There are two cafés attached to the ski lodge section. One is more of a café with cofffee, drinks, and light snacks and this one is the restaurant option. You have your basic burgers, chicken, hotdog, and easy food to scarf down after your day of skiing. There's only one person working the line, so it pretty long during lunchtime with this being the only real lunch spot as an option. I went with the western burger with onion rings. The wait was a little long for it and Service was just all right. Price range is a little high for a burger, considering the quality and size. Way up high sitting at over 8000 feet you will find this restaurant in the new lodge that they have built here at Lee Canyon. After a hiking the Upper Bristlecone trail, we were a little famished and decided to stop here for a bite before heading back down the mountain. The weather was perfect and we opted for patio dining. I have dined here twice and the food is good. This time I ordered the fish tacos and beer. We were served pretty quickly. My tacos were decent not incredible but then again I was up in the Spring Mountains not near an ocean. My beer was satisfying although I am not a fan of pale ales but when it's all they offer, one has to make sacrifices. Let me speak about the bar. My husband and I were both so excited to see that they had preserved a portion of the original bar that used to be here before they renovated and built the new lodge. After skiing, we would always stop in here for a shot or two of Jagermeister. Happy they saw it fitting to preserve some Lee Canyon history. The best part of dining here is the views. You are completely surrounded by the gorgeous Spring Mountains that make up our ski area - Lee Canyon. I love it in the summer up here as it is so pleasant compared to the rest of the valley with temperatures consistently 30-40 degrees cooler than the city. Service was efficient not overly friendly. This is Lee Canyon's restaurant, located on the first floor outside of the main lodge. This place seems to be less busy than the upstairs restaurant, so maybe that means you can get your food faster and hit the slopes again. However, don't expect fast service. We went on a Thursday when it was pretty empty, and it still took 15-20 minutes for our 2 orders to come out. On a busy day, I would expect the wait to be pretty crazy. Prices are on the higher side, but with the $10 corduroy cash at Lee Canyon offers. If you purchase your ticket early, it makes everything pretty average priced. If you go with a group, they allow you to combine your corduroy cash in one purchase, which is nice as well. Chicken Tenders- 6/10 ($16) - they give ranch dressing and barbecue sauce, which pairs well with the fries and chicken tenders - chicken tenders are pretty juicy, but taste kind of like the frozen ones you would get at Costco and then make it in a deep fryer - fries are pretty crispy, pretty good Western Burger- 4/10 ($19) - instead of giving you a side of fries, they give you a side of chips. I'll start with the positive. The back of the house has their stuff together. You can see the food runners zig zagging around hustling. We got our food within 5 minutes of ordering. The foot was hot and good. The front of the house is a disaster. I waited in line 40 minutes to order. There were only 10 people in front of me. We ordered the giant pretzel which came with beer cheese sauce, a gyro which came with hot crispy fries, a mango Heff (beer) and a bottle soda. We were able to take our food to the upper outside deck which had great views. Everything was delicious and portions were large. The pretzel was nice and crispy on the outside with a soft interior. The gyro meat was cut thin with a little crispness on the edges with lettuce, tomato, onion, and tzatziki sauce! We couldn't eat it all and had leftovers for the next day! Decided to visit Mt. Charleston to check out the area and decided to eat here for lunch. This eatery is located at this ski resort. A huge plus is that it's about 25-30 degrees cooler here because of the high elevation. So it's a great way to escape the heat! I was in Lee Canyon area planting trees for Earth Day event and I was incredibly hungry after so I stopped at the Big Horn Grill. My party was promptly greeted and they quickly made seating arrangements that worked for us given that we had 8 people. They split us per restriction which was fine but they mad it happy in a timely manner and you could tell that the staff was putting effort into getting sat. Good work is easy to spot. I ended up settling on a Lee Canyon brew and a burger with bacon and chili cheese fries. This was a complete gut buster. The first bite of my burger was delicious. They cooked the meet to perfection. Absolutely terrible and disappointing experience. I don't even know where to begin. First we ended up patiently and respectfully waiting an hour for our food to arrive (which was a house salad, fries, & chicken tenders, nothing crazy or complex). Not a single word was said to us about them being out of fries until we said this isn't what we ordered. The super (only) kind server with the long blonde hair(bless her, she was the only one with customer service in the whole place) informed us they had been out of fries for 2 hours and she was disappointed they didn't tell us when we ordered our food. So instead of fries they were giving out cheap tortilla chips and salsa while still charging for fries. At that point we just wanted a refund. The kind server was searching high and low for her supervisors for another 30 minutes. When we were finally about to get our refund we had to wait with two other people who were also waiting for a refund because of a list of various issues they also had with the service or lack there of here. As we are finally getting our refund, not one member of the staff, supervisors and managers included, addressed a single thing we experienced(besides the female server with the long hair) instead some young guy Jason was laughing at the fact we have been screwed over and waited so long and so did 2 other customers. I told Jason I don't think it's funny when our entire day was messed up because of this as well as the other two customers next to me, and that's when he decided to tell me, next to his supervisor MJ, he does think it's funny because he has been working some number of days with one day off and how he's gonna quit and doesn't care about any of this in some weird effort to argue with me. We truly had no idea what was going on at this point, I work 6 days a week 10 hours a day, I don't need this kid complaining and shit talking to me about days off. This was the last straw for us. We were all visibly cheated by this establishment and all the staff did was make the situation worse. TLDR; Getting straight to the point, the food wasn't good, but it wasn't bad. Very average food and a small menu. I had a vegan hotdog and it was pretty good, but went with 6 other people and they were all disappointed with their food. The hostess was a mess trying to seat parties but we had a pretty nice server. Also, DO NOT eat outside, there are lots of bugs and flies everywhere. Service We waited in line for about 20 minutes just to put our name on the list. It was very strange for how the hostess was organizing and handling customers as they came. She would take about 5 minutes per party to decide or not if you will be seated and couldn't give any time estimates if you were told to wait. She also would disappear for minutes at a time making the line just to get on the list ridiculously long. Our server was having a tough time between the kitchen and the hostess seating tables but she was very nice and was still very upbeat even though all the visible chaos and confusion. Environment The indoor dining area is pretty small in comparison to outdoor dining. Tables were not cleaned really well between services and not all their outdoor dining spots have umbrellas which could be problematic when its pretty hot outside. The biggest turnoff / disgusting part of it was the specific table we got sat at had dozens of flies of different types flying around us, landing on us, our food, drinks, etc. We were told it was like this everywhere but we opted to take our food with us to a different table and did not experience the same thing, which was disappointing that we got sat there at all. Food Vegan Hotdog I will say the vegan hotdog was very flavorful and cooked perfectly. The portion size was a little small for the price but with a little bit of ketchup and their whole-grain mustard, it was still pretty delicious. There are two places to eat up on the mountain and I chose the Bighorn grill. I ordered chips and salsa for an appetizer. They put course salt on the chips and the salsa had a lot of flavor (not spicy.) My man got a house salad with ranch and said their ranch was really good, not like the stuff you can get at the store. I ordered a caprese sandwich wow was I glad I did! The chicken was cooked perfectly, it was very juicy. The fries are cut thin almost like chips they have course salt and pepper on them and they will give you ketchup and a pickle on your plate as well. Me and my husband came to Mt Charleston for our honeymoon. We saw this place online and wanted to check it out. Now please note It says its open 7 days a week online when its only open 3 days ( Friday , Saturday,Sunday) . Which is fine- just not what we expected . We walked up to the counter and saw the menu was not the same online - nothing online matched up with the actual location- DO NOT get your hopes up. I proceeded to ask if that was their full menu and she gave me the worst attitude and said " of course it is - thats all we have" I let her know that the website had more and thanked her for her information. We settled on a burger meal and a wrap meal. We sat down and got our food about 20 minutes later. My husband started to eat his wrap and drink his soda - He mentioned that it was flat and couldn't understand why - he drank it down to the expiration date to see it clearly and it was 2 months expired. Soda normally has around a 1 year shelf date .... gross. He informed me that he wrap was pretty decent though. I started to eat my food and the only decent part of my meal was the fries . Now the Big Horn Grill The Big Horn Grill is a one of a kind casual dining experience that rises above it all. Literally! Standing on the top of Lee Summit 8,000 feet above sea level and 4,000 feet above the Las Vegas Vallet in the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area, the Big Horn Grill brings casual dining up to the stratosphere. Last Sunday, my brother and I decided to try the Big Horn Grill between hiking in the bristlecone forest and riding the Mount Charleston scenic ski chairlift. This was on our radar since two weeks ago when we caught eyes on the refurbished complex. When we hiked the Bristlecone Trail last summer, the Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort with the Big Horn Grill were closed for renovation. The Big Horn Grill is located on the upper floor of the ski lodge. The restaurant and bar is a dining room and patio. We joined the majority of the guests outside on the patio. This is a patio 8,000 feet up in the sky that elevates the patrons to Cloud 9. The views are off the charts mezmerizing. A frisbie golf swing away from the patio are the ski lifts that reach toward Mount Charleston. These are ski lifts that the public can pay to sightsee for $12. Meanwhile, there is spectacular sightseeing from the patio that is surrounded by ponderosa and bristlecone forests that merge with the low canopy of cumulus clouds. You are so near Mount Charleston that it seems that you can touch it. Closer than Mount Charleston were the wildhorses on the hill. The landscape of Mount Charleston is quintessential relax in nature scenery. The Daniel S-pectation: In a World where competition is 4,000 feet and over 20 miles below, I thought that I could get ripped off or overpay for mediocrity. Then there was a part of me that thought the food could be just as good as Mount Rainer and Yellowstone National Parks. The Daniel S-perience of Big Horn Grill: As I explained earlier in this reporting of Big Horn Grill, the patio is unparalleled. Additionally it is twenty degrees cooler up here than Las Vegas. When it was summer down in Vegas it was Spring up here. I ordered the $13 Yeti Burger with fries and a Pepsi. For a restaurant in the wilderness, I was impressed that they only charge $2 for a Pepsi. I was even more impressed with the Yeti Burger. In all truth, it was just good as many of the burger grills on the Strip. The Yeti Burger is a half pounder all beef burger with sautéed mushrooms and swiss cheese. The texture and temperature of the burger was just the way I like it. The fries were also good. Owing to the fact that the scenery is as good as it gets, an extra star was called for. Regardless, the burger is worthy of 3.5 stars. By the way, here is an unimportant fact: Yeti means abominable snowman. Now here is an important fact: Big Horn Grill is a full service restaurant where a waitress serves your food. Our waitress was pleasant at the exact time that she wasn't overly friendly. Here is one more fact: this is an appropriate place for families and dogs. I saw a few guests with dogs. One dog was even drinking out of a dog bowl. Conclusion: Sitting outside in the Spring Mountains National Conservation Area overlooking Mount Charleston while taking bites of a delicious Yeti Burger is a dining experience that rises above it all. Another way of saying that Big Horn Grill is 4 stars. Big Horn Grill is also advantageous for hikers that prefer to maximize their time in nature instead of leaving leaving cloud 9 to have dinner in the city. Big Horn Grill put my brother and I in a position that after a hike, we rested up and dined nearby, then walked a few steps to experience scenic ski chair ride. I definitely hope they improve food quality because I really love coming here to hike and don't want to have to skip grabbing a meal. I would really look forward to enjoying the new building if they made it worth eating there. read more
