Then you have the older employees who tries their best at customer service and it shows, however most tourist are from bigger populations where it has to be quick and done no chit chat. The employees take it in strides though because they know not everyone has been afforded manners and an open mind to relax and slow down. They used to- possibly still do have a small selection of video rentals. I haven't been there in a while and redbox may have encrouched on their small market. No alcohol on Sundays and they have a good selection of scratchers.

The date on the package: June 2026. The day after that, we discovered the chili had expired in March 2026. After the holiday weekend, we called the store. The employee who answered the phone told us to come in that week to talk to the owner, Craig. When I went in, the cashier went to speak with the owner, who talked loudly enough for me to overhear him angrily question whether I was local (I said, yes I live here), then he accused me of trying to scam him out of money. His actual words were "SCAM-NEEDS MONEY." He agreed only to replace the items and not offer a refund, since I did not have a receipt. We have been customers here for 4 years and am rarely if ever offered a receipt. When I went to grab replacements off the shelf, every can of that brand of chili had expired in February or March 2026. This was July. I brought the expired cans to the cashier and asked him what to do since they were all expired and he said "I don't care, get a different brand." Many other brands were expired too. I managed to find one can of a different brand expiring this month and took it. Not a single package of hot dog buns had a July date. All of them were from June. The excuse offered: "They were frozen, we add our own stickers with new dates to the back." Except ours grew mold in under 48 hours. We will never shop here again under this ownership and after sharing my experience, it sounds like many locals have had negative experiences and do not shop here. If you choose to shop at the Ruch Country Store, check the dates on everything you buy here, and ask for a receipt. Accusing loyal customers of running a scam while your shelves are stocked with expired food that can make people sick is disgraceful. If just need the bare essentials, the market a few doors down will treat you better. This store is the real scam.

No big deal, mistakes happen, we just didn't get to have chili dogs. The following day I open the buns to find mold over several of the remaining in the bag. Check the date and it says June 26. So now we're a little ticked off and call the store, a cashier answers and she says that the owner wasn't in that day and because we didn't have a receipt (we've never been offered one in over 4 years of coming here) that we should come in during the week and he would take care of it. Wife goes in and is met with resistance from the cashier because of the lack of receipt. He goes and talks to the owner who spoke loud enough for my wife to overhear him question if we were even local to the area and then say that we were probably just trying to scam him out of money. He only agreed to replace the items for us. Cashier tells her we can replace the items and to grab them off the shelf. All 15 or 20 cans of that brand of chili were also expired in March or Feb of 26, as were a lot of the other brands. She was able to find a can that expired this month so she took it. None of the other hot dog buns had even a July expiration date, all from June. "But they were frozen so the shelf life is longer than that." Okay, except they were moldy in less than 48 hours. This overall experience has ensured I will never shop here again until there are new owners (there will be with how he runs things). But I felt compelled to leave this review for the rest of our community in hopes that the ones who cannot go to other stores will at least check dates on their food and ask for receipts. It's disgusting to act the way he did knowing full well the store is packed with expired food that can make people sick or worse. Buy your beer from the market just a few doors down if that's all you need, because this store is the true SCAM!!

Great they have what I need but while I'm there I decide to have them make a cheeseburger for me. And these are "custom made" burgers. You order the burger and then do a check off on everything you want on it. Next time you are near have them cook one up for you and take it out onto their deck and watch the creek role by. I don't think you'll be unhappy. I also bought some coleslaw and chicken bow tie salad. Very good. Although I felt the coleslaw needed some spices to it.

This meant we bought out daily small needs there as well. But next owners did not offer this service so we had to go to Post Office. Then the present owners took over and renamed it Sam's Market. For the longest time they had an OPEN sign on front---but the door was locked. After stopping multiple times to get last minute purchases, I just quit stopping and went to the next store down. For a while I was told, there were something like bodyguards checking people at the door at night. Seemed nefarious to me and I quit going altogether. I now rate it a 0. Too bad because this was the greatest little general store for years. Hope someone new takes over and brings it back to it's former local mkt glory.
