They have an ice machine and their housekeeper and manager are very friendly and attentive. I've stayed here more than once. The rooms are all very clean, linens are great, small fridge in the rooms and I stored water in the kitchen's fridge. Beds are very comfortable and the linens are soft. Each room has its own personality. My only concern, and this would be for management The Innkeeper Elizabeth is not very friendly and asked me to prove my service dog was a real service dog. She demanded a letter from my doctor. After a few minutes in which I explained the ADA she dismissed me with a wave of her hand. The Manager was completely appalled and apologized many times. This incident doesn't change my opinion of this hotel and I will continue to stay there during my frequent visits to Houston. Naen Ramos

We truly could not have imagined our wedding anywhere other than Oak Tree Manor. From the moment we…read moretoured the property, we were absolutely in awe -- especially when we saw the huge oak tree where we held our ceremony. The venue itself is stunning, beautifully maintained, and you can immediately tell this is a family-run venue that takes incredible pride in their property, buildings, and service. From the very beginning, the entire team was friendly, accommodating, and so easy to work with. One of the things we loved most was that they have two separate houses on the property -- one for the bride and one for the groom -- and both were spacious and comfortable, which was something we struggled to find at other venues. The venue package itself included so much: tables, linens, water goblets, plates, silverware, and chargers, along with the option for either an indoor or outdoor reception space. They do require the use of their in-house caterer, bartender, and security team, but honestly, that ended up being one of the biggest positives. The menu selection was great, the food was delicious and reasonably priced, and our guests could not stop talking about how good the drinks were all night long. Leading up to the wedding, they were incredibly flexible and accommodating, which made planning so much easier and less stressful. They even allowed us to bring everything over the day before the wedding, which made a huge difference because we were able to focus on getting ready and actually enjoying our day. Unfortunately, it rained on our wedding day, so we ultimately had to move our reception indoors. The team was so patient while we watched the weather and decided what to do. We made the final decision only about an hour before the ceremony, and they moved incredibly fast to completely transform the indoor space so our coordinators could come in and finish decorating. They handled everything calmly and professionally during what could have been a very stressful situation. What stood out most to us throughout the entire day was how accommodating and attentive the team was. No matter what was happening, they made us feel supported, reassured, and genuinely cared for. They were always nearby if we needed something, consistently checking in, and doing everything they could to make sure the day went smoothly so we could truly enjoy every moment. The team at Oak Tree Manor truly made us feel cared for every step of the way. Their kindness, professionalism, flexibility, and attention to detail helped make our wedding day absolutely perfect, and we are so grateful for them.

Everyone was so friendly and kind, and their thoughtful guidance leading up to the wedding helped us feel prepared for every step. I especially want to thank Haydee. Her warmth and attention made such a difference on our wedding day. She made sure our vendors knew exactly where to park, guided them whenever needed, and handled everything with such grace. Because of her, we were able to simply be present and enjoy our day without worry. The entire team went above and beyond, and we will always be grateful for the love and care they put into making our day so special. We couldn't have imagined a better experience. Highly, highly recommend.

I chose for us to stay at this beautiful black- and women-owned establishment after I read about it on Travel Noire, and I don't plan to stay anywhere else on future trips to Houston. The rooms are immaculate. We had a beautiful suite with a private wrap-around balcony with two bathrooms, a parlor, and a large bedroom. The ceiling are high and the rooms are large, and this cannot be replicated by a hotel. I was surprised how quiet it is in the area overnight and in the early morning, given the midtown location. The breakfast was wonderful, delicious, and made based on our dietary preferences. We felt heard and understood. We have no negative words for this gorgeous place and the beautiful people who run it. We felt safe in the private parking lot behind us. There are cameras that are monitored outside. There is security code access to enter the building during your stay obtained when you check in. I, during our stay and given my Francophilia,, called it "The House," because we had all of the amenities of home here and given the original French meaning of the name of the spot. Thank you. Bravo!

She was very helpful with a slightly early check in when we had an event to get to in the city and also helping us with check out to figure out how we could see the city and return for our things at the hotel since we had a late flight. La Maison is in a great location in Midtown - although I know public transport is not big in Houston, it's not far from the redline stop (maybe a ten minute walk) and we took average of this to go to the museum area and downtown. La Maison has great facilities with a spacious living and dining room, and even an elevator! (Not common in most bnbs and a welcome surprise during check in). The freshly cooked breakfast was exceptional - our appreciation to the chef!

I stayed at Aria and Venetian at Vegas a lot but I have never seen something like this. Did not touch their drinks inside fridge. Only used their fridges for storing our waters. They charged $8.85 for using their mini bar food. I'm a full grown adult staying with my wife, no children at all. While I called the hotel to dispute it, the lady did not want to investigate or refund about it. What? I'm a full grown adult calling to dispute about $8 after I deliberately used it? Was I supposed to write down an inventory list of what's within fridge and take pic as a proof? Was I supposed to ask for their agreement prior to using their fridge to store my water? Thats fucking insane. It's not about the price, it's about the fact that I did not consume their drink. If you hate money, come here. 2 stars not 1 star because to be fair, the hotel room is comfortable. Staff is friendly. Well, never again. Extremely disappointed. There is no entrance fee and you're able to fish from the shoreline without a fishing license. The park is open from 8am-5pm. There's only about 2 miles worth of easy, paved trails. The main attraction is their observation tower that has an elevator that took us to the top. Up there, we saw the Houston skyline, oil refineries, and the other areas of the park we can't get to by foot. There are occasionally some ranger programs that the park rangers host. Because this park is classified as a not for profit park, they don't sell any gifts or souvenirs. They do have a park stamp though if you're interested in adding to your Texas State Parks Passport stamp collection. Even though this place doesn't offer many of the bells and whistles of other parks, the free admission makes it accessible to anyone seeking to get away from the "busyness" of life.

They only have group camping onsite and the campsites are not private, but very close together. Located in an unincorporated community just right off of Beltway 8 and US-90 Highway is Sheldon, TX which isn't too far from East Houston. Sheldon Lake isn't as kept up as Brazos Bend State Park in Needville or Stephen F. Austin in San Felipe, TX (which are closer state parks near Houston worth checking out); I did notice that since the park is considered free, hooligans feel the need to vandalize educational outdated posters on the tower and carve their names into trees which serve no purpose. I had the pleasure of meeting one of the park rangers, Tori who mentioned that the park was special to her. She was going around the park to assessing things that needed to be completed and worked on. This is one of the underrated parks that is home to ecological habitats of wetlands, bottomland woods, and coastal prairies. Driving to the park on Garrett Road, to your right, you'll see Sheldon Reservior. Seeing the trees on the reservior reminded me of the bald cypress at Caddo Lakes State park in Karnack, TX. Big and sunken into the swampy waters. Climbing several stairs to get to the top of the 82-floor tower was exciting because the view was stunning. There are placemarkers on the floor that indicate at which area that you stand you can see the Houston Ship Channel, the San Jacinto Monument, Houston Skyline, bayous, and views of the park. The elevator looked to be out of commission for a while as it was boarded up. There were giant solar panels generating the Mitsubusi Generators behind the towers. The trails are flat and gravel based; they are easy to manever for able-bodied and handicapped accessible individuals. There aren't any traditional trail markers located through the park which can be a bit confusing if you have trouble with reading a maps or don't have a sense of direction due to a lack of spatial awareness, then you may get lost. Not to worry because the park is very small and each trail isn't too long. The main trails always lead back to the parking lot. Each trail at this park doesn't extend past 0.8 miles. Unlike many others TX State parks, the Civilian Conservation Corps didn't build anything on-site at Sheldon Lake. This is definitely not one of my favorite state parks within our state that I've visisted, but it isn't bad to come here for a quick hike and to relax. It wasn't very crowded like it would be at Enchanted Rock located in Fredricksburg, TX or even Inks Lake in Burnet, TX. The park is very simple and needs some extra work to make it shine like the other TPWD parks.
