Wow, It's been a while since we came here. It's been about a year since they've revamped the inside of this small little fish house. The food: We ordered hog wings in our favorite flavor. I had Thai chili and hubs had parm garlic. They were meaty and flavorful. Also ordered fried shrimp with a small cup of old bay. Perfectly fired and crispy. Husband ordered shrimp tacos. They were grilled to perfection. The drinks didn't disappoint either. I had this strong drink with mezcal. Made me feel like I was on a tropical island. The marina view at sunset is amazing. I've been to the Willoughby Fish House a time or two, so it's time for a review. On this particular day I ordered the crab stuffed mushrooms to start and the Cajun Shrimp Pasta. The stuffed mushrooms were yummy, but I have to admit that I wouldn't order them again. I can't justify spending $15.00 on four tiny mushrooms. I will say that they were filled with crab and cheese, but for the price one would think that you would get more than four of them. The Cajun Shrimp Pasta was delicious and it was a really rather generous portion. That is a dish that could easily be shared by two people. I will say that they could probably lay off of the oregano or whatever that seasoning was. There was way to much of it in the dish. Again, it was delicious but it would have been better with less dried herb on it. The service was fast and friendly. They keep their restaurant clean. I was told that it is a family run business, so I will most certainly continue to bring my hungry tummy to the Willoughby Fish House. read more

I'd like to warn you, in case some you will wind up in Norfolk Virginia, where I went for my birthday, AVOID THIS PLACE for your own sake! The fist and last time I visited "Willoughby Fish House" was to celebrate my birthday. Thanks to the waiter and manager, it turned into a complete disaster, here's why: In addition to 3 soups and a drink, I ordered $25 Flounder for my friend's daughter and $85 Big Bay entry for all 4 of us. The soups and flounder were delivered within 1/2 hour and after another 40-minutes we were presented with... a check! We were shocked but the waiter said she decided that we cancelled our entry!! - Since when OK means NO?! After my wife complained to the manager, he came over saying that he is sorry and it will take another 20 minutes to prepare our order - unlike any decent establishment, it didn't even occur to him to offer complimentary drinks or hors d'ourves while we wait. Well, it took over 40 minutes and when it was finally delivered, some items of the entry were grossly over salted and, just to add insult to the injury, only 1 crab/nut cracker was given to 4 people! Needles to say, we left extremely disappointed and... hungry! As a musician, I work in restaurants/clubs etc. and always leave good tips when I go out... not this time. read more

This was my friend time here. Unfortunately my first experience was not the best when it came to the food. The waitress and workers were all very nice. I first ordered the clam chowder. Super watery, lack of flavor. My shrimp taco had cut up tomatoes but unfortunately some of the tomatoes had black on them. You know when vegetables start to decompose they get black. I picked those out and still ended up eating a few bites of the shrimp taco. Mostly because I was so hungry. Thumbs down. The brisket and pork tacos were over loaded with BBQ sauce. Tasted like I was just eating BBQ sauce. The meat was fairly dry. Although this experience wasn't great, I do intend on going back and trying something else. You can tell this family run business cares about the food quality & it shows. Fish & Calamari were perfectly cooked! It's rare to find a place that has fresh calamari (not frozen) that's cooked perfectly & not overdone you can taste it. Service is awesome they know what they're serving & what they're doing. We had fried calamari & fried flounder sandwich. Decided to stop for a quick beer & bite. Beers are mostly local. Flounder was also fresh (not previously frozen) and it shows. They have a prime location, and a quaint restaurant. We loved the outdoor dining area. The food was great, our table had the caprese salad, she crab soup, the fried flounder, crab cakes, fried shrimp, seared scallops, and blackened chicken tacos. Everyone left dinner very full and extremely happy. The reason for the 4 stars is that the service was lacking; our waitress was beyond friendly, and those who helped her were also friendly. The issues were that once we had received our meals, the waters were no longer getting refilled, and we had to wait a while before we even saw our waitress to get our check. It was a decently busy night, being that it is Memorial Day weekend, but the restaurant was full when we were seated, and actually emptied out towards the end of our meal. My new find! I had been curious about this place for awhile, so when I wanted to meet my southside friend for dinner, we decided to try it. It is small, so I expect it will get busy in the summer. The food was great and service friendly. I was particularly thrilled with the fresh sides. When you see mixed vegetables on a menu, they usually come from a bag, but these were fresh and sauteed perfectly. I had fried shrimp and my friend had fish tacos. Both delicious! The best though is that I can get there in 20 min from Yorktown, and my Ghent friend can meet me in 20 as well. They have different specials most weeknights, so definitely check them out! read more

We discovered a great little neighborhood seafood place, and we fully intend to become regulars. Located right on the marina near the entrance to the HRBT, the setting is perfect for a local fish spot. The menu is very limited, but everything we had was prepared perfectly. The steamed shrimp were a good size and we done just right and served with plenty of melted butter. I had the blackened rockfish, which was deliciously seasoned, while juicy and cooked just right. My wife had the fried shrimp, which again was cooked just right and crispy with the perfectly light amount of breading. The cole slaw was also delicious, with a unique slighly spicy finish. We finished with the house-made key lime pie, which was amazing. The crust was incredibly buttery and the filling dense and delicious. It is a cozy little place, with only four tables, more on the deck when the weather allows. They also have some nice specials, we plan on coming back soon for half price steamed shrimp on Thursday nights and flounder night on Wednesdays. My only criticism is some of the wine markup is excessive (3x on some very basic bottles), but they do have some really tasty tropical drinks that are fairly priced.
