stuff in there as well. Generally it was a good first experience/intro to camping despite it being a cold, rainy, summer weekend but I'd do it again. read more

We got a great deal on wine tastings through a Groupon. Each couple got two flights of wine tastings, two glasses of wine, and a cheese/cracker plate with a huge block of smoked Gouda. We paid about half of what we'd pay if we ordered that separately. They had live music playing outdoors. Since it was really hot, we sat inside although that was still warm as well. They had board games people could play while they enjoyed their wine. It was an enjoyable hour or so on a lazy Saturday afternoon. The servers were all friendly. read more

Had a really great time with my friends camping at Wild Mountain Winery. It's a pretty small winery but the campgrounds are nice with solid tree coverage. Campsites were a bit close together for my liking and most seemed to only have half picnic tables which was a bit odd to me, but it was cool. Our neighbors were friendly enough. If you're feeling bougie they have a bunch of cute yurts situated along the winery you can rent. They also have clean restrooms and showers to use. There is a small coffee room with a couple keurigs to help yourself to and firewood for sale. The bar area has ample seating inside and out. Some of the patrons were maybe not oozing welcoming vibes for our mixed BIPOC/LGBTQ+ group but the bartenders and all staff we encountered were lovely. They have awesome wine slushies whicb you can mix flavors of berry or peach. There is also a gift shop to pick up some goodies on your way out. All in all I had a good time here, check it out for camping or just a drink if you're in the area. read more

Live music on the weekends- Russel Schidmt is a national treasure if you have a chance to hear him- the wine slushies are scrumptious, vibes are very homey and I always love supporting a a small family business. I've seen some advertisements for this winery and finally decided to meet friends there on a Friday evening. The pleasant drive north brought us through the surrounding mix of hills, valleys and farms. We enjoyed the views and the casual warm atmosphere of the winery. We enjoyed the wine sampling, taking a stroll around the property and listening to the live band. A few people were staying in nice tents scattered in the vineyard which you are able to reserve. Tucked away deep in Chisago County is this small winery. There are a few buildings and an outdoor area for parties. The tasting is one building and bottles and gift shop in another. The road leading in is difficult to spot unless you see the sign. It is a simple two rutted dirt and grass road leading to an unpaved parking lot. I like the feeling this rural area provides. There is a nice selection of mostly fruity wines made from local ingredients and the staff is very nice. You get to sample six wines in a tasting. There is a menu of sorts explaining the wines which you'll have to depend on. This was a pleasant find after hiking in the State Park and I get to sample six chilled wines. Three of us stopped in here during our Ladies Weekend after snowboarding (ie flailing down the bunny hill) at Wild Mountain. Although we came here in the winter when everything was dead and cold, we still had a lovely evening at Wild Mountain Winery. The snow-covered grounds and cozy tasting room were still a treat. The quaint tasting room and wine samples really warmed us up. And the value was great! We shared 16 wine tastings for just $15 total! There's free popcorn, dark chocolate is provided for the last red wine, and you can also purchase a meat and cheese board. They give you a laminated wine list and a dry-erase marker, so you can make notes during your tasting. There is an assortment of seating, a few board games, and a guitar to enjoy between sipping. I am no connoisseur of wine, so all I know is I like the whites better than the reds haha. They started dry to sweet, and I liked the ones that were middle-of-road. After a day of hiking around the Taylors falls area, what better way than to wind down than with a glass of wine, free popcorn, and live music. We do the couples wine tasting. It's $15 and two people can try all the wines listed on their tasting menu. The wines are generally sweeter since they are using MN grapes. I am a fan of the arrowhead red which is one of their dry red wines. They have patio seating available and you can see the vines from your seat. After following the gps directions to the vineyard, we hiked up the "Let the Adventures Begin" trail from the parking lot to the wine tasting room. We sampled a lot of local wines and had cheese & crackers and a kiss of dark chocolate with our glasses of wine out in the patio area. We really enjoyed this family run winery. We did the couples tasting and thought it was a great deal. We also were as to sample two delicious hard ciders. The smoked cheese they served with crackers during the tasting was wonderful. They were helpful, answered all of our questions and the young man hosting our tasting was very friendly. We visited in the winter, but would like to return when it is warmer so we can explore vineyards. So I really want to have a good wine tasting experience in Minnesota having moved here from Northern California but I really don't think its in the cards. We stopped by this place based on the yelp reviews on our way back from WI. Winery was cute, wines were decent but the wine tasting experience not so much. They have a few different options on tastings- couples tasing where you can taste all the wines and an individual one. The problem wasn't the tasting options, it was the process. I didn't like the fact that they just pour me some wine, don't tell me anything about the wines and then give me tokens for the rest of the tastings that you use when you want to taste the next one. Basically you are paying to drink. Not for a tasting experience. Isn't the point of the tasting to understand the wine and figure out that you like and then hey! if you really like something you buy a bottle? But no. Sad because I really wanted this to be much more than just paying to drink little sips of wine. read more

Even their driest of red wines was still wet and tasty to our palates. They had some of the best local white wine I have ever had in Minnesota. Very good price for all of their selections too. This was a very nice place to visit, the wines were wonderful, the meat and cheese platter was great, and the staff was very nice.. except... and here is why they get a 3 not a 5... there was one staff member clearly intoxicated. She was stumbling around, slurring her words, and when we asked if we could get a photo in front of the grape vines, we received a 10 minute incoherent story involving grapes, her personal political views, North Korea's missile launches, and no salvageable photos. I'm not really a fan of hearing drunken tirades or watching staff members struggle to maintain their buzz, its just not professional. I understand it is a vineyard, and that is what you do with wine, but maybe they could save it for when they are off the clock. Outside of that it was a wonderful place to visit. read more

I was very hesitant to go up to this Winery. I, in fact, told my niece, lets not go up there.... The only reason I am giving four stars is because the people working here were so so nice!! The lady and young gentleman at the bar, the woman who walked around the "garage like" venue, all were down to earth friendly! The price was fair. I think a tasting for two was $15 and included like 8 tastings, cheese and crackers, and a final taste of port with a chocolate. I am not sure it included the glass or not but we were going to take our glass but forgot.. :(... Of all the Winery's we visited that day, this was the most rural country looking one. It looked like a converted garage. Inside decorating was a little tacky. Saws on the walls, decorations on the tables were wine bottles with lights in them (which I really liked) but then on the top of each bottle, it looked like some homemade toppers... Seemed like no one was picking up empty glasses or plates so it was a little dirty. I did not like any of the wines here at all especially the port. I don't like port anyways but this one we both almost spit out. I most definitely will not come to this Winery again but its definitely worth a try. Beautiful place. Just enough charm and whimsy. I was here last year before Covid-19. I enjoyed my visit with a friend and the owner was a friendly gentleman. My friend and I struck up a conversation with him and that made our afternoon visit even more enjoyable. Now we returned yesterday...it's a beautiful day wines are on point. However, the young man pouring wine behind the cash register gave us very generous pours of the wines we liked. He we felt didn't want to be there and it showed. He was for no better word(s) crabby. For a young man he was simply a grouch. We will be back but now me and the two others I brought with me will always remember the young grouchy/crabby young man who gave us a generous pour. read more

It was very fun and informative and didn't make me feel "dumb" We tried about 10 different wines during the class (make sure you eat before you come!) I will say the staff in the bottle store was not as welcoming as the rest of the staff. She seemed a little put out when she had to go to the basement to get another bottle. Could have easily been a miscommunication as the rest of the staff was so helpful. Be sure to try the ice wine. SO GOOD! We will definitely be back! read more

We got the Groupon and drove an hour to get here. All the wine was spectacular, but the people working made us feel very unwelcome, so we only spent as much time as needed to do our tasting. There was an elderly man pouring our tasting - he silently poured and didn't tell us anything about them, then proceeded to go sit silently with a fly swatter in his hand. So. Weird. There was a younger guy who was really nice and the lifeblood of the place, and I think he could tell he needed to overcompensate for the elderly man. Debby was nice, but very curt and a little abrasive when we asked if we got cheese and crackers with our Groupon - made me too uncomfortable to go back up. Also, we paid $29 for the Groupon and did the math... we paid as much for the Groupon as it all would have been regular price, so I don't recommend going that route- probably the least worth-it Groupon "deal" out there. Actually I think you get more paying regular price, because the tasting there comes with cheese and crackers. read more

I took my parents to wild mountain for a day trip. It was a nice outing, the staff was very helpful and the wine was as one would expect for the difficult climate in Minnesota. We had gone to the landscape arboretum the day before, so seeing the grape varieties that were created at the UMN landscape arboretum grow and tasting the wine made the experience more interesting. Charming, little winery located pretty much in the middle of nowhere, but worth the trek! It's located right at the owner's house and has a beautiful outdoor patio area to sit and enjoy the wine. We did the couples wine tasting for $15 (15 tastes) - some of the wines seemed awfully similar, but it was fun none the less. You get to try red wines, white wines, cider, a rose wine and a dessert wine (with chocolate). The coolest part is you can also walk around the field of grape plants while sipping on your wine. The loop is about a quarter mile long and there are 8 different information points that teach about the grapes, how they're made and harvested, etc. There's also a little shop where you can purchase bottles of wine and other related items.
