We hiked to Rainbow Falls and Turtleback Falls, both of which were well worth the effort. Unfortunately, we didn't make it to Drift Falls (I'll blame the IPAs from the night before and my hiking attire). It's located on private property, but from what I've read, the views are still good. The hike is moderately challenging, so come prepared with proper footwear and plenty of water. The trails can be demanding, but the waterfalls and scenery make every step worth it.

Turns out in the high months like summer you definitely need to make reservations. Lucky for us. Somebody paid for an extra night, but drove away. The Rangers are some of the nicest I've ever met in my life. They let us have the site for free and we're friendly the entire time we were there. The space was kept incredibly clean for the amount of people that were there. And when I say amount of people that were there, I mean so many people there. This is not my jam, and I probably wouldn't return to the campground just because of the sheer velocity of other people all around us. Jampacked. I'm pretty sure at any given time you could see 10 to 15 people from your site alone. The sites did have plenty of space for a 10 and a car or multiple cars. They also had a nice set up for bath houses too. They were clean and well stocked and plentiful. We were so lucky to have a guy playing a banjo across from us and we had a nice campfire with banjo playing nearby. Bought wood from the gas station but it ended up being wet so maybe even more expensive $10 wood from this campground would've been smarter . You can walk to an amazing spot to view stars and it's a very short hike to the river. Love the nature nearby as an allowed us to get away from people want to be in the moment. Seems like people are fishing nearby.

Pretty easy, just need to know which site you want. The cost of each spot varies some. The people who greeted us at the entrance to give us our passes and let us in were very nice! FACILITIES: We stayed at camp spot #9, which had access to two outlets (which we didn't use), a picnic table, a fire pit. We were close to a communal a water spigot, bathrooms with flushing toilets and showers which had running water and were reasonably clean. My friends and I are used to backpacking, so this place felt like glamping! The only downsides are that you are required to pitch your tent on gravel (rather than grass) and that you can't wash pots in the bathrooms or with the water spigot because it's not connected to sewage lines.

The RV sites are close together, which is common but they are also a little more private feeling. They have a ton of spots by the river, which makes it really nice. The campsites seems pretty unappealing. Just a plot in the middle of a field. I do appreciate that since his place is a little more simple and rural their prices really reflected that. There are a ton of ducks everywhere because I guess people feed them. They also have a pool which is kind of nice but I didn't swim in it. You can walk to a gas station in Dollar General if needed but it's about a half a mile away. Overall is a great option in the area.

The staff is welcoming as soon as you enter the store. They helped us pick the right dry packs for our phones and we were able to purchase other gifts as well. The safety instructions and map were very helpful and the float took us a little more than 90 minutes. A warm welcome greeted us as we reached the end of our float. We loaded the bus and headed back to the starting point. I love this float because we were the only ones on the river. There was no packing of people onto the bus and unloading with a slew of others with their tubes. We had the river to ourselves and we loved it. Along the way, we were welcomed by a gentleman sitting on a porch singing a song about people floating on the river. It was memorable. As was the trip. Great time, Headwaters! We will see you again!

They have gorgeous spots right on the river and I could hear the river as I slept and it was so soothing!! The owners are wonderful people and really want campers to enjoy every aspect of their stay. They came out when we came in to help us back camper in our spot. It's very close to town like 5 min drive but felt out in country. Our spot had a picnic table and fire pit. They have a pretty good size bath house with vending machines and at as use washers and dryers which would be good for long stays! Shower stalls were individual bathrooms for privacy .. updated and very clean. We came before Halloween and it had decor for the holiday.. you could stay in camper, they had cabins, and tepees for unique stay. Most were damaged by storm but will be ready for following year. I thought that was really interesting.. i read reviews from previous years about wifi being terrible but we didn't have that issue. We didn't really spend all day at campground we came to see and spend time in the area so we were only using wifi at night and in morning with coffee. I would highly recommend this campground.. it was a great stay and I hated to leave.

If you are thinking about the Lambuth Inn, stop. Read this first…read more My husband and I are in our 60s. We travel all the time with our two small dogs. We walked up to the front desk with a dog in each of our arms. The staff looked right at them. They even joked that the dogs looked too heavy for me to carry. They handed us our keys. Not one word about a pet rule. Not one. We put the dogs in the bathroom, like we do at every hotel, and went to dinner. When we came back, our key was dead. The Lambuth Inn had locked us out of a room we had already paid for. Our dogs were trapped inside. Our medicine, our clothes, and our bags were inside. We had to go downstairs and ask for permission to get to our own things. That is when it got ugly. The staff did not apologize. They did not explain. They accused us of "sneaking" the dogs in. We had walked past them holding those dogs in plain sight. When we said so, they changed the story. Now it was "the person who checked you in did not know the rules." So they made the mistake, and then they blamed us for it, and then they punished us for it. Then they threw us out. At 9 o'clock at night. In the mountains of rural North Carolina. No refund. No offer to help. Not even a phone number for another hotel. Two people in their 60s and two little dogs, sent out into the dark with nowhere to sleep. We drove three hours back to Atlanta that night because we had no other choice. Think about that. They took our money. They locked us away from our belongings and our pets. They called us liars. Then they put us out in the dark and kept the cash. This is not a hotel policy problem. This is how they chose to treat two paying guests who did nothing wrong. And what were we paying for? A 100-year-old building that feels every bit of 100. Tired rooms, worn-out furniture, and a price tag that belongs at a much nicer place. The lake view is the only thing this inn has going for it, and a view is not worth being treated like a criminal. Please, do not give these people your money. Waynesville has much better choices that actually welcome dogs. The Waynesville Inn and Golf Club takes pets. So do the Grandview Lodge, the Yellow House on Plott Creek Road, and the Econo Lodge on Phillips Road. Any one of them will treat you like a guest instead of a problem. One star only because zero is not an option. Stay anywhere else.
