(For instance, I ordered a cocktail with our appetizer and also asked for a glass of wine to be brought with the steak, and the timing was perfect - not always the case when you ask for something to come 20 minutes later.) The food is basic "steakhouse" food - no bells and whistles, and nothing to make it unique, but the steak was delicious, and the sides were perfectly fine. It certainly hit the spot after a day of hiking and exploring. It's expensive, as one would expect in a remote location like this. In normal circumstances, the value wouldn't be there to make it worth visiting... but in the middle of Death Valley, I'll take it! I would go back if I was staying the night again for sure.

(barf) And -- the "concessionaire," Powdr," prohibits cooking in rooms -- $250 fine. Great way to steer traffic to your nasty restaurants. Side note: The employees eat for free here and are given employer-paid housing. Many are *totally* unqualified and abrasive -- should never be dealing with the public.
