Just be prepared when heading to this bar because people come here to PARTY and let loose. You'll have a much better time if you come with a group. It's no secret that our hero has very low standards for the bars that he visits. As a sketchy dive bar in the unexplored dirty south, Wild Wooley's was no exception. Our hero could tell by the dress code posted by the back door that Wild Wooley's was a place where you should watch your step. DRESS CODE: -------------------- - No gang related tattoos - No tattoos above the neck - No gang related clothing - No mens tank tops -------------------- After such a rigid and classy dress code, it's a bit strange how there's no door man at either of the two entrances to the bar. PROS: - The beer selection is actually kind of decent for a dive bar. Stella, Guinness, Sam Adams and quite a few taps are available beyond the standard Miller and Bud. - They have a private parking lot in the back. CONS: - Although the bartender will tell you "everything's cheap", a pitcher of Tecate for $14 isn't exactly "cheap". Everything is fairly moderately priced, which is kind of strange for a bar of this caliber. - By the way, don't use the word "caliber" in the bar... it seems to have some gang problems. So upon entering, be prepared to hand your ID to the security guy and stand behind the yellow line and look at the camera for about 10 seconds. They take a picture of your whole body and then your face and then your ID... You know, in case you stab someone hahaa. So the atmosphere is pretty chill, its a typical dive bar. However the prices were a bit much for the place. I drank vodka/juice and long islands which were $7.50 each. They also have those small bags of chips behind the bar so that's cool... then high tops and pool tables. I know what everyone says about this bar, but sometimes you need a lil hood in your life, I've got a usual drinking spot but most of the patrons are a bit uppity so I figured last night I'd go somewhere where I could get into random drunk convos with strangers, and hear some rap/hip hop. What I got last night was not what I expected. I got there and there wasn't many people BUT the jukebox was playing randomly and we were getting all kinds of hits from Metallica to Snoop.....and the bartender was really nice. Then the "dj" got there.......completely killed it for me. We went from Metallica and Snoop to some stupid dancey 80s music. Yeah I didn't come to WW's to listen to sh*tty 80s music. Wild Wooleys is a cute fun spot. A small bar with 4 pool tables and one of the most packed bars on Friday nights in the area. Casual dress, large beer and stiff drinks are the big pluses. It caters to a large Hispanic community on weekends. The staff is sociable, plenty of security and decent amount of attractive Hispanic women. (Or men if that's your thing) The main downside to the bar is its criminal activity catering to former/current gangsters. Onsite Drug deals. The almost nonstop fighting, and its a racially charged atmosphere. This is not the bar you go to with your out of town college buddies. Rumors of shooting and stabbings are a dime a dozen. Wild Wooleys is the place to go when your just looking to try something new, and unique, get tired of Orange County college kids in Downtown and PB. Ages = 21-37 A first bar for most Chula Vista 21 year olds. Drinks = Large Women = Decent and not as snobby Men = Scary arrogant bald headed dorks Crowd = Fridays packed business on weekdays too Staff = Always nice, but once your out your out for good. Violence level = Super high on Friday, just back down they will just fight someone else and get kicked out :) I will warn anyone who is not familiar with the bar. This is not the place to come alone or with macho buddies with a chip on their shoulder. They already have enough of those clowns looking for guys like you, your not going to get stabbed walking through the door, but if your on a mission to box. This is a slightly sketchy looking bar for which I had low expectations. I walked into this place on a Sunday night with low expectations. The bar itself is quite decently designed with several pool tables, TVs, and a nice selection of beers on tap. However at the moment, the types of beers they had eludes my mind. Went there a while back on a Saturday night in October. We went early for pre-game until we figured out we were going for the night. I had heard several things about this place, mainly that it's GHETTO but being the curious thing I am, I said' f@ck it let's see what's this place is all about'. I was amazed to see a table set up with a birthday tablecloth and balloons (wtf, someone celebrating here?) It was ok when I was there but we did notice a different crowd getting there as we were leaving at about 10 (a couple of pelones, some chicks with painted on eyebrows). While I enjoy my 2 hour getting ready process, it was kind of liberating to be ready in 10 minutes. There were girls trying to "keep it classy", but any pretense of classy goes out the door when the bouncer fingerprints and strip searches you to get in (kidding). That said...I actually like this place. It reminds me of the the hip hop clubs in the bay in the late 90's, before everyone was trying to front like Kanye. (For most, buying bottles at the club doesn't make you look rich, it just makes you look overextended). I've heard alot of "stories" about gang activity and fights happening here. Didn't really see much of any of that. The bouncers did pat you down before coming in. Which is a sign, shit probably has gone down before here. The crowd was chill and good mix of people. Pool tables, Foos Ball and Internet Jukebox. What you expect at a bar like this. Well yes I'll say this place is ghetto. I'm embarrassed to walk in the place and I pray to walk out safely. But if you go at a good time, then everyone is having a good time. I use to go to school in the Chula Vista area and have seen tons of old friends all the way back to elementary school. I thought it was cheap when I first started to go, but then after awhile, I noticed how expensive it gets, for a place considered a dive bar. One night I spent close to $100 on a few shots and pitchers. But other then that the bartenders are cool and mostly everyone that goes there is going to be cool with you. I would recommend going with people who are not gangsters and don't get stupid when they get drunk. And I would recommend not getting drunk at all, just getting a few pitchers of beer. read more

Say what you want about this place but I had a GREAT time this last Thursday. I came with a group of friends and yes the bouncer at the door searched me before going and and checked my ID but everything was done gracefully and without malice. They had a live dj spinning nothing but hip hop which was refreshing. There was around 4 pool tables and people were friendly about taking turns. On to the drinks, wow the cups they serve beer in have to be AT LEAST 24oz. They had an impressive tap selection. The beer was fresh and poured correctly. The bartender also told me it was 3$ Thursday for well drinks. The people in the bar did look a bit sketchy, but if you just minded your own business no one messed with you. Was anybody there last night on Sat 10-23-10???? I saw 2 guys getting beat down by 7 other guys....that's not a fair fight especially when one of the security guards must have given them a baton and they were smashing down on the 2 guys. I also noticed that the security kept spraying mace everywhere and we were trying to stay away since he was spraying it only at the 2 guys and not the other 7 guys fighting. Wild Wooly's is also known as Spartan-graduate hangout. People I never thought I would see after graduating high school come to this bar. Crazy right? Well it is when you both spot each other and neither of you say anything. Why? Because both of you are too proud to make the first move. Lame! Drinks are cheap and strong. Crowd varies from ex-gangsters, pretty boys (and girls) and other. For the most part they're cool, but the occasional fight breaks out from time to time. I love WW! This is 5 stars for the dive bar category. It is a safe comfortable place for people with an open mind that are non-judgemental. Don't think you are going to come here and put on your airs. This is just a chill place! For everyone saying it is just for cholos and all that gang stuff....please! There are many people there from all walks of life.....blue collar and white collar alike. There are a lot of professionals who go here that are open-minded enough to know that just because they have a degree they are no different than the blue collar man or woman sitting next to them at the bar. I agree with some of the reviews here. Drinks are good, I like the bar, very chill and the atmosphere is cool...on the weekdays! Come friday and saturday and this place is packed. You'll be waiting forever to get a drink at the bar. And like Jeff C. said, if you can't handle your alcohol, be careful because a fight will break out. I much rather go here on a weekday to have a few beers, I like to chill and be able to enjoy my drink, not be surrounded by drunk people. Well I am writing this because my ex is a regular I have to comment on this. I was picking up my daughter at 1 am and my ex lives literally caddy corner from this place. There was a shooting and someone got hurt. Now if anyone thinks this a place to go then grow up and realize this is a place to stay away from. Every time I go around I always had a bad feeling and I always told the ex to stay away from this place. He did tell me to park on the other side because he had a bad feeling because of the bar and look at that he was right! I advise stay away on the weekends if u dont want to get shot! read more

Not the best place to end up after a night of drinking. I've heard and experienced many stories about the place and they weren't that pretty. Two different occasions that I've come here my car was broken into. The bar itself isn't a big help when it comes to those situations either. They didn't have cameras to rely on. Not to mention someone getting shot here and dying. A lot of the people who come here are looking to start trouble or have anger issues. I've seen fights break out. Maybe the bartenders don't know when someone's had enough to drink. Downtown is the best bet if you're looking to have a good time with no problems or broken car windows. read more

I would say that this place is an Up Scale Dive Bar. Fri and Sat are the best times to go. Wolly's looks shadey but its not that bad. If you are into UFC, you can watch it there, but be ready for it to be packed. The DJ play some kick a$$ jams on the weekend and it will get jamed packed. I'm going to miss this place!!!! read more

How else are you going to make people feel secure. Another bad thing is the restrooms they need remodeling. Oh well. I don't spend too much time in the restroom myself so that's not something I am too concerned with. Back to the review. Let's take a look at where woolly's is at. South Bay now let's compare it to other dive bars. Archway not cool enough, Stoneys not the same feel it's not off the strip, it's not a place anyone can just land, you have to get to know where it is, paisa bar 1 through 10, and Diamond Jims (it's like a wanna be tequila sunrise in Tijuana you know bar, night club though no dress code for south bay) star gazer that's bad, Plum Crazy/Plum Loco/ and now N Ciiiiiiityyyyyy! (enough said) lol I think you get it. The Tavern, and Wild Wings etc well those are franchise names with franchise prices, food and drinks. Not a bad thing but when we are talking about independent establishments then for what is a dive bar in south bay, where one can get the coldest drinks, at very reasonable prices, and sizes. To play pool, relax with your friends with enough space, be on a main street where anyone can drop in and check it out, One of the best features here is the jukebox allowing you to control the music, it's one of those which can grab music from online so you will always find what you are looking for. The bartenders are great too. They are all fun, good looking, and serve you with a smile, they will even share laughs which gives one a good feeling. Unlike the akward bartenders on their phones in other places etc. Brooke was our bartender the last few times we've been there, and we've come with different friends. I can honestly say she's one of the friendlier ones, and really makes the crowd feel at home, and would even remember what we were having. That is great when things pick up and the crowd gets going. First time here. You will be patted down, and digitally photographed at the entrance. Security is intense for a dive bar and they seemed overly paranoid. They do not make you feel welcome. I was told there are lots of fights here, The crowd wasn't very social and I could imagine many altercations physical or verbal happening between people for no good reason. So now the good points. I Had fun playing pool. The DJ was cool and played some great hip hop tracks. The Bartenders are Beautiful, fantastic, friendly and fast. to bring you drinks.
