The initial impression as you pull into Wild Turkey is that this is a manufacturing and industrial site first and foremost. While that does take away from the initial "wow factor" as a guest, it is understandable. Once you get past that, you arrive at the visitor center, which has a view that is absolutely incredible and outdoor amenities that would make hanging out there quite enjoyable. Unfortunately, the inside experience at the gift shop left much to be desired. We did not do the tour, so this is only based on the visitor center and retail experience. Upon entering, we were greeted by a friendly face and directed toward the gift shop. The bartender was friendly, but the other three employees had their heads buried in their phones and did not seem concerned with our experience or offering help. While that may not be unexpected in some places, at a location like this, especially after visiting Buffalo Trace earlier in the day, it felt very subpar. The bottle selection on the shelf was fairly standard and did not feel much different from what I could find at a local liquor store. Some prices also seemed higher than local shops. Of the 15+ bottles we purchased today, none were from here. We considered trying a flight or a few samples, but the prices felt more reminiscent of a downtown bar than a distillery tasting experience. While we were not on a budget, the feeling of being overcharged deterred us from moving forward with the samples we had been interested in. I will not say that I would never go back, but I would not put this at the top of our Bourbon Trail list either, unless maybe for the views and a picnic.

The atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and the perfect place to relax and enjoy some great bourbon. What really stood out was the kindness of the staff. Our bar waitress went above and beyond by making sure our young boys felt included, even sharing a special drink with them so they could be part of the experience. That thoughtful gesture meant so much to our family. We love the beautiful setting, friendly service, and convenient location right along our route home. The distillery experience…read moreis top-notch--we did the tour and tasting and loved the unique "thieve your own bottle" straight from the barrel. It doesn't get more authentic than that. The staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, and you can tell they really care about what they're doing. The whole property adds to the charm--beautiful views, a relaxed atmosphere, and even some animals wandering around that make it feel like a true Kentucky experience. As a Harvest Hosts location, it's one of the best we've stayed at. Plenty of space, peaceful setting, and just an all-around great place to spend the night after enjoying some bourbon. Highly recommend whether you're stopping in for a tasting or staying overnight--you won't be disappointed.

Tasting and to our surprise we got a keepsake taster and got to taste from 5 barrels direct all the whiskeys were good with 3 out of the 5 being options for us to bottle. You are able to fill your own bottle of whiskey from any of the barrels which was definitely an experience. Compared to other distilleries, I thought the pricing was definitely worth it for the bottle. The tasting on the other hand was a little overpriced but for us it was still very worth it and one of our favorite distilleries all weekend. Lastly, the Photo Booth was a nice touch and made the experience that much more enjoyable! Overall, I would recommend any and everyone to check out Whiskey Thief if you are looking for a unique experience on the trail. Please note, I did not take a tour so I'm not sure what that would be like. It is included with your tasting admission.

There were ladies cleaning the outside windows at the log cabin. The staff were very friendly, helpful, and seemed to like their jobs. They allow dogs on the property and inside when making a purchase/taste testing. They gave our dogs treats and the staff welcomed them in. The property is beautiful and great to take dogs on a walk. We enjoyed our day and may go back tomorrow depending on the specials!!

I could've stayed there sampling all day. Unfortunately, we didn't have time for a full tour, but the tasting experience more than made up for it. The line into the gift shop was a little long (as expected at a popular spot), but it was well organized and moved quickly. The staff was friendly and helpful throughout. I ended up leaving with several excellent bottles to haul back to California--definitely worth the drive and the extra weight in the car! If you're a bourbon fan, Buffalo Trace is a must-stop. This place is quite small, and just a warning only one bathroom. It's pretty congested by the bathroom door, and there isn't really anywhere good to wait. This could be difficult for someone with disabilities. Service was on the slow side, but very friendly. We tried the smashburger Kentucky style, and the smoked fried bologna. Both were good, and we would definitely return when in the area to try something else too. There's an outdoor area with some picnic tables, cornhole, and chalk for kids to write on the sidewalks.
