The tastings and tours were unavailable at the time of our visit, but we really enjoyed our stop at their pop-up gift shop at the Station Masters house. The staff and bartender were extremely friendly. We had some concerns about the outside bathroom, but they were fresh and clean. We had the Honey in the Hollar cocktail which came in a cute mason jar glass that we got to take home. Visiting the Wild Turkey DIstillery has been on my must visit list for a while and I was very happy to check it off. Located in Lawrenceburg it was a bit of trek from where I was staying in Frankfurt but worth the drive. The first thing you notice after parking in the visitor center lot is the first stall is reserved for the man himself Jimmy Russsell. Look up from the parking lot an you see a very impressive visitor center with that iconic turkey on the side of the building. The tour itself is loaded with the history of the distillery and the distilling lineage that makes it a special place. You are able to see the active fermentation process, the stills, the rickhouses, and ending with a wonderful sampling of four of their products. My only wish was the four samples would have been the higher proof products like the 101, Rye 101, or Rare Breed but I guess there are a lot of newer whiskey lovers who may not appreciate the stronger punch. Once the tour ends you can visit the gift shop and the bar downstairs here you can sample some of their more exclusive pours for a decent price. All in all a great spot to visit. read more

I came to Wild Turkey with family as part of a day trip from Indy to celebrate my uncle's birthday, he's a bourbon guy, having grown up a few hours away. My aunt did all of the planning with the distillery and it was a great time! The tour was very informative and I really liked our guide because I wasn't terribly sure about the bourbon process. The historical aspects of the tour enhanced it, but overall seemed like a very short tour though. The tastings were great because we got to try some varieties! We arrived as requested awhile before the tour began, so off we went to the bar before! They have 2 cocktail drinks available and both are $10-14 a drink because you get to keep the commemorative glass. I went with the punch and one of my cousins went with the lemonade option.I know mine was the better of the two after sampling hers. The glasses are really nicely made and a great momento from the trip as I don't get to hang with that family much. read more

Not sure where to rate this one, really. Probably in the 3.5 range. But because Yelp only lets me rate in whole numbers, I'll round up to 4. And that's a reasonable place for it. The star of the tour was our tour guide. He was a former United States Marine Corps Drill Instructor. And you could kind of tell. He had a cadence when he spoke, and it was fun to listen to. I enjoyed him a lot. Great tour guide that was really awesome to listen to. The tour itself isn't that much to run home about. You see some distiller's beer, but nothing else, really. It's about like any other distillery tour you can expect to take. The tasting included 3 bourbons, which is good. If I'm paying for a tour, I hope and expect to have at least 3 samples. If you only give us 2 or fewer, then you're being stingy, in my opinion. Unless of course you only make 2 or fewer bourbons. Then that's understandable. Anyhow - worth the visit if you're in the area and have some time to spare. Decent price for a tour. I wouldn't go out of my way to visit. There are better options around. read more

This review is based on two encounters with security at the gate, only. This was because the two times we came, we could not get in because The Visitor Center was not open. Okay, so the website may or may not have the Gift Shop listed as being open on Wednesdays but when the guard tells us it "is" open on Thursday and that it opens at 7am, then we would have hoped to not have been stopped a second day in a row to only be disappointed at 8:15am after driving all the way back out there. Terrible communication from the employees and poor management of business hours or updating the hours. read more

We had the cutest tour guide. And while we generally enjoyed the 7th or 8th tour during our Bourbon Trail adventure, this is the one we decided we didn't really care about that coveted tee shirt when you fill out your passport. It was HOT in the room ... like 110 degrees hot. So we bypassed the next planned stop of Four Roses. Also, my bourbon loving spouse didn't even finish his tasting menu, much less mine which is the norm. And I generally eat his chocolate, but they didn't taste chocolate, even though Art Edibles does a Wild Turkey truffle and they sell it in the gift shop. Marketeers...take note. I'd be lying if I told you that Wild Turkey was one of the sites I was most looking forward to while my wife & I spent a week on the bourbon trail. Well it absolutely should've been at the top because it turned out being one of our favorite spots. We did the Born from the Barrell tour and our guide did such an amazing job of explaining the process and history of their operation that I learned more in that hour+ than I had in any of the other tours/tasting experiences we enjoyed going through. I forget his name but he's a credit to his craft, that's for sure. Touring the original rick/rack house really brought the history to life. And the quality of bourbon & rye during the tasting was exemplary. Not a bad entry in the bunch. And getting to say hello & thanks to Jimmy Russell while he was in the building added an extra personal touch to the whole experience. I sincerely hope we're able to get back down for another visit here one of these days! read more

We visited Louisville area to hit some bourbon distilleries over the course of a couple days. We did most of them as part of our tour with Kentucky Bourbon Boys, but hit Wild Turkey on our way en route to spending our final 24 hours in Lexington. I've always assumed Wild Turkey was just a cheap bourbon and never thought about it beyond that. I was wrong. As we pulled into the grounds, which were expansive, we started to realize we were probably in for a treat. We parked at the visitor's center, which from the outside appeared to be a very nice building. But when we walked inside, we were blown away. They spent a lot of money on this building and it showed. Their staff greeted us the moment we stepped in the door and everyone was so friendly. They have a retail area, an outdoor area and a GORGEOUS tasting room with views of the nearby bridge and river. We didn't have a lot of time but inquired about doing a tasting. It's probably not something they typically promote, but they were flexible with us and allowed us to do just the tasting without the tour. My group sampled four bourbons and they all commented that everything was so good that it was difficult to pick a favorite! This experience changed my opinion of Wild Turkey bourbon and we were all so appreciative of their hospitality and flexibility. I'm rating 4 stars because I didn't personally participate in the tasting and am posting on guidance from those who did. I got a small taste of the Rye and Honey Liqueur from my husband's tasting which were both very good. Next time we're down we're going to make time for a tour! read more

Wild Turkey has a very new visitor's center which is one of the best looking spaces on the bourbon trail. It features a medium-sized gift shop with some nice items and plenty of bottles of Wild Turkey's standard lineup. Rather than taking another tour -- five or six stills in three days is enough for anyone -- we headed over to their small tasting bar. There, anyone can have a chance to try a few of their rarer expressions without being forced to march around for an hour first. The bar offered a pretty great deal: pours were between $10 and $14, but each one came with the rocks glass. I'd recommend this option rather than going through a tour, unless you haven't had any Wild Turkey before or this is your first stop on the bourbon trail. We opted for a $12 pour of Russell's Reserve -- which would be that much in almost all bars, without the souvenir glass -- and a $14 pour of W.B. Saffeld, a special edition that I'd never seen before. Both were excellent. There are a lot of other options to try as well. read more

What I enjoyed the most was getting a 101 signed by Jimmy and returned the next day to snag a 70th Anniversary bottle along with a Masters Keep Voyage. However, didn't feel like the Russell's Connoisseur tasting was worth the $52.00. The only real special sips was the 13 year and the pours were just a whisper. read more

Having lived in Kentucky for a few years we've gone on many a bourbon tour. Wild Turkey did not disappoint! The best part of Wild Turkey for me was honestly the architecture of the main visitors center and the breathtaking view of the Kentucky river from the second floor tasting room and outdoor patio area. The distillery was easy to find, and had plenty of parking. We took the full tour with tasting for $10 a person. The tour was prompt, our tour guide very friendly, and was extremely knowledgeable about the product. The only negative I have is that there were no snacks during the bourbon tasting! We were impressed with the staff at Wild Turkey. They were friendly and helpful. Our tour guide, Bo, was really knowledgable. The tour was exceptional which took us through the fermentation process, a look at the stills and especially the 125-year old rick house.The tour ends up in their special tasting room where we tasted four of their products, including the honey, the 101 and the rye 101. We also spent some time in the gift shop where they have all kinds of very nice quality products. Take some time to enjoy the setting which is so beautiful with the visitors center that overlooks the winding Kentucky River. A must stop on the trail. read more

Wild Turkey is an awesome site to visit! Take your pick - amazing views, fine bourbon, friendly staff, and quality tours. Wild Turkey is where legends live! Home of Jimmy and Eddie Russell, who if you don't know, you will. They are legends in the bourbon industry. The visitors center is one of the best around (it's literally won awards for design). The views of the old rail bridge out back of the visitors center are breathtaking. Then, there's the bourbon. Wild Turkey is a highly underrated bourbon, and I suspect they somewhat like it that way. Wild Turkey is no longer just the bourbon your granddad drank on hunting trips (don't get me wrong, it's still that too, ha!). Wild Turkey's mash is a wonderful balance between sweet and spicy. They use corn and rye in their standard mash, which results in a sweet mellow taste with a complexity of spice on the back end from the rye. They age in deep charred barrels for 6 years (longer than a lot of competitors) which creates wonderful notes of vanilla, oak, and slight butterscotch. Enough of my digression. If your mouth is not watering by now, go visit and see for yourself. read more

Wild Turkey has been a top destination for me to visit for a long time. Wild Turkey 101 has remained consistent, simple, and cheap for years. The drink is dependable and can always be counted on. With that, I can tell you I was excited to make it here over the holiday! My only complaint(and it seems others had the same issue from their reviews)... the staff up front selling tour/tasting tickets weren't exactly that friendly. I can forgive that as they deal with lots of people every single day, but the other side of me says, "Wait a second. You're one of the larger distilleries. People come from all over the world to visit. Make KY proud." While waiting on the tours to start, you can look around the gift shop and take a trip down their visitor center hallway. They built that visitor center a few years ago and it is a nice addition. It's filled with Wild Turkey history. Small fun facts to special edition bottles... it has a lot of information to pass the time and learn about. You spend some time on a bus for this tour. They drive you from building to building. Don't worry... the bus has seat belts. Safety first! Wild Turkey is much larger than I thought it was. Overall it's a great tour. It covers all the bases if you're not familiar with the process... fermenting, distillation, aging, and you even get to see a promo with Matthew Mcconaughey. You also get to see the tasting/sensory room. It's similar to Maker's, but much larger. It also seems to be more organized. I kept hoping to turn a corner and run into Jimmy Russell. I know he's there almost every day, but since it was during the holidays I don't think he came on that day. I'll get there mid-summer to see if I can run into him. On a more serious note, Jimmy has been at it for 60+ years. I hope that his son keeps up Jimmy's work ethic and quality product once Jimmy is gone. At the end of the tour there is a tasting. We were given Rare Breed, WT Honey, and two others. I do wish they'd replace one of those with WT101 Rye or something. Rare Breed is good, but they should've kept it at the lower proof. I know all the bourbon brands want to promote their flavored stuff. Maybe putting it on the tasting list at the distillery is a better way to promote it, but it seems like a huge waste of time. In this situation, I'm not sure why they didn't put the Honey Sting on the list to try. The chance of someone trying that one is much lower than the WT Honey that you see everywhere. Overall I'd go back. The bus ride and large group encourages more small talk between strangers on the tour than at other places. Side notes: -- They have some cool gift shop items. I plan to go back for a few of them. -- 4 things to taste during the tasting. -- You get a cool Wild Turkey glass with your tasting. -- The tour lasts 45-60 minutes(approximate). -- One of the warehouses had one of those paranormal shows film in it. -- This tour isn't as hands on. You look at the stills through glass. You look at the sensory room through glass. The mash is off limits... you can only look. No dipping your hand in the mash here. read more

We arrived late in the morning after a snowfall, it was beautiful! We parked and walked into the visits center and "WOW IS THAT JIMMY RUSSELL?!?!" Yup, Jimmy Russell was there with his lovely wife saying hello, taking pictures, and signing autographs! Time for the tour, Shelby was our guide and while she had 51% corny jokes she was really a friendly and made the tour fun. Afterwards we went to the tasting room where they had set out a nice variety of bourbon to try. The view from that room is stunning, and not to be missed.! I apologize for ever believing that Wild Turkey was a lower rate bourbon. Because y'all, it is absolutely top notch! And I just...really like it. By now, I have been to Wild Turkey four times. Twice for regular distillery tours, once with a premium warehouse tour, and once as part of a super-secret volunteer day where I helped deliver frozen turkeys to every home in Lawrenceburg AND met Wild Turkey spokesman Matthew McConnaughey. All were pretty great! The regular distillery tours are worth the money. It is interesting, the grounds are clean, it is accessible (you are people-moved around the property on buses), and the tour guides have been great! The gift shop/information center/tasting space at the end of your tour must be a newer building. But is gorgeous and clean, and backed with a full-window wall, you get a great view of the river and surrounding area. I have been impressed with these tours each time. It is absolutely worth your time, and as they are one of the more reasonably priced distillery tours, certainly worth your money. The premium warehouse tour though....not my favorite. We did not plan ahead and came on a whim on a holiday weekend because we also wanted to visit a nearby winery as well. We tried to look online the night before to see if tours were available, but you can't book OR see if there are any openings within 48 hours of the day. We tried calling several times the next day as we were on our way in to Lawrenceburg. No one ever answered. When we went in and heard that only the warehouse tour had available spots, we thought 'sure, why not?' Well, instead of the $11/person we expected to pay, the premium warehouse tour is $20/person. This gets you the shorter tour and 5 samples, rather than the usual 4, and of the higher priced stuff. We got bussed to one of the older rickhouse buildings for the tour portion. I say "tour" because that is what it is called, but the "tour" lasted all of 7 minutes with very little information before we climbed back on to the bus to be taken to the old visitor's center building to do our tasting. I will say, yes, it was cool to get to taste Decades and 101 Rye and Rare Breed (my favorite of theirs) and....two others I can't remember because this tour isn't even listed on their website. But I was honestly a bit bored and a little disappointed. Truthfully, if I had known this "tour" would be 85% tasting and only 15% tour, we probably would have just gone to the winery. So overall: -It is a great spot on the bourbon trail. -Stick with the REGULAR distillery tour. -Weekends and summer holidays, you should try and plan more than 2 days ahead and get tour reservations. read more

Wow, Wild Turkey is a lot bigger distillery than I imagined. They make so bourbon much each day, their facilities have to match their production. The grounds are beautiful and you take a bus to the other buildings and rick house. There's also a small bar on the 1st floor of the visitor center for specific cocktails mixed with their bourbon products. I did think that tours were a bit rushed as I wanted a bit more time (and explanation) at each station. Otherwise, the whole experience was quick and seamless. read more

High volume distillery that put out large quantities of bourbon. Let's get one thing straight -- all bourbon is whiskey, but not all whiskey is bourbon. Bourbon tastes stronger and sweeter than other whiskeys. That's because it's distilled from a key ingredient: corn. Bourbon is America's native spirit, and 95% of it comes from Kentucky. So yes, bourbon is whiskey -- the best kind (at least we think so). To call your bourbon Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey it must be aged in new, charred oak barrels for at least 2 years and be made in Kentucky. This is on the Kentucky Bourbon trail and a must see distillery, so you can compare a large scale operation to some of the smaller volume distilleries. read more
