I just moved back to the area after being away for over 15 years. I was really excited to find a more natural minded store similar to what I had in my old town. But the people that work here were the most unfriendly rude cranky employees I've seen in this town. Not a smile, not a hi how are you, not a how can I help you or have a good day. I needed help with something and the lady in the deli was short cranky and unfriendly. I'll drive to Medford and go to natural grocers before I come back here. I'm so happy there's an organic store in grants pass it makes my shopping for the week so easy. They carry about anything and everything I need, from vegetables to fruits to organic grass fed meat to snacks even vitamins. The store is well organized and is clean. I always love stopping at new natural food stores when I'm traveling, and Gooseberries did not disappoint! Not only did I find some yummy organic items for my dinner, but the cashiers went above and beyond to help me with trying to find a place to get my car repaired (which is why I stopped in Grants Pass!). I was overwhelmed and tired, and they tag teamed, (depending on who was helping other customers -fortunately it was slow). I can't even begin to say how grateful I am for their help. Our daughter introduced us to Gooseberries,we are from California, please don't hold it against us. I'm all about great organic whole foods,skin care etc.I was impressed with the selections and the staff very friendly and helpful.Reading the negative comments surprised me.As far as the deli staff do not have food handler card,well that is a hick up,they should,but as long as they keep health safety procedures with food handling I'm good,gloves no touch face hair etc.Any way great place love the look too read more

Gooseberries whole food store has been in the Grants Pass area for many years. I remember being excited to see the fresh produce and whole food selection when it originally opened a couple of blocks from Fred Meyer. The prices for products are notably on the expensive side which could be expected for whole food, but since they have moved locations the store has considerably less merchandise and is in an old dark, cold building. The produce that is available looks poor. When comparing prices, as we all must do these days, they are at least double what can be purchased at the whole foods market in Medford. I'm not sure how Gooseberries is staying open. The employees are pleasant, but i feel bad for them as it's freezing in there. read more

I was so impressed with Gooseberries the first time I arrived in Grants Pass, I moved here from Nebraska just to live within walking distance of it. Well, that may be a bit of an exaggeration, but five years after my first impression of the store, Im still thrilled that I live so close to a great organic grocery store. When you live in Nebraska and the closest grocery store is 45 minutes away from you, and the closest store with a moderate selection of organic products is almost 2 hours away, you really appreciate a store like this in a town like this where there are many organic options to choose from. What caught my eye that first time, and it hasnt changed over the past five years: an excellent selection of products I actually use. No having to figure out "is this organic?" when looking at the produce, where some is organic and some isnt; its all organic here. Wide aisles, sparkling floors. Staff who have become friends. Everything is so clean. Theyll special order for you. And for me, no having to drive 2 hours to find "something, anything" thats organic. Yes, there are other stores in town that offer organic choices. But for a complete selection of everything I need, from sources I trust, that I know are always going to be there, PLUS a Senior Discount Day on Thursdays and fitness club discounts on Fridays, to me Gooseberries cant be beat. Shop local, shop the independent businesses; keep those businesses prospering, even if it costs a little more. Its worth it in the long run. read more

AAAAAAAAARGH! That is the sound of me screaming after I can't find malt at four other grocery stores, including Fred Meyer - which has a decent natural food selection. See, I got some Como bread at Wal-Mart (I know, so uncool) and it was fricking good. I make bread pretty often anyway and so I googled a recipe for panne di como so that a) I don't have to patronize Wal Mart; b) pay $3.00 for a loaf; c) drive 30 miles round trip. It's an all around win if I bake my own. I can use better ingredients and still get the delicious flavor and texture of panne di como. Panne di como requires malt. I could not find malt. It became an obsession to find it. I popped into Gooseberries and asked a clerk if they had malt. The clerk said they didn't have it. Obsessed, I walked back to the baking section and I found malt. I actually let out a loud "Woohoo" a la Homer Simpson when I found the stuff. Anyhow, in addition to having the malt I wanted, Gooseberries is a well stocked, well priced natural food store with dry goods, cleaning products, produce, and a good meat section. It doesn't even smell like patchouli and it's noticeably free of grubby hippies. Five stars. COOTZ OUT! read more

What a wonderful selection of organic foods. They have everything from free range, organically farmed meat, to vegan, and vegetarian options. They also have a lovely selection of ethnic and imported foods. They also have a great range of toiletry products. We visited the new location yesterday. From the outside, it feels like you're walking into a bank or dentist's office. Please put up some murals on the outside! They have a pretty decent selection of organic/gluten-free/bulk/local products. The cashiers and deli staff were all very friendly and helpful. I will say, do not order the BLT wrap from the sandwich bar unless you're in the mood for some serious bacon. While it costs $7.99, I understand they're looking to give you bang for your buck. However, 8 strips of bacon on one wrap was too much for us to handle (and i love bacon). This wrap would've been much better with less bacon and either some turkey or extra veggies. The produce section needs some work. I thought it was wonderful that they are offering so many local fruits and vegetables but there were some basic things i did not see available- like fresh thyme for example. Also, the display of produce looked scarce rather than the bountiful displays at most grocery stores- even standard ones. All and all, I think Gooseberries is on its way to being awesome. The decor needs some serious work and I hope they won't be lazy about making the shopping experience here 100% just because they're the only natural foods store in town and there isn't any competition. Rude horrible staff. take the time and just drive up to Medford. you'll be disappointed with gooseberries. I've had multiple occasions where I've seen and heard the staff just be terrible to customers or extremely slow service. I really wish this store was better than it is. They seem content to just try to run this business into the ground and its very depressing. I love to support and shop local businesses this is the only one ever that I cannot get behind. Great products, but high prices and rude staff. Wanted to pick up some toothpaste and saw the line was 7 deep with only one checker. Still in the aisle I told my brother that there was only one checker and a very long line and I didn't want to wait. A very rude gal came up to us and in a nasty tone said she was the second checker. My thought was then why are you standing in the aisle being nasty to customers rather than checking people out?! Won't be back! read more

Great local wine selection prices were appropriate for the wine everything else was two to three dollars more than natural grocer in Medford. To organic chicken breasts were almost 15bucks asparagus was priced at nine dollars and seventy cents a pound. Appears whoever is pricing this stuff sees the word organic and thinks they can jack it up 300 percent. read more

I LOVE this store!!! The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because aside from the produce its a little pricey. All of their produce is organic, unless specified. They have local meats, but they don't have that great of a selection of fish. Organic milk is a little pricey so I usually buy it at a different store. Love This Store! They have a great selection in most areas except produce (assuming its hard to be everything to everyone). There greens are always beautiful! There bulk selection is very nicely done as well. The staff are always super friendly. I would give their staff 10 stars! Thank you! The only thing that makes them not receive Five stars is limited variety in produce and pricing .They are higher in pricing than other Organic competitors. Gooseberries has an excellant produce section and some things I cannot get at safeway or Fred Meyer. I would buy all my groceries there except for the high prices. I understand a small store cannot have the low prices of a Fred Myer or Safeway although a few of their products are competative. But my bank account does not allow me to pay higher even though I would rather support a small local business but finances takes priority. The meat selection is pretty good. The deli is good but not great. It does pretty good for a small store. I will continue to shop there for some of my groceries especially on senior discount day. I had a very bad experience in this store yesterday. I walked in and right off the bat, a man working at the register started following me around asking why I was wearing women's clothes, (I am a feminine transgender person). When I told him he was being rude and I didn't want to talk to him, he started following me around the store continuing to harass and ask me questions. Finally I said "ok I'm leaving I give up." He followed me out of the store and continued aggressively yelling at me for not wanting to talk to him. At one point he got up in my face and flailed his arms at which point I backed off and he laughed and said "oh you're scared I'm gunna hit you?" Then some other customers walked in the store and they stared at him because he was yelling. He then told me that I was endangering the other customers. At this point I just left the store and drove elsewhere. But needless to say, I can't recommend this store to anyone. At no point during this man following me around the store and yelling at me did any of the other employees intervene or do anything. I think this store is unsafe for LGBTQIA people and I would discourage others from shopping here. read more

I couldn't live without this store. This and the growers' market are pretty much the only places I buy food. And they have sustainable cleaning products, pet food and supplies, toilet tissue, and all the other grocery items I buy. Their selection of vitamins, supplements, hair and body care products is awesome and their prices are very reasonable. Maybe Freddie's would be cheaper, but I'm not going to drive all the way across town to buy from a chain store! This is locally owned and operated. The staff is super-friendly and helpful. I totally LOVE all the bulk foods, nuts, herbs, soaps and lotions, oils, pasta, rice, etc. They have bulk coconut oil and have TWO nut grinders for peanut and almond butter. Their produce is quite acceptable and their meat department is good. All prices are right in line with what I'd expect for premium, organic products and you know all that money goes right back into our own community, not some corporate office! Thursdays are 10% discount for people over 55 which really helps a whole lot. I'm so, so glad there is such a fabulous store in Grants Pass! read more

To me, Gooseberries lies somewhere between a 2 and a 3 star rating. A solid C with room for improvement. I'd give it higher reviews if the management were nicer and didn't give me an attitude when I returned a product after it didn't meet my expectations. Some of the staff is friendly and kind, some of the staff is snooty and rude. They have a nice selection of alternative, natural, and organic fare. I am glad that Gooseberries is here considering it is the only store of its kind until you reach Medford. I usually shop for sales to make my dollars stretch. Often the sale price at Gooseberries is the normal price at Fred Meyer or Natural Grocers in Medford but I do like patronizing local businesses when I am around. I don't go out of my way to get to Gooseberries but if I am in the neighborhood I will stop in and see what's good. It is an attractive looking store and everything is kept clean, well stocked and organized. The rows are wide and everything is nicely spaced so nothing feels crowded. Sometimes they have a good deal in the deli like buy a pound of meat and get 1/2 a pound of cheese for free. They have local and regional wines and some are organic. Decent beer selection. Pretty good bulk food section but a bit on the pricey side. Fragrances, tinctures, supplements, beauty care products, etc.. A little bit of everything for everyone. Lots of people really like this store, so don't rule it out based on my review. lol. =P I look forward to the day that natural and organic is on par with the prices of conventional...hopefully in my lifetime. If you're unfortunate enough to live in the miserable town of Grants Pass, Gooseberries is sadly your best bet for mostly natural food. While their selection is decent, their deli quite nice, and most of the employees helpful or at least friendly, their prices are completely unreasonable compared to natural food stores in Medford and Ashland. You will likely see a new face each time you visit; the turnover rate is extremely high due to the management being some of the worst people I've ever known. They will never pay any of their employees more than minumim wage, care nothing about the philosphy of the natural food movement, and will fire people on a whim. If you're travelling south on I-5, wait until you get to Meford or Ashland to get groceries. If you'rer heading north, wait for Eugene. read more
