Due to my heart condition, my Cardiologist wrote me the recommendation to get a handicap license plate. I was under the impression I'd have to take the long drive to Georgetown to get it. I was mistaken. I can get it here locally at the tax office. So I pulled in one weekday the parking wasn't that bad. I walked into the lobby and that's where the confusion is because the doors are not labeled well. Plus, I was expecting to go into an office as opposed to a large waiting room. Now, once inside the waiting room, they have the big signs saying take the number. Another sign where you need to login. Then you take a seat and wait. Now I made the mistake of coming mid morning which was a little busy. My wait was about 30 minutes. So I walked over to the desk, set up for one of the people taking care of you. I handed them the letter from my doctor. She asked me a few questions. And then said my total was 50 Cent. I repeated you want 50 Cent, she said yes 50 Cent. I ask again it's only $.50 right like two quarters and she said yes, and she was laughing at this point. I have never been to a government building and paid this cheaply before. Once the money was exchanged, she handed me my new plates and asked if I was going to change them in the parking lot or at a later time. Since my neighbor was going to change them for me, I said a later time. So she explained where I can drop off my old plates. Handed me a packet of paper papers that have instructions on them. This tax office location in Cedar Park is known by us to go above and beyond. The employees are always gracious despite dealing with what I consider to be "throngs" of customers. We have utilized all their services- Property Tax Payments Motor Vehicle Titles and Registration Handicap Placards They will also guide you if you arrived at the wrong location for services they don't provide. This review is of the drive-thru tax service aspect of the office. There is a convenient two lane drive-thru for immediate registration renewals and property tax payments. There are clearly posted signs directing vehicles to the the correct part of the building to get in the payment line. As noted, transaction results are immediate here. If you are registering your vehicle, you receive your sticker. This is so much faster than waiting on the postal service! When I was registering there was an issue with my address and the employee almost sent me to Travis County. But with my driver's license showing a Williamson County address, she made the system corrections for me and updated my forms instead. In this drive-thru, only checks and credit cards can be used for payment. Finally, this tax office has two entrances, and, should you prefer to walk in, there is ample parking in front, behind, and on the side of the building. read more

I have been here only twice and each time was a wasteful endeavor - I'm just trying to transfer over a title and get my registration and one person will tell me something but not everything. I got all of my documents obtained and got here right before the thirty days just for someone else to tell me that I needed to be on the insurance when I CLEARLY was here already for the same thing. Have all the information to give right then and there and stop wasting peoples time. Do you realize how hard it is to get in this place given yall are open business hours when people work?? I've sent my 100% DV award letter 3 times to this office in my 7 years here as a Georgetown resident. They have a copy of my P&T letter but recently removed my tax exemption. This office is knowingly breaking state law against their residents. I've called multiple times to correct the mistake but the employees just don't do anything about it. This office is illegally trying to bill exempt veterans while giving huge tax abatements to the new data centers that are moving in. The quality of life here will continue to get worst due to the low lives that work in this office. They make sweet deals with new businesses & are willing to fraudulently bill the regular citizens because they just don't care about the residents. Think twice before moving to Georgetown, this is the nonsense that we are dealing with & it will only get worse read more

I had to renew my registration so I headed over to the county tax office after my emissions test. When I pulled in I was pleased to see that they had a drive thru service. The line was long but there were two lanes so I proceeded to the empty lane and had no problems renewing my registration. The employee that helped me was efficient and helpful. Overall was a pleasant experience and that was nice because sometimes people can be rude but not here! read more

I got there at 7:40 and there were only 3 people in front of me, but it started piling up after that (20 people in line by the time the doors opened at 8). Strangely I was the 6th or 7th called on the screen even though I was 4th in line. Took me about 30 minutes at the desk to get my paperwork done. They asked me for proof of residence even though the checklist didn't say I needed it. You might want to bring a check too to avoid the credit/debit card fees as well. read more

11 minutes to register my truck today. Had my vehicle inspected Yesterday and decided to renew my registration today. Never felt comfortable driving around with expired tags, even though we were given a pass. I made the appointment on 6/27 at 10:15am. Next available appointment. Same day at 11:15am. Parked my vehicle at 11:07am, checked in at the ATM, $81.00 later I'm waking out at 11:18am. My registration was always $300 or more in my home state. Another reason to love the great state of Texas. My agent wasn't exactly friendly, but she wasn't mean. (deduct 1 ) Only about 6-8 people waiting. I didn't feel comfortable taking pictures in a state building. Sorry! Michael C. read more

It's not often that I will actually write a review of a government office building, but here we are. :-) Credit must be given to one of the most efficient offices I've yet seen. One of the things I like is the realtime updates you can find at the Tax Office website, showing you the wait times for all their offices. (Pro Tip: If you live to the east of I-35, the office in Taylor seems to *never* have a wait more than 10 minutes long.) Aside from the updates, you can also request an appointment via the website so long as you put in your cell phone number. Once that's done, just show up and wait! At least I tried to wait...I barely got a chance to sit before I was called up. Service was fast and friendly, to the point that I'm thinking: Why can't all government functions be this way? I know, I know, but ya gotta dream... Note: The waiting room was practically empty on a Wednesday but it is big, meaning that it CAN get packed. If so, I'd caution you to set aside enough time to find a parking space. The lot's fine but it doesn't look quite big enough to handle the number of cars that would lead to a crowded waiting area. read more

I needed to transfer a car title, pay the taxes for the used car that I just bought for my son, and get new tags for my truck. I got a number from a touch screen monitor in the opposite corner of the room as soon as I walked in. Got everything done and was in and out of there within 10mins including the wait. I was in and out in less than an hour. I like how the number system is made according to what you need to do. Thankfully, there were not a lot of people needing license plates so my line went fairly quickly. There were about 8 desks working this Friday morning and my lady could not have been nicer. My only problem was that there should be additional seating outside the main room. There were a lot of people standing or sitting on the floor. Overall, it took less time than I thought! read more

This is by far the best Office on discovery blvd. I went in to transfer registrations and in no time I was called up to the window and I was taken care off. Staff was very courteous and helpful. Place was clean and spacious enough to accommodate everybody. I don't think that many people knows about this location as the other ones I have visited get pretty full and you don't even find seat to sit in those other ones. This is not the worst tax office, but it is kind of small. Monday prime time therecare only 4 people working. I waited about an hour. The lady I talked with was very nice, but they did not have the forms I needed out where I could get them. Also the machine that dispenses the numbered tickets for thevwaiting queue was not working right... Causing many problems! read more

I went there today at around 3pm to get my car registered finally after moving here from NY. The place was PACKED. They have a touch screen menu that has a few options of things you came to get done. It also prints out your number. My wife and I went back out to the front entrance of the building where others were waiting. They had like 5 booths closed. WTF?? Get to work! I do not want to be here forever. Around 4:15 my number finally was called. The lady at the booth who called our number was really nice. I came prepared with everything I needed so it ended up being a breeze. I wish they could work on getting people in and out a little faster. I am thankful I did not have to deal with a grump at the desk. I guess I was fortunate in that aspect. read more

On the few occasions that I have had to visit this office, it has always been really busy and crowded. However, with the number ticket dispenser, the lines get called to the appropriate windows pretty efficiently. I have never waited more than 15 - 20 minutes, which is awesome compared to the one in Austin!! read more
