Dropped in here for cocktails as Expatriate was unexpectedly closed. The cocktails were really really great, and priced extremely fairly- who makes artisanal cocktails in the single digits nowadays?! What a steal. Our server was also very very lovely. The reason for the star downgrade was because of some anti-law enforcement graffiti in their outdoor tent. This was all that was displayed, so it felt like a conscious choice. I get it, law enforcement and the police are not popular nowadays- but being okay with violent rhetoric on either side of the debate isn't cool, which is what messages like this infer. My wife and I stopped in here on a late Saturday afternoon because we were in the area and wanted to get a drink. The cocktails were excellent and the food smelled so good we decided to eat as well. It was happy hour, so we decided to take advantage of the discount on food and have an early dinner. We ordered the burger to split and it was so good we ordered a second burger because we both wanted more. The Wilder Burger is easily one of the best burgers we've had in Portland. So good that everybody should eat here just to try the burger. We are planning to go back and try more of their food options. This was the perfect restaurant after a long flight from NH. The atmosphere was happy hour with good service and amazingly delicious food. Some of the best fried chicken we've had! The burger, Bean burger over polenta, and fried chicken left us wanting to take the entire restaurant home with us when we returned to NH. The quality of the food required us to order dessert. Sadly disappointed in my experience at Wilder. My friends and I visited the other night for dinner. We arrived around 6:30 and were put on a waitlist even though much of the restaurant was empty. I realize the interior is rather small, but there were open tables available. We waited over an hour for our table. Once we were finally seated, we ordered the fried broccoli as an appetizer. It was probably the only part of the meal that I enjoyed. The broccoli had a bit of spice and came with a side of remoulade. In addition, I liked the fried lemon wedges paired with the broccoli. I decided on the fried chicken as my main course. My chicken was not juicy and was rather dry. Overcooked. It also came with a small drizzle of the honey Dijon glaze. I was expecting more glaze. I ended up dipping the chicken in our left over remoulade because it was so dry. My chicken came with a side of small potatoes. The potatoes were also just OK, nothing special. I give up. Too many bad experiences with the wait staff--who cannot be bothered to wait on you. Sat with my undercooked burger for over an hour, and no one asked--or even came to our table of 6 to check. Had to holler a couple times for help, and we were not able to all order our drinks at one time because of the no-eye contact thing. And don't even think about asking to sit where you want to sit. You will be punished. Not the neighborhood joint I wanted to make my go-to place. And the 4 new people we invited to meet us there--they won't be back either. I don't get it. read more

Don't go in after 9:24 pm. Got off work, knew they were closing @10 but last seating isn't until 10.? Walked in to the bartender looking at me pissed. Sorry you're open and I wanted to eat. Being in the industry I know better than to take my time, so I ordered right away and pay. But her coldness was unacceptable. I have people come in three minutes before close and give them the decency any paying customer deserves. This has happened twice now, it's easy to smile and get a tip. Do your job and do it until the end of your shift. Also there was a very nice server who was polite and said goodbye, think she was new. It was over 80 degrees today so outdoor seating was full, however we were seated inside near the door so it was just fine. My friend ordered a mixed tequila drink and I had their old fashioned. Had a wonderful meal at Wilder last night. We started out with fried broccoli and an order of fries. The dipping sauces were really tasty and our wonderful server, Corrinthea, even suggested some of their fresh made chimichurri, which was delicious. I had heard good things about their vegan burger and it did not disappoint. I usually do not order vegan options but I'm so glad I did. Their house made vegan patty was SO GOOD. I ordered it with the polenta bun and it was a good call. Both the patty and the polenta were crispy on the outside and warm and soft on the inside. Our group of 6 ended up at Wilder tonite after being given the cold shoulder at Gabbiano's. The staff were super accommodating, friendly w a welcomed dash of sass & helpful. I'd go back because of the service even if the food & drinks weren't so good-which they are. It's a limited menu, but every dish we all ordered was great. One in our party was celebrating a birthday & the staff concocted an amazing desert w a candle. The prices are exceptionally reasonable, the drinks great & a decent beer & wine menu. A simple, understated corner bar that has a limited, but well-crafted menu to choose from. In other words, they do a few things and they do it well. It's first and foremost, a bar, so it's dimly lit, cozy, and a great place to get a bite to eat. The staff was friendly and the people around us seemed happy with their drinks and conversation. We happened to be there at happy hour, so we got $4 off of our burgers. Great deal, right? I had to adapt my burger (no bun) to my current diet (which includes bacon - YESS!), while my husband had all the goodies on his, and a side of fries -- he said he loved his meal and would definitely go back for the burger. He said it was perfectly cooked and well-seasoned. :) The salad that came with mine was a very basic arugula salad, dressed well. Since I'm gluten free, it was suggested that my burger patty be served over their polenta cake, which turned out to be pretty tasty, so I had to commend them on such a clever solution! The was flavorful and juicy, made medium with cheese and bacon. Yeah, not the healthiest (let's not forget about my huge arugula salad), but damn, was it good! I stayed at an Airbnb across the street from here and came two nights in a row, it was so good. I had the broccoli and cheddar soup and kale and chickpea Caesar salad both nights, they were both utterly delicious. I NEED the recipe for the soup. And the salad was 10/10 delish. The staff was so incredibly friendly and talked to me while I was sitting at the bar on my own, as well as recommended great cocktails. He has an Irish accent and puts off a pleasant-enough vibe, but he treats you like you're lucky to be there. End up coming here for dinner after a flight back home. Cute little spot. On street parking. We were greeted immediately. Service was super friendly, but super slow, even though they weren't packed. The majority of the inside tables weren't filled. I guess if I were in to meet up with an old friend and needed extra time to catch up, then perhaps this would be an awesome venue, given its pace. We became extremely tired from the wait. The food we had was subpar at best. We had their special- mussels with fries. The fries were drowning in the tomato based sauce that came with the muscles. I don't like my fries soggy. We also had their burger, which looked nothing like the other post. It arrived to us as open face...the top bun was missing. Their burger was just a little bigger than a slider. Their ketchup seemed to be made in house, given it tastes more like marinara sauce, which I can appreciate to a degree for its uniqueness. Love this neighborhood spot. We got there around 6:30 on a summer Thursday night and it was very busy. It took less than 10 minutes to be seated and order drinks. The red wine is simple and good. We had the delicious and bright simple greens salad. Then shared the fried broccoli- which is gluten free. They also bread sliced lemon and fry it (which is very good). The fried broccoli was amazing. Finally we split the gluten free fried chicken breasts. Soooo good! This was more than enough food for me and my husband. This is a great neighborhood gastropub.
