We had a great weekend! The cabin on the river was perfect for sleeping and cooling off from the heat. It's on the small size for visiting inside, but why would you when you have a smokeless fire pit outside with an amazing view of the river? The restroom was a hike, but they were clean with nice hot showers with great water pressure. One bathroom was running low on tp. I let management know and it was attended to immediately. Speaking of management, (and staff) they all were very friendly and helpful. The ride to the tubing drop off was prompt and they helped with the tubes. Things

After getting our reservation cancelled 4 days before our trip in Michigan (the Governor wouldn't allow them to open), we turned into panic mode. We looked in Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, literally everywhere we could potentially camp. Wilderness Cove was opening for their first weekend back and thankfully had some availability! We were the first to get there (after an 11hour drive)! And they were extremely accommodating. We ended up needing an extra camp site due to the number of people we had, but it all worked out. The campground itself is pretty quiet, I didn't see any rowdy people nor did we stay up all night due to excessive noise. They sell wood and ice, so make sure you pick some up before they sell out There's full service restrooms as well as a sink near the main office for washing dishes, which was a great added bonus!! Here's the winner though!! With everything going on with COVID, they were cleaning the bathrooms THREE TIMES A DAY! Morning, afternoon, and evening they were making sure the bathrooms were sparkling! Definitely helped when showering, too! The rapids are REAL rapids. We had 5 girls in our group, and 4 of the 5 weren't interested in going again. Of course the guys went while we stayed behind. Expect to potentially flip over and lose anything you may have brought. This isn't an average float, which is why alcohol isn't allowed. Highly recommend camping here, and will definitely be back if we're ever headed to NC!

Best river to raft on. I have been on many rivers and this one is by far the best. Great price too! You will have a blast!

He also dates his staff, his former Manager Bonnie what great she cared and was always available for us 24/7 and lived onsite and when he was done with her, he fired and evicted her, she was a single mom with no place to go so she lost her housing and her job. The new manger was never available, she, and relied on the some of the resident to do her job after hours and at the same time they were allowed to break the rules and when you complained about them, she ignored it. prices went up and the residents suffered. There are no amenities for the price you pay, he doesn't give any discounts especially to Veterans, they make you pay to have a DNA test of your dog's poop if your long term. They say they are a 45 and up adults only, and they are not. The owner has party's and the people going to the party race through the parking campground along with the golf carts that do not follow the speed limit. And heaven forbid if you are a good resident who pay their site fee on time and follow the rules but have a few friends over then he evicts you, he picks and chooses who you are allowed to have visit you onsite and at your camper, has even made threats to good resident he would evict if they have them onsite again. It was equipped with a very nice fire pit and a large stack of firewood included in the price. One staff member led us to our site in a golf cart, and another was already there to guide me while backing in. I have never before had this level of parking assistance! One of our slides jammed when we tried to extend it. The owner and two or three of his staff spent at least an hour trying to help us. We didn't have any luck, but the staff recommended a local mobile RV repair guy who was on site in about an hour and solved the problem. The park's cable TV service is head and shoulders above anything else we have ever seen. The area is full of natural beauty, and there are many places to get delicious food within a five to ten minute drive. Need groceries? Publix, Ingles, and Food Lion are just 15 minutes away, and Walmart about 20 minutes. Cross Creek RV Park is a great example of Western North Carolina hospitality at it's finest!

There used to be a hydroelectric dam upstream that could control releases, but it was destroyed in Hurricane Helene. The future of the dam is uncertain. I appreciated the warm welcome we received when we arrived. We had booked online and signed all of our waivers before we got there. We reserved(rented) water shoes for several folks, as they did not have appropriate footwear. Check in, shoe selection, and safety briefing went quickly , and we were in our tubes in no time. The river was mainly calm stretches punctuated by intermittent small rapid areas. Nothing felt daunting or too dangerous. It had the right level of excitement for the kids to handle themselves. The take out was well marked. It was easy to get our tubes up to the van for the short ride back.
