I cannot recommend Willis Orchard Company: I purchased 4 trees in on 1/4/2024. I was skeptical upon receipt as the bare-root trees simply had sparse roots. (Take a good look at the sparse roots still in the package) Nevertheless, I planted and nurtured. The Chojuro Asian Pear Tree - promptly died in the spring due to lack of roots (within a few months - never made it to summer). The Fuyu Persimmon Tree produced no leaves in 2024, and a single leaf in 2025 after I cut it back to about 10 inches from the ground. Apparently patience is not rewarded - I requested that they provide replacement trees with a GOOD root structure. I hate writing negative reviews, but I have to say I was quite unpleasantly surprised by the customer service of this company. I'd like to help others avoid making the same mistake, as they are now trying to charge me a fee for canceling an order that was never sent. I ordered several trees from Willis Orchard for a reforestation project about 4 hours north of where I live. I placed the order on 11/30/25, and it said on the website that these trees were available for shipment between 12/1 and 3/15. All standard for dormant mail-order trees. I received a confirmation email that the order was received and that it would take 10-14 business days to ship. All fine. I wrote them an email right away to ask if they might be able to send a little faster, as I was going to be flying up to plant the trees on a specific date. Email was never answered, project came and went, no trees sent. So, now mid-December, after the 10-14 business day window (which ended 12/18 for my order), I called them to ask what was going on with the trees. I spoke to a fairly rude man who told me they had been accepting orders for those trees since June and that I was now at the very back of the line since my order had just come in. Not clear whatsoever from anything I saw about these specific trees on their website or from the order confirmation. He said I should have read the Q&A section on their website and that they would ship later in December. Ok. Well, it's now January. Still no trees. So, I wrote to just cancel the order. This was met with a rude back-and-forth exchange in which I'm informed I'll be charged a 10% cancellation fee for trees that they admit they never sent. When I pointed out the "10-14 business day" shipment notice from them, I was corrected that it says it "may take" not "will take" 10-14 business days to ship. So, I'm basically out of luck and have to pay a fee for an order that they never fulfilled. Moral of the story: 1. Your order apparently isn't really that with Willis Orchard. It just gets you to the back of the line on a secret waitlist you were totally unaware of. So, don't expect to receive your plants anywhere near when you "ordered" them. 2. Be prepared for rudeness and fees if you need to cancel your order, even if it never ships. My honest advice: order from someone else. read more

Absolutely terrible customer service. Jay Young, supposed to be some kind of manager there, is more interested in arguing with you than taking care of you as a customer. Company threw all my trees/bushes in a garbage bag and taped the crap out of it. When I emailed him and told him even with the terrible shipping I was able to salvage all but a couple of things. He simple pointed out their return policy, which leaves you paying for replacement in the form of "shipping" after you do a bark scrap test and send him pictures, you get a "store credit" but after you pay the shipping cost, have no doubt, you are buying the replacement. Either way this place is just out to screw you over. Absolutely zero customer service, terrible shipping practices, and ridiculous management! read more

Make sure you read the fine print, verbatum. They will not honor dead plants, only take the large shipping cost on the NEXT order. Which means, you can get dead plants twice! Nice! I was really looking forward to having some great blackberry bushes, but half were dead. Pretty bad customer service. Never buy from this company especially if you have to pay shipping. Because if you receive defective trees, you lose your shipping fee. They will only give you store credit excluding shipping. They expect you to risk more dollars on shipping to get replacements from them again even though they send you defective trees at the first place. I paid $100 for a persimmon tree to be shipped to me last April. It was a stick without any branch or root when I received it. Still I planted and watered it for months. It never leafed. In fall I called the company and performed the scratch test as instructed. I was told the tree was still alive and I should wait until next spring. Now it's spring and it's still a stick without leaves. I called the company again and was told i should have placed another order with them 2 weeks ago and paid shipping again to get a replacement. There is no room for negotiation or sorry for your bad experience. They do NOT care! I would give zero star if I could. read more

Poor service and value. I bought 4 trees from Willis in January, 2 persimmon and 2 pecan. All were much smaller than the size I purchased. The pecan trees were supposed to be 6-7' trees but the received trees were 4'9" and 5'6" (measured 1" below the graft to the tip). Their explanation is that they were cut short to fit into the shipping box. They were delivered early March. I was expecting trees that had some branches and robust roots, but they were just a 5/8" diameter stick with no branches. There were only a few small roots, with the main tap root cut off at ~12". There were no instructions specific to the pecan trees included and the green wrap that was supposed to indicate where the graft is, was instead about 6" lower. I called questioning the lack of roots and branches and how deep to plant them and was told they ship them this way all the time and to plant 1" below the green tape. Months later in July when the sticks showed no sign of life, I was told the green tape was in the wrong place ("That's been the story for a lot of customers this year.") and to replant the tree deeper. When they still hadn't grown any by September, lack of roots was blamed. I asked for a refund and was told they'd only give me a store credit for the cost of the trees and that I'd have to pay the shipping. The persimmon trees were supposed to be +/-6' tall. They are a lot smaller than I expected with the trunks only about 1/2" diameter near the base. For a +/- 6' dwarf tree, I was expecting more like 1" diameter trunks, like similar sized cherry and apple trees I've purchased locally. Also, they sent me trees that I consider to be +/-5' trees as the Fuyu is 5'4" and the Izu is 5'2", so not even close to 6' trees. Yet I was charged for 6' trees. Unlike the pecans, these had branches and decent roots, so have done well. That is why this review is 2 stars vice 1 star. Buyer beware. The trees are much smaller than you imagine, which is why the prices seem good and the custumer service is poor. I don't plan to buy any more trees from Willis. read more

Update: Ordered 12 trees, they sent 3. Thought 2 were dead but I planted and watered the hell out of them! They started showing buds after about a month. They are improving weekly which is awesome, turns out they are FireCracker Crepe Myrtles (red) We had ordered Natchez Crepe Myrtles (white) Don't want to seem like I'm bitching about it but they won't match the landscape plan we designed. Gonna let them go till fall 2023 and transplant in the kids yard. I guess my point is they never cared to begin with, please don't waste your money with Willis. read more

Ok so I've read all the negative reviews and I was very very skeptical about ordering from this company, but I did anyway. I ordered 46 trees in total. 4 apple varieties 4 pear 4 nectarines 4 apricot 4 peach 4 fig 6 cherry ( 3 varieties 2 each) 4 pomegranate 4 plum 4 almond 4 walnut Whew..... I was trying to remember how I planted them. I made 3 delivery orders in fall of 2023 for a March 2024 delivery. 1 order arrived February 26th and 2 orders on February 29. I had pre- dug the holes in mid February and planted them as they arrived. By March 1st they were all planted and the milk cartons to protect them arrived on March 4th and were put around each tree. They were immediately saturated with water, following the directions that were sent and ground kept moist. I was in the middle of installing water stations for drip systems to the trees when the trees arrived. I finished the drip system within the first week of the trees being planted ( I used hoses and hooked up to the drips and manually watered them until the system was in place). It is now May 19, 2024 and I have to say, so far every tree has sprouted leaves and is thriving including my tiny fig trees 8-12 inches tall and my pomegranates about the same size. I'm not sure what happened with the other people that had negative reviews of this company, but the prices are unbeatable, their quality seams to be pretty damned good. Next year I plan on ordering blackberries, grapes and kiwis ( if any grow in my climate. I live in the high country of Arizona and it snows here getting into the 20s at times mostly 30s ( it actually snowed on Easter morning here this year). I've been farming most of my life so planting trees is nothing new, I originally grew up in the far east Bay Area agricultural area of the San Francisco Bay Area in a town called Brentwood , which is famous for their sweet corn (google it). So with that said, I strongly recommend this company, but order your trees in fall and request late winter/ spring delivery. Trees are dormant and need a damp area for their roots. As they emerge in the spring, I sprayed my trees with Liquid Copper to prevent wood beetles, leaf eating insects, and funguses that may grow. read more

Haven't bought a tree (reason I didn't give 1 star) but wanted to jump in and say that I found the business is dubious at best. I wanted to find out where I could buy a mulberry tree for our house so I searched up where I could find them/buy some. Only for me to stumble across an article BY THE COMPANY that literally says Willis Orchard Company is well known for have the MOST POPULAR mulberry tree saplings. (Let me say that this was the first article that popped up when I searched) I was like cool I wander how the reviews are then only to find out that practically everyone that has ordered from them has had a poor experience one way or the other, be it poor customer service or just the wrong tree or the tree is dead after taking weeks sometimes months at a time and when confronted about this will argue back and not offer a fix or compensation. I have a rather eclectic food forest going and different themed regions in my property of edible plantings. Out of the many nurseries I've ordered from, Willis Orchard has been 1. The slowest to ship (they are clear about their shipping dates) and 2. Hands down the best quality trees and shrubs. I have multiple bananas, peaches, almonds, apples, etc from them and cannot stop ordering, all of the larger plants I've ordered have actually established well within the first year without much shock. That means they took great care in preparing them for shipment. I'm looking forward to the next seasonal delivery I have ordered. Btw I also noticed negative reviews about customer service when I was looking online to check for an address to visit in person. I was putting in a blueberry patch in summer of 2020 and found out that I needed crosspollination for the best production. I stopped by and even though they are not set up for drop in customers, the lady in the office kindly dropped everything to help me choose the perfect bush. I am delighted and the 2021 harvest was excellent. I am looking forward to this year's production since the plants have had another year to get established. Currently at 4 feet tall, this plant is covered with buds, so I am hopeful. I am planning to call ahead to arrange pick up of some Anne raspberry plants (yellow berries). read more

You can tell alot about a company by how they handle issues. Ive purchased at least 15 trees from this company, I have some minor issues with plant quality and or height advertising of the trees, but I never complained because i understand how quickly trees grow and pruning before shipping. However, i purchased a desert king fig earlier this year, it fruited and i noticed the fruit was not desert king. I emailed them, they told me to send photos, i sent photos of the leaves and ripe fruit. I told them i thought it was brunswick. Instead of recognizing that it was not desert king, they fixate on how its not brunswick, which is irrelevant. After being tired of arguing through email, i called, and it was the same pointless arguments about it not being brunswick. They said they'd talk to the owner, and get back to me. That was a week and a half ago. Ive emailed them with no response. Its as if they dont want to fix the issue. This is The last time i support a company like this. UPDATE: They responded 3 weeks later and said that my purple fig that I sent them was most likely a white Marseilles, once again irrelevant since I ordered Desert king. The owner said thats all it could be. They've recognized that they sent the wrong fig and havent offered to fix it. read more

I purchased a large number of small tress and was charged over $50 shipping fee to have a small box of a bunch of twigs with no roots shipped to me. Most tree shipments from other companies are sent in a fairly large box with wet paper and roots, so I can understand a hefty shipping fee, but with this company I got a tiny box with twigs. There is no way it cost them over $50 to ship such a light and small box. No roots at all on the trees. I planted all of them in a well watered and proper growing location and none have survived. read more

We ordered two 3 year old grape plants from them. They took a couple months to arrive and when they did, they were dead. We sent them pictures and asked them for replacements. They said it'd be 7-11 months before they would ship them. We asked for a refund, they said no and only offered store credit. Why would we want to purchase anything from a company that shipped dead plants the first time and then didn't even stand behind their products? This is ridiculous. I could not be more impressed with both the quality of the blueberry bushes I received or the quality of the customer service. I bought bushes early in the spring. Got them in the ground and bam a very hard frost hit. Some of the bushes went into shock and died. I called the company, they asked for a couple of pictures, and within 5 days had the replacement 22 bushes. I found the company on the internet, I took a chance, and it paid off. We have been working with Willis Orchard since 2016, when we decided to begin re-homesteading a 100+ year old home and property in SE AZ. Almost all of our fruit and nut tree purchases have turned into successfully productive trees. This has been based on mutual cooperation between us as two parties responsible for assisting the trees. We have had two persistent almond trees who insist that they cannot survive. In 2017 Willis replaced the trees at their own expense and offered a lot of advice for further success. Again in 2018, Willis replaced the same two trees that failed again. This time they also provided a list of things to troubleshoot, including possible soil conditions. We do not have any natural gas being used on our property. However, when the lines were "turned off" to our residence, they were apparently leaking into our soil. But leaking in such a minimal way that the normal leak sensor could not originally detect it. We have recently had the gas company come and officially remove these lines from our property permanently and we hope to try these two almond trees again! This time we will happily purchase these trees at our own expense! It's also worth noting that we have always ordered the largest (oldest) trees available and Willis has always sent us beautiful healthy trees. read more

Many of the original were poorly packaged, shipped in snowy conditions, and never grew anything more than new suckers out of the ground. Warranty involves shipping the entire tree back to Georgia, customer service is inflexible, consider avoiding for any future orders. read more

I would not recommend this company to anyone. The first year I ordered from them the trees were shipped to our region so early the ground was still solid frozen and we had to heal them in for two months and most didn't survive. They gave me credit for the dead trees so I reordered. Big mistake this time they shipped bare root trees to me late and after they were leafed out and in full bloom so I highly doubt they will survive transplant. So much for getting them when dormant. Since they don't give money back only credit and these are replacement trees Im out all my money. I order from four other tree companies and none are a problem. Avoid Willis Orchard they are either incompetent or trying to rip you off, maybe both. read more

Ordered three plants (an Italian fig and 2 berries) about 6 months ago and actually forgot I ordered them. I received a message from the shipping company that a shipment was on its way. I wish Willis Orchards also had indicated that my order was shipped, as I didn't know who sent me something until it actually came. The Shipping itself arrived ahead of the expected date provided from the shipping carrier. The plants were packed well with the appropriate gel contents to keep in moisture in but the plants themselves don't look the best quality and seem very young and maybe shipped before their time. Not sure why these have been sent at the start of winter when there is still plenty of time for freezing temps here in the California desert. The plants were promptly planted. Since they are very small/thin/young and it's late December when I received these, I hope they survive the winter to grow in the spring. read more

When I initially called and was needing consult on a plant, the representative interrupted me and asked if I had an order to place followed by her saying this was an order line. I said no (meaning not at that moment as I had a product question), she then hung up before I could further explain. I called back and asked if they would answer questions about their products, she said that they will discuss products with returning customers, which I interpreted as not with me as a potential new customer. just received the 4 cleveland flowering pear trees today and the quality was fantastic. i am a master gardner and i know quality when i see it. a week ago i went to lowes and priced the same size trees in a 5 gal container and they were $49.99 each. i bought the same size (bare root) for $24.95 from willis orchard co. can't believe my good fortune. i highly recommend this company. read more
