This meant we bought out daily small needs there as well. But next owners did not offer this service so we had to go to Post Office. Then the present owners took over and renamed it Sam's Market. For the longest time they had an OPEN sign on front---but the door was locked. After stopping multiple times to get last minute purchases, I just quit stopping and went to the next store down. For a while I was told, there were something like bodyguards checking people at the door at night. Seemed nefarious to me and I quit going altogether. I now rate it a 0. Too bad because this was the greatest little general store for years. Hope someone new takes over and brings it back to it's former local mkt glory.

Well, that may be a bit of an exaggeration, but five years after my first impression of the store, Im still thrilled that I live so close to a great organic grocery store. When you live in Nebraska and the closest grocery store is 45 minutes away from you, and the closest store with a moderate selection of organic products is almost 2 hours away, you really appreciate a store like this in a town like this where there are many organic options to choose from. What caught my eye that first time, and it hasnt changed over the past five years: an excellent selection of products I actually use. No having to figure out "is this organic?" when looking at the produce, where some is organic and some isnt; its all organic here. Wide aisles, sparkling floors. Staff who have become friends. Everything is so clean. Theyll special order for you. And for me, no having to drive 2 hours to find "something, anything" thats organic. Yes, there are other stores in town that offer organic choices. But for a complete selection of everything I need, from sources I trust, that I know are always going to be there, PLUS a Senior Discount Day on Thursdays and fitness club discounts on Fridays, to me Gooseberries cant be beat. Shop local, shop the independent businesses; keep those businesses prospering, even if it costs a little more. Its worth it in the long run.

I come here because it's one of the few places to find the baby product brands I need. Every…read more Single. Time. The service gets worse and more annoying. Self-checkout has multiple lanes open, I gravitate there. I pick baby supplies, variety of discounted veggies, start unloading & scanning, to which the self-checkout cashier runs over seemingly irritated I was there with my child and plants, and asks me to go to a "regular check-stand" because she has to do xyz for each individual xyz... okay? so I reload all the plants with no help offered, and cruise over to a regular check-stand. Instead of unloading each plant, I remove all the tags and place them in a neat pile on top of a box of diapers to make it simple for the cashier to scan and she freaks out over an ant on the plant tag, then starts individually asking me about each plant, taking them out, grumbling about the lack of labeling and dirt. I genuinely hate shopping here because of the employees. Sushi department is always friendly. I wish it had its own Yelp separate from the store.

We had decided to visit a winery in the Applegate area and as we passed the market there were signs advertising a special price on chicken breasts. So on our return trip I stopped because they always had (IMOP) the best chicken around. At the meat counter the signs were also there but I was not able to find a clerk. However, I found a couple packaged breasts and went to the check out. Now I haven't been back there in at least 8 years. I always knew this store as a friendly helpful, and honest place. Up front I discovered there was a two lane Self Checkout stand. There I noticed the price per pound was not as advertised. So I told the "clerk" so he could explain, or adjust and he said "I'll get my manager". He returned with an even younger person (manager?) who asked "what is the problem" then after mentioning the price difference he said something quickly, and pointed to the back and scurried off. Meanwhile while waiting at the checkout stand a woman said " there's no open registers", then the attendant motioned to the one I was at and told her to use this one. I started to question then was told " he went to back". No explanation, no customer service, no response. I asked again where he was and only received a shrug of shoulders. This ...THIS SERVICE WAS RUDE AND APPALLING. THIS IS NOT THE HIDDEN VALLEY MARKET FROM just a few years ago. !!

The store had a nice variety of brands which is always helpful. The prices here are higher than the liquor store I frequent in LA, but it's all relative as they say... The staff were very helpful and friendly! That is one of the reason's I love visiting Oregon! Plenty of parking in the lot. Conveniently located next to a grocery store and CVS.
