We have put off getting a living trust for years. This year I made a promise that I would finally do it. A friend from work recommended Williamson & Gentilini so we called them and set up an appointment with Richard Williamson. This law firm specializes in estate planning and trusts and made the process very straightforward. Essentially, there was 3 steps in the process. They send you a online questionnaire to identify your beneficiaries, successor trustees, power of attorney, and bank accounts. Then you have an initial meeting with the attorney who goes over your responses on the questionnaire to make sure of your choices and explain what a living trust is and is not. Then a final meeting after a few weeks takes place to go over the completed living trust and sign the documents. Richard explained how everything worked, what our responsibilities were post trust completion, and made the whole process a pleasure. The cost of getting the Living Trust prepared is reasonable and if you are a referred client there is a generous discount applied. What a wonderful experience! Not only was it fruitful and painless, but I learned SO much. I recently found out that my life insurance wouldn't pay out to my kids until they're 18 years old! I was matter-of-factly informed by AAA that I needed a trust to make sure they were looked after. (Is this something everyone knows? I had no idea!) Richard is a great guy, very knowledgeable and Estate planning is all he does. Very thorough and easy to follow process and you walk away with a binder that is an encyclopedia of what you need to know (and more importantly what your survivors/Executor needs to know, that will allow you to understand what you did years from now (not just in the office when you are there). It was a very easy, clear process. I was dreading doing this and was expecting a depressing, time consuming legal maze to wade through. Instead, it was a 2 visit and done, pleasant, easy process and in plain English. Richard made it all very easy to understand the "who, what, when and why" and had some excellent insight on how to think about things. My Father's estate, who spent a fortune with an attorney to get his estate and will done, was a complete mess and took thousands of dollars in additional fees to straighten out. I have high confidence my heirs will not have any issues with my estate plan from Richard.
