Service is MUCH quicker than the dental college and over the years I've come to know the ladies who work there. You can tell they enjoy working together. I have a sense of familiarity and comfort when I visit. I also don't know if this is something all dental practices do, but the dentist is sure to visit each patient and double check the teeth after the hygienist takes a look and cleans. I feel like I always have time to ask the questions I need to as well and they are very gentle in regards to what makes you comfortable or not. They are not pushy. Though it's not a pediatric dentist office, my 4 year old does great and has started going back on his own. Our hygienist is Tiffany and we love her bubbly personality. She always makes me feel so good about my teeth and my dental hygiene.

He's a really nice guy, very professional, kind and understanding. He's also a perfectionist with his work. Whether it be a filling for a cavity or cleaning your teeth his attention to detail is unrivaled. Even when I lived out-of-state on various home visits I'd return for my check-ups and regular cleanings. I'd probably be anxious to go anywhere else. Yet when I was in the office, the staff insisted I had to pay right then and there and even said they would "never get paid" if I didn't -- which was both untrue and manipulative, since payment had already been confirmed. During a phone call, a staff member actually said to me: "Do you even understand how we are not getting paid and how we then did this work for free?" If I was treated this way, I worry that other patients -- especially those who don't feel able to speak up -- may be experiencing the same kind of disrespect. When I mentioned I was traveling abroad, the staff used that against me, saying they had to collect immediately or else they wouldn't be able to "get a hold of me." A neutral assumption would have been: "She's traveling, she'll be back." Everyone who travels eventually comes back -- that's what made their comment so strange. But instead, their words implied suspicion -- as if I couldn't be trusted to return and pay. That assumption made me feel singled out and racially profiled. What made this especially insulting is that I had already given them my Social Security number -- the most official form of identification there is. Yet they still claimed they 'couldn't reach me.' What did they think, that it was fake? That kind of suspicion reveals not just disrespect but racial bias -- because if I were someone else, would they have made the same assumption? As if I could just vanish without consequences, when in reality I'm a responsible adult with a verifiable identity. When I found out my insurance had already paid and that the office caused the issue by using the wrong address, they didn't apologize. Instead, they made me spend three hours on the phone with my insurance to fix their mistake -- essentially treating me like their unpaid labor. It felt like they were perfectly comfortable using me for free clerical work -- and yes, it came across as racist. To add insult to injury, they even sent me a letter I had to pick up at the post office. That kind of coercive and demeaning treatment isn't just unprofessional -- it's offensive and discriminatory. At one point they told me they had 'worked for free.' The irony is that the way they treated me revealed racial bias -- because they were actually making me work for free, forcing me to clean up their mistake with my insurance after they put the wrong address on the claim. It felt like my time and dignity had no value, and that kind of treatment is exactly what discrimination looks like in a professional setting. The whole interaction was demeaning and humiliating. I also noticed the only other one-star review was from a Latino patient, which made me feel like my experience wasn't isolated. Their reply here talks about "misunderstandings" with insurance, but that doesn't excuse belittling a patient with disrespectful comments -- and it shows how out of touch they are with what really happened. If you like to have a big TV crammed in your face at the dentist, you're sure to have that wish fulfilled, too. If you like an "expert" dentist who makes all of your decisions for you, Dr. Hohlen fits the bill. However, if you feel it's your own responsibility to be informed and say yea or nay to the chemicals and treatments being put into your own and your children's mouths, this may not be the dental practice for you. Although I went in asking nicely about facts from a systematic review article, I felt pressured and felt that my voice (and the evidence) carried little weight. Next, (and this could happen anywhere, I guess) a dental hygienist called my (young!) son by the wrong name while ushering him back to a chair and waving me off as if there was no need for me to follow. We quickly sorted out the misunderstanding, but I'm glad my son didn't end up getting whatever treatments were on "Sam"'s chart! Then, I was not impressed with his manner as he brandished a large needle aimed for my needle-phobic child's mouth. I felt his manner was not suave; granted, it is hard to be suave when you're holding a large needle. But he looked at me as if he expected me to control my child into not freaking. Then he said to my child, in frustration, "You need to do whatever your doctor or dentist says." I'm sure he didn't mean that to sound so creepy. But actually, I'm teaching my children to be informed and take responsibility for their own health. Dr. Hohlen seems to hold an exactly opposite belief. (PS: It all worked out. Dental care was administered, and no lasting trauma.) Finally, he assured me that a service would be billed as "this", because "he's hoping to take care of my teeth for a long time to come," and when the bill came... it was billed as "that." This could be as simple as a miscommunication between the doc and the staff who do the billing, but still not cool. He is young, and people do learn and grow. I hope a few years from now it'll be a different story. But I wanted to write this for the information of people who do want to take responsibility for their own health choices.

Very rude, refused to give her name to me, wanted to quote me the riot act, wouldn't allow me to talk to anyone else, threatened collections, etc. etc. I just wanted too know why there was a charge and as of today, still don't know. I have several retail stores and realize the customer could be the problem just as much as the employee, but since she wouldn't allow me to talk to anyone else, I take my concern to this platform since I refuse to let this behavior go , and that's on me. I love leaving a positive review but don't want it to get so popular where I can't get a new appointment but 10/10 experience!!
