Such a great space with immaculate vibes. As a vegetarian, I loved all the veggie/vegan options and the staff were all so sweet and attentive. Can't believe I hadn't been here sooner, will definitely be back.

Delicious and moist chicken with well crafted cocktails. One of my first bar reviews here on yelp writing this seems hard to manage, I mean it's rotisserie chicken like how good can it be? Well for one thing it was absolutely delicious and moist, they also give a side of tortillas and a verde salsa that has a nice subtle heat that doesn't overpower the taste of the chicken. If I could describe the food here in one word it would definitely be solid. I didn't have any complaints really and the ambiance of the bar sold the vibes. The bartender and server were attentive despite being overwhelmed with the business and bustling Friday night. Overall a delightful experience, not quite divey but also not dicey at all. Tasty food and refreshing drinks!

Came in for a couple of drinks with friends. Absolutely loved the atmosphere. It's dark and cozy. Decorated beautifully for Christmas. Drinks came out frosty cold which made it soooo refreshing! We did not order food, but the table next to us did and the smell was so distracting. It smelled so delicious! I would love to come back and try their food. The rotisserie chicken threw me off to see it on the menu, but I would be down to try it. Go earlier, it got so packed and people were waiting around for tables to open up when we left. We were told to find a table before ordering when we got there.

    Their too sweet margarita

I wouldn't recommend their margarita ( too sweet ) but would recommend this place as a whole!!!! Really really loved the seasonal churro chicory espresso martini ( I'll have what she's having) which is no longer on the menu for now, but I hope they bring it back because it was delicious!! Very very interesting take on the traditional espresso martini with the substitution of repesado tequila instead of vodka . I also enjoyed my vegan walking taco. Definitely a great place to meet up with friends. They have live music some nights. Also walking distance to another very cool retro arcade game. Parking wasn't so bad as well on a Sunday night. And I would definitely be back the next time I'm in Portland. Shout out to Felix, who took care of me and all of the lovely people that I met at the bar that night. In short, very very very cool place And woman owned . I found out this is also somehow connected to Dirty pretty and hey love which I will also be checking out very very soon.

Great vibe, fantastic service, and the food was delicious. Big portions, lots of flavor and in a really cute neighborhood. Thanks for the great experience. Will be back.

Had a delicious meal at LaVerne's! Their specialty is the rotisserie chicken that the group really enjoyed. On the vegetarian side, I ordered the potato & soyrizo taco and the walking taco with vegan chili, which were both delicious! The food comes out as it's ready rather than all at once. The employees were hustling and so friendly. The decor and vibe is retro 50's diner. It's a fun and unique addition to the Woodlawn neighborhood. It will be a spot we keep coming back to.

Charming 70's vibe in a large space. They make their own rotisserie chicken here and it's delicious. Order at the bar where service is quick and friendly.

This review hurts to write because la Vernes wasn't awful by any means, but it wasn't great. When I first sat at the bar. My bartender was very relaxed and engaged. He explained the menu extremely well. He made me feel very comfortable. I ordered the salad to start ( not the cucumber salad) it was delicious!!! Big portion, light crispy lettuce that wasn't brown or wilted at all. Pretty much a perfect TexMex type salad. Also ordered a mezcal sour which was made very well. This is when the night changed. My bartender/ server all the sudden was gone. He went on break. I noticed that the bartender who was now serving me was not paying any attention. It almost felt like the bartenders had bar sections. Like left side , middle and right side were split between each other. Leaving me staring into the abyss for service. I then ordered the half chicken. I can get into details but I'll keep it short and not so sweet. The chicken was not rested enough. Very chewy to start. Not very flavorful or mind melting. The vegan black beans were way over salted. And I love salt! So if it's too salty for me. It's too damn salty. The corn tortillas are served in a parchment paper wrap, they should be wrapped in tin foil so they are moist and not aldente. The corn tortillas kinda sucked. The chicken is also served with a lot of cilantro. Which is awesome but I would love to see some picked veggies and definitely better corn tortillas. The highlight of this entire night was the verde salsa. I'm grew up on the border of US and Mexico and this verde was absolutely mind blowing. Would have been awesome with some chips as a starter. My bartender ended up coming back and gave me great service again. Even gifted me a free brownie at the end. Top notch brownie. I've noticed when parents brin kids in and the kids love the chicken.. means it's not seasoned enough. (Palette discussion ensued) All in all. The prices were good, the food and service might need a little love. Still a great spot to play some pool and get a decent bite to eat. Give it a 7/10 .

Cool vibes, great food. Went here with a large group (10+) and sat out front. Inside space was big and packed but food service was relatively speedy. Chicken was insane good, tacos were amazing, and shrimp cocktail had tasty ceviche vibes. Decor was quirky and eclectic (think hip grandpa's basement) with cool art and retro furniture. A new favorite spot in North Portland, 11/10 would recommend!

We had the honor of using Laverne's for our engagement shoot! They were so kind and so thoughtful during the whole process. The food smelled amazing the whole time all I could think about was chicken! We had a glass of whiskey and a non alcoholic sparkling rosè both were absolutely lovely. Good vibes good food good drinks everything was wonderful!!!

Lavernes has a throw back to the 70's vibe with decidedly up to date food. The nachos were great and the chicken dish looked great too.

The grilled trout with zarandeado marinade is memorable ... wonderful flavor! The burgers are good, but not necessarily a knock out that stands above other places. I tried their salmon fish and chips. It's the PNW so salmon makes good sense, and I love salmon, but I discovered that the flavor profile of salmon isn't quite right for a battered and fried fish dish like white fish are. I've had only one truly disappointing experience. I had a light appetite so I ordered their Beet and Citrus salad. I declined any protein to be added. For $18 I received a large platter with the salad literally taking up ONE HALF side of the platter as if something else was supposed to be served beside it. The chef could've easily proportionalized the size of the salad and balanced it on the plate so it looked like a complete meal. Instead, what I got almost felt like the chef was telling me that I should've ordered something else with it.
