I had a an emergency today (my heat went out), a Saturday, and the on call technician (Anthony) came out quickly and was very thorough in checking everything out and ultimately found the problem. I have used Riley for almost 20 years and it's crazy to say that! When I had my condo in North Providence I had a water tank let go and they came out and fixed it the next day. They also came and fixed leaking shower valves and backed up toilets and toilets that kept running. Last week at my house in Cranston I wasn't sure what was going one with water on the floor under my water tank and boiler and water on the pipes in the air! Steve came out Thursday after hours. They came out quick and shut off the water to the tank area so I still had water for the rest of the house ( after I shut off everything)! Good luck getting past the phone call. The woman i spoke with is rude and condescending. I called to get a few simple problems fixed, a leaking faucet in my bathroom and shower head that didn't turn off properly. We'll I never even made it off the phone with mommy and daddys rude daughter who runs rhe company. She laughed at me and told me she doesn't need my business all because I answered her question and she did not like the answer. I called back the day before to confirm because it was a no heat issue and it was very important that somebody come and service the furnace. I was having issues with my boiler on a Sunday (NO HEAT AT ALL!) in mid-March, temps in the high 20's/low 30's, so I went online and starting looking up different plumbing/heating companies. I made a few calls to companies I found online and Riley Plumbing and Heating was the first to return my call. One of the technicians, David, called me back shortly after I initially called and went over some details over the phone. I had called a few other companies and wasn't sure if I should go with Riley P&H or not, but seeing David was very professional and pleasant on the phone, I decided to give them a shot and I was happy I did. David arrived to my house within 30 minutes (drove up from Warwick to North Providence) and quickly diagnosed what the issue was. He was very knowledgeable about my heating system and also very patient with my million questions! He fixed my boiler within 15 minutes of arriving and ran a few different tests to ensure several other parts of the boiler were working properly as well. David was very easygoing, personable, efficient and just overall very pleasant to have in my home. Seeing that it was a weekend, the service was considered an "emergency visit" and the price was still very affordable. They also provided a flashlight magnet for the fridge! This review was for work done in Johnston, RI not CA like it suggests on Yelp. William J Riley Plumbing did "work" in my condo unit on Dec. 27, 2019 and did not come back when I addressed concerns about the quality of the work. On January 24, 2020 my condo property manager called to notify me that the downstairs unit owner complained of a leak from my unit which had damaged his ceiling. The condo association's plumber came out to inspect my tub and fixtures on Jan. 27th and determined that the overflow faceplate was installed incorrectly causing the leak downstairs. So not only did I in good faith pay Riley Plumbing for their "work" but now I'm having to pay for the damage they created and did not rectify when I asked them to. It's pure negligence! My only complaint, which I've seen on a lot of other reviews, was that scheduling was not well organized. I had to call back multiple times and had 2 people come out weeks apart to give me a quote because the first review was apparently lost. Luckily I was not in a rush, so I had no problem waiting. I've been gathering estimates for my hot water heater replacement (required by condo after 10 years) and after 5 estimates I call Riley Plumbing. They ask size, model, and then asks if I have serial number. Liz looks it up and, lo and behold, the unit is only 6 years old and does not need replacing!!! I moved into a new house. After about a week, my wife and I found some plumbing problems (not an emergency but issues nonetheless). I called on Riley Plumbing on Wednesday and quickly set up an appointment for Thursday at noon. Noting that I worked close by and the plumber may be a little late, I gave them my cell phone number to give me a heads up 15 minutes before they arrived. At 11:45am the next day, Charlie from Riley Plumbing called me saying he would be there at noon. I went back home and he met me there promptly at noon. Charlie did a great job and fixed the problem. As he was leaving, he called me to explain the problems, how he fixed them, and how to avoid future issues. Of note, I have a friendly beagle at home. Charlie was more than considerate of her and her extra friendliness. There was not need to lock her up as he was flat out fantastic dealing with her while I left him do his work. Bottom line: I highly recommend Riley Plumbing for your next plumbing problem. They are easy to schedule with, on time, and do a great job. What more do you want with a Plumber? read more

These guys are phenomenal! I have never dealt with a better business when having work performed in my houses. I would recommend them to everyone. Upon purchasing my new house, I pulled the typical Rhode Islander move and called one of big box "local" companies to service my boiler (which will go unnamed), as I knew it had not been touched in several years. They came over to the house for 5 minutes, told me they couldn't do anything and left. Highly doubting this, I called Riley Plumbing and scheduled an appointment. A couple weeks later, David arrived and serviced my boiler. It took over 2 hours! He was so meticulous, showing me exactly what he was doing why it was important. At the end of the visit, my CO output went down from 500ppm (a potentially hazardous/fatal amount) to less than 100ppm and they also found that my boiler had not ben converted up to code. They were able to get the part I needed and squeezed me into their busy schedule within a couple days to replace this item, because they did not want to leave me without my boiler off. As an aside, the cost was VERY fair. I wish I could express how highly I recommend these guys, both David and Liz are very professional and I have nothing but compliments for them. I called Riley Plumbing immediately expecting to get a voicemail but someone picked up. They had someone out here first thing holiday Monday morning. David was friendly and diagnosed the problem was coming from a sewer blockage and gave us the number to the city to come fix it. I have mixed feelings about this plumbing company. I won't bore you with all of the details, so here's the quick version. Pros: - David seems like an expert repairman, was friendly to my kids, explained everything patiently, and did a great job fixing my boiler - They gave me recommendations to other local services that were really good - they recommended a good Drain company, and Chimney company Cons - Their rates are astronomically high (in my personal opinion) - per their biller, they charge $160/hr for the first hour and $110/hr for each additional hour - they also charge for time sourcing your parts, and they round up to the nearest 1/2 hour - this was all told to me on the phone by their biller. - Instead of sending itemized bills, they just gave me a single amount, and when I asked for the breakdown, the most they would do was split it into "parts" and "labor." I was expecting a bill for about $400 after my service call (90 minutes total time spend at my house + a "controller" part that I still don't know the exact price on), and the actual bill I received was for more than $800. Conclusion: This company is superb if you are looking to hire an expert and are willing to pay the above rates for such service. This company is terrible if you are trying to get things fixed on a budget. read more

I manage rental properties and have used William Riley for several years as my go to for service and repair. They invariably do an excellent job within a great time window, and it is not unusual for me to hear from tenants about how much they liked the plumbers, which is not the norm. They are courteous and professional. As an example I had a water heater fail and the tenants and I had rolled up towels and encircled the unit to cut down on water damage. Riley plumbing replaced the unit, but also cleaned up the area as if nothing had happened and ran the towels through the washer and dryer for us while they were there. Just a nice thing to do for us instead of just heaping things in a corner. I have used them enough other times to see that this is definitive of how they treat customers and their homes. read more

Monday at 8am I called Riley's and Liz answered and said she would have someone come out and look today. At 9am I got a call saying someone would be over in 20 minutes. David met me at the house and was very professional and kind. He knew exactly what the issue was and was able to fix the pipe in less than 2 hours (along with several other things that were wrong). Not sure is the price was comparable to others since this was the first time calling a heating company. However it was not a lot and I was quite pleased with the service. These folks talk straight and provide excellent service. I saved thousands, maybe five for new but not HE, for HE for seven to twelve thousand, by simply getting my decent system cleaned. They recommended just service when I told them over the phone I was considering a replacement! I have great windows, great insulation and can really justify going from proven super reliable rugged technology to HE equipment whose annual service cost will use up most of my savings, AND, I don't have to pay big money for a new system. I'm pretty sure these are the guys you want. Dave was prompt, professional and got it done very fast. He even gave me an efficiency rating which was pretty much as it was designed. Now , if I want to eventually upgrade I can make a well informed comparison and do a cost analysis. The retort to my thinking is, a water heater might go every 6- 9 years but, that is only say, $900 over the next 6-9 years right, versus $7,000 to $12,000?
