Therefore the reservation has been canceled. On day two, I call the reservation number, talk to a representative, explain yesterday's situation, and ask that he double check availability. He double checks and assures me that there will be a car for me. I ask him to triple check because yesterday's experience cannot be repeated. He assures me that he has triple checked. I take my Uber to the location and am told that there are no cars to rent. I call the reservation line and tell the representative my story. He kisses my boo-boo and tells me it will be taken care of. Meanwhile, the personnel actually standing before me are less optimistic. There's always a perfectly logical explanation for how I am getting repeatedly shucked here. "It's our system" or what-the-heck ever. Either way I remain thoroughly and totally shucked, having paid for a ride TWICE. At this point I am editing my original review... Well, it actually is the Enterprise system. Maybe they're a little too flexible on return dates and times. This is what leads to showing up to no cars available. I finally wound up with a car. I even extended my rental by one day with no hassle. But there has to be a better system. The stress was unnecessary but I didn't have to walk. So I raised the review from one to three stars.

Woman at the front counter who helped us was very smug and has no customer service skills. This is not the first time I've showed up when I couldn't get a vehicle but previously they were able to make something work out this time no effort made just the smug attitude from the the woman at the counter, really couldn't have been handled worse.

I had tried numerous locations for a car rental with no luck. Avis was my last call on the list. Fortunately they had two cars for me to pick from. Due to the holiday they were going to be closing early however, the AVIS Associate volunteered to stay until I could arrive to pick up a car. She was extremely helpful, courteous and very understanding. She gave me options to keep the car longer if needed until my car could be fixed. I highly recommend AVIS on St. Simon Island!

I did not feel comfortable driving it, so I opened the hood to check whether anything looked obviously wrong. I found fluid reservoirs that appeared to be empty, including the coolant and brake fluid reservoirs. Given the smell and what I saw under the hood, I felt the car was unsafe to drive and returned it immediately. When I came back to the counter, the agent was dismissive and snarky, insisting that all of their cars are well maintained. That was not reassuring, especially after what I had just seen. They did give me a replacement vehicle, but the second car smelled heavily like cigarette smoke, as if it had been smoked in for years. I checked under the hood again and again found what appeared to be an empty brake fluid reservoir. At that point, I canceled the rental entirely. This ruined my family's plans for the day and wasted a significant amount of time. I understand that rental cars can have issues, but two problematic vehicles in a row, combined with a dismissive attitude from staff, is unacceptable. I would not rent from this location again. At a minimum, these vehicles need to be inspected carefully before being handed to customers, especially when there are possible brake/coolant fluid issues and obvious smoke odors. Safety should not be treated casually.

The lady who helped me at the counter was super nice and when I returned the car, also another lady, I think her name was Karen, was also very nice! The whole process was nice, quick, and easy. They also did not charge anything extra on our rental.

We were charged a $200 cleaning fee because the attendant found a tiny amount of dog hair in the vehicle. As any dog owner (especially of dogs who shed even more when the seasons change) can attest, a certain amount of dog hair follows you around even when your dogs aren't present. Our dogs were never in the vehicle (even though we weren't notified that dogs weren't allowed until we picked up the vehicle) but dog hair was present on some level on our clothes, luggage, etc. so it's not surprising that a small amount of hair was found in the car. While we would have been happy to spend five minutes vacuuming the car ourselves if we'd known this location was so unreasonable, the trace amount of dog hair (in an otherwise super clean vehicle) would not have added any additional time to the standard vehicle cleaning/check-in process. That makes it even more difficult for me to believe their policy is to charge a customer these outrageous fees without any negligence.
