Went on a Wednesday night to show my friend the place. He was visiting from Australia for a short time so we decided to have a night out to show him Boston nightlife. We were both 100% sober. The bouncer refused to let us in. He claimed the bouncer over at Sissy K's has kicked us out and there was no way we were coming in there. After a bit of work, we got the bouncer from the other bar to walk all the way over there and confirm that NONE of that was true. The bouncer STILL did not let us in. I hope he's been fired by now. The Wild Rover is okay. Got a meh G&T for $7.50 and it was difficult to reach a bartender since it seems like they were understaffed for a Friday night. The place is split into two floors, the lower one being more like a regular sports bar, and the top floor had a pretty wide dance area. Went here recently on a Friday night. There were only two floors opened at the time, the bottom floor wasn't opened. Nonetheless, we surprisingly had a great night!! It's located right next to Hong Kong. The vibe between the two bars are completely different. If you take a look at the people standing in each line, you know what I mean. And yes, either or, the young crowd will outnumber. BTW I suggest you go early if you want to save a few dollars from paying a cover charge and parking fees. (Arrive by 10 pm!) I really enjoyed the karaoke bar on the main floor. Great entertainment! We didn't get a chance to, by the time we were willing to partake it was coming to an end. FYI karaoke stops at 1am. We were also able to order food along with our drinks. The nachos we had were decent bar standard. Although I wished there was some salsa or sauce to accompany the dish. I've also never seen so much olives in my nacho experience! The drinks are inexpensive. (Possibly explains the inebriated patrons before 12.) Our waitress let us sampled all the frozen mixed drinks, which allowed us to take our pick. The dance floor (second floor) was kind of cramped. There are two bars, one at the dance floor and the other off to the side. I was really annoyed with one of the bartender's demeanor. She was miserable, which I will emphasize, the ENTIRE night. I think as a bartender, you're usually the first interaction we encounter, you basically set the mood for us. Shouldn't you be more enthusiastic? And do I really want to tip someone who's not enjoying themselves? Anyways, the music was great!! The mix was awesome. Everything from pop to hip hop! Props to the DJ! I've been coming here for years, I love the place a lot and the karaoke is amazing. One of the guys who works here at the door is a jerk though. My friend has a new NYS ID which they recently changed the look of and the guy wouldn't let her in, was saying some condescending things and kind of power tripping. Not sure what his name is I think he may have been the manager but he was on the shorter side and extremely rude. Kept saying she was lucky he didn't take it... it's a real ID. Are you kidding me? Would recommend to anyone, there's three floors - one floor that's a bar/karaoke and 2 dance floors with great music and DJs. Wild Rover is a lot of fun. The people are usually always friendly and great music on all three floors. Bartenders are great and the bands that play are awesome. Unfortunately all the managers that work there only seem to care about is $$$ which is clearly seen throughout the bar by lack of employees. There are beer cans lying around EVERYWHERE. I mean mounds of them all over the place. The floors are sooooo sticky. And they have mouse traps lying around in the bathroom. Really a shame because they would have more people if they could keep up with the mess created by all the people. This place was packed, and I mean jam packed with college kids and very obvious under-agers. Maybe it's just me getting older but this definitely isn't my scene anymore. A large group of us came here for the night not really knowing what to expect. It was by far the most sweaty bar experience I have ever had and it was basically impossible to move on the second floor level, which was a shame because I love to dance. We all decided to make the most of it and did have a good time together for what it was worth. However, pretty much everyone said they would never go back. The bathroom situation actually wasn't as bad as I was expecting and I've definitely seen much worse. Stay the hell away from this place. Bought tickets for a new year's eve pub crawl through eventbrite, which is a reputable website only to find out the entire crawl was a SCAM. Guess where registration was...Wild Rover. We were told we would be able to be at the bar from 9PM-2AM. When 9 o'clock rolled around we were told the bar was to be emptied for a private event. When we went to other bars in the list, they had no clue that a bar crawl was to happen. Isn't it odd that the management would let somebody set up shop in their establishment only for it to be a completely fake event? 200+ tickets were sold at $40 a piece. You do the math. Sounds like they're in cahoots with Wild Rover if you ask me. After talking about this with friends, I found out this isn't the first time this has happened with registration at Wild Rover. I've been to this place a load of times, and I even recommended it to some friends. One of my friends is a local here and has gone enough to build a rapport with the employees. He's a frequent singer. Anyway, he asked me to join him for the karaoke semi-finals, so I joined him and spent around 5 hours at Wild Rover. Not only were the bartenders unfriendly, but the drinks were so overpriced and had very little substance. It was impossible to even get to the bar because of all of the tables and chairs in the way, and the floor is so sticky. (I was wearing flip-flops and the floor was practically pulling them off. This was not a first.) But the most unappealing thing about my visit at Wild Rover was the fact that before 10 (I think) you can get a bud lite draft for 2 dollars. After 10, they turn off the draft and sell bottled buds for 5.75. I found this out suddenly, without warning, while I intended to order another draft. Although this is a capitalist nation, and we're a society based on business and wealth and the American Dream and money money money, it is so dishonest and shady to suck the money out of your customers by switching from one crappy beer on draft to the same crappy bottled beer. We're charged more for a bottle that has the same amount of alcohol (if not less). Sure, the place is nice. Sure, it has seven-days-a-week karaoke. Sure, it has cool tables that light up. Sure, it fits a lot of people. But don't waste your time here. There are two other bars in the loop that are so much better than Wild Rover. Hong Kong next door is the best karaoke bar I've been to. They have drink specials, their Coors light is ALWAYS 1.75 until they run out of draft, and their scorpion bowls are better than anything Wild Rover serves. The staff is always friendlier. Sissy K's is another good alternative. Again, don't bother going to Wild Rover. Get outside, turn right, and show your ID to the Hong Kong staff. read more

I came here during the Ugly Sweater Pub Crawl and it was surprisingly bad. We asked if, because the pub crawl, we could skip the line. And we explained we saw that somewhere on the pub crawl website. If the answer were no, it'd be OK. The main problem was the way the guy who was checking the IDs treated us. He really didn't want to listen us, and he said if we were not happy "then go to another bar", which was really rude!! We asked to talk to the manager, because we didn't like his attitude at all. It turned out this asshole was actually the manager of the bar. We waited in line, we talked to a staff guy who told us that guy indeed is the manager and an asshole. Haha We asked to talk to another manager, who never shower up. To complete the scenario, the girl bartender was also very rude. She didn't ask which beer we wanted and complained when we said we didn't want Bud light but Budweiser... We drank our beer among other drunkies singing karaoke, which was the only fun we could get there. read more

Came here to watch my friend sing for cash as a semifinalist in a karaoke contest. It was such a riot. As a person who moved to Boston for school, it was really interesting watching the crowd. This place brings in a lot of interesting people. Anyway, there's a cover but the drinks are cheap. I ended up not really ordering anything, but my friend C and I still managed to dance as goofily as possible when my other friend sang. I also sang a few songs and it was fun. The crowd is pretty genial-- it's definitely not the Cambridge crowd, and the singing is awful but engaging. It was sad; my friend was definitely the BEST singer, but some dude who ended with a crappy rap (I'm in a Boat) ended up winning the $250 prize. Boo. Haha, had fun though! read more

After visiting twice, Wild Rover doesn't disappoint if you like great music (think top 40 more hip hop and reggae), dancing and a good guy to girl ratio. The night stays pumping and with affordable drinks this place comes together nicely. You will see things you can't unsee but that's all part of going out and having a fun time! Nope! We walked in and sat at the bar and the first thing I noticed is that I'm sticking to it....and it's not busy. Second thing you notice is the neon lights flashing all around that makes you think you're on a bad trip. Thirdly, it takes a while to get the bartender's attention because they're too busy chatting it up with the regulars. Fourthly, there's some type of buffet, but you can tell it was out for quite some time and had health code violation written all over it. An hour later, the DJ lied and said he'd called us multiple times and accused us of smoking (which was untrue). I just got back home after getting here at around 10-11PM Thursday by myself to sing karaoke and I've honestly never been so upset over how messed up i was treated during a night out. I sang 2 songs over a period of an hour or two and was having a good time before a brand new person who sat next to me at the bar started calling me racist terms and cursing at me after I jokingly grabbed his pitcher of beer and asked if he was planning on finishing the entire pitcher before closing. I might have made a bad joke but if he got offended I quickly apologized and was trying to mind my own business but quickly this guy became belligerent and continued to yell and be racist. There was an employee who talked to me after this happened and apologized for how much of a dick he was being. (Thank you! I appreciate it for real!!!) Then, a "bouncer" and "cop" showed up and I thought ok they can escort this guy out. But instead, they tell me to sit down in the same chair I've been coming back to the entire night while they dont even bother to talk to the clearly belligerent drunk. Meanwhile this racist drunk gets to walk around the karaoke area and when I go to the bathroom he "just happens" to show up at the same time and then threaten me as I try to leave. I kept the door to the bar open with my hand as I am afraid of his behavior and he says along the lines of "Why dont you close the door so I can fuck you up" with a racist term thrown in and slams the door on my arm as I leave. I tell the "bouncer" and "cop" at the door what just happened and I'm pretty upset and pissed at this point but they tell me to calm down and start siding with the other guy and tell me to stop causing a scene and leave if I dont like it. Im already calling a lyft home because I want to get the hell out of this place at this point and the racist gets to walk out into the street and call me a gook while I stand outside and when I tell the "bouncer" and "cop" outside they tell me to stop whining and go somewhere else. It was even worse at times than how I'm describing it here. The "cop" was having a lot of fun flashing his flashlight into a homeless man's face instead of listening to a word I had to say. Finally took my 2nd lyft home. Literally cancelled my first lyft after it got there because I got called a gook in the street and was so upset I had to say something to the bouncer and cop. read more

As you can imagine, my involvement in the social activities surrounding medical school orientation has been non-existent; however, as it was our last day today, I figured I might as well put on a "Jcrew slutty" tiny leopard print dress and show the kids what's up. The med students a year above us were hosting an event at WR, so honestly, I'm not sure what the average patron is like on a Friday night; however, when I left at 12a, not only was the place hopping, but I think there were more non-Tuftsy people trickling in, and all the men looked generically clean-cut in the same A&F button up and jeans -- the girls looked like their outfits had gotten shrunk in the dryer -- but regardless, it was a pretty tame crowd. First floor is HORRIBLE karaoke, second floor is top 40s jammmmz, which I obviously loved -- actually, if you enjoy a lil Flo Rida and/or NIcki Minaj, he's (?she's?) a pretty solid DJ -- able to keep most people prancing all night long. Oh, but my goodness, it becomes a sauna upstairs, so dress accordingly. As I didn't buy myself drinks, no idea how much they cost -- I think Bud Light is under $2 and mixed drinks are under $10 -- all served in plastic cups, so you know the level of class for which you're signing up. Overall, would I go again? I guess I wouldn't seek out WR, but the people watching is solid and the DJ is good for my white girl dancing, so I guess I wouldn't reject it...? If all else fails, just skip over to Hong Kong, which is right next door, and equally gross. read more

This is a great place to visit if you're looking for a fun night out and want to dance. There is a $10 cover and three levels: the first level is private, the second level (at the entrance) has multiple tables and TVs for a bar atmosphere, and the third level has a dance floor with loud music and a bar, which is where my friends and I spent most of the evening. Not sure if they do this every weekend, but they had a crew from 103.3 AMP Radio spinning beats and they did an amazing job. There's usually a song or two I don't like when going out and stop dancing, but that wasn't the case here. The line for drinks wasn't too bad for a Saturday night and all of the staff members were pleasant. I was here for a bachelorette party and the bride and company all had a fun time. There is karaoke here, but it's not really on display and you can barely hear whoever is performing. The wait is also pretty long and they might not let you sing the song you actually want to sing. If you're specifically looking for a place to host a karaoke night, check out some other options first. I plan on coming back here with a few friends from out of town (who like to dance as much as I do) once they visit Boston. read more

Terrible customer service here. We were here as part of friends 30th birthday party. We were promised to be given free entry and skip of lines. On a cold night we were all told to line up outside and pay cover of $10. During this period, the organizer came down with email proving that we were supposed to be given an offer, but we were refused a discount, which was most disappointing. It is difficult for me to put into words what I witnessed this past weekend at the Wild Rover. I can tell you that this experience will hopefully have my friends and others re-evaluate their choice before going to the Wild Rover. I had gone on a Saturday night with a group of 12 of my friends. Within minutes of entering one member of my group, my boyfriend, was targeted. An entitled white male went up to him to show him the exit and tell him to leave (this is without any interaction from our side). This comment immediately made him feel unwelcome in this place. Later into the night when navigating the overcrowded floor with my boyfriend behind me a white male yelled at him accusing him of shoving him. With me in the middle of the two of them I was the only witness and can contest to the fact his hands did not touch this other guys. Instead of stepping to the side as my boyfriend asked him, he continued to yell and call over a staff member. This staff member was very forceful and rude. Without taking a moment to figure out the issue my boyfriend was brought into the back hallway and was told him and his friends needed to leave. We were able to get the "manager" to join in this meeting but the staff member "who witnessed everything" kept speaking over me and my other friend who were defending my boyfriend and trying to explain the situation. The staff member did not conduct himself in any professional manner and to be honest it was hard to distinguish him from the rest of the sweaty drunk people on the floor. Frustrated with the lack of respect and unfairness of the situation we decided to leave. When exiting he received taunts like "Get him out of here!" from people who were not involved at all. How in 2018 can we allow for places that are supposed to bring enjoyable nights be a place where certain populations, such as people of color, be targeted? From a person who grew up and lives in Boston I can not tolerate this behavior to be normalized or acceptable in this city. read more
