I visited 3 places for consultation and found Dr. Chan to be the most thorough and knowledgeable, giving me confidence in her ability to give me the best outcome. She suggested I do the routine cleaning with Dr. Cross & Denise, since teeth shape/size can change after cleaning, and I agreed. I visited them in March, and also asked them to send a pre-determination for my treatment. I also have an email record of this including Barbara, the secretary, asking me for my dental insurance phone number. However, there has been a lot of miscommunication and disorganization since. Barbara called later asking if I could reschedule my cleaning to a month later which was fine for me. I called the day before to confirm my appointment and spoke with Barbara again who confirmed with me I was in the schedule. Except the next day, I came in and found out I was never put in the schedule? So I made an appointment with Denise that day for two weeks later. But then Barbara called me again later with no records of me in the schedule still - miscommunication amongst the staff. Also, even though I filled out the information for Dr. Chan online, and then Dr. Cross in person in the office (so 2x at this point), my information was apparently lost. I also found out that even though I asked for the pre-determination, and gave my dental insurance phone number and sent a follow-up email, the pre-determination was never sent in these past 4 months. I suggest for new patients, the onboarding is more structured. There was a lot of disorganization in just setting up an appointment as a new patient that made me feel uncomfortable.

Extremely disappointing and misleading billing experience. I would not recommend this practice…read more Before scheduling my appointment, I specifically called the office to confirm that they accepted my MetLife PPO dental insurance. I was told that they did, and I was explicitly assured that if there were any reason my insurance would not cover the services, the office would let me know before I came in. Their website also indicates that they accept MetLife PPO. I also specifically asked about the cost of the services beforehand. During my appointment, the dental hygienist was supposed to inform me about an additional $395 charge but "forgot." I was only informed about this charge when I went to check out. At that point, I was pressured to pay the $395 and was repeatedly assured that my dental insurance would cover 80-100% of the costs. I have now found out that the claim was submitted as out-of-network, despite my having specifically confirmed my insurance status with the office beforehand, and my insurance ultimately covered none of the $395. What is most frustrating is that I made a point of calling ahead specifically to avoid exactly this situation. Had I been told that the provider was out-of-network or that I could potentially be responsible for hundreds of dollars, I would not have proceeded with the treatment. Patients deserve accurate information about both insurance network status and out-of-pocket costs before treatment, not a surprise $395 charge at checkout followed by assurances that insurance will cover it when that turns out not to be the case. I am extremely disappointed with how this was handled and will be telling my friends, family, and anyone I know looking for a dentist not to use this practice. I will be filing a formal complaint with the New York City Department of Consumer and Worker protection as well as the Better Business Bureau over these fraudulent and misleading practices.
