They are short staffed, and nobody has an answer as to how the injury occurred to my family members who are residents there. They have not been there more than 2 weeks and have fallen and been hospitalized for a severe head injury and a broken clavicle. Yet when we initially visited the facility, they portrayed this place as a loving, caring and nurturing facility for seniors. I wonder how many other residents there have fallen or been injured due to negligent service. If this facility is not equipped to handle the large number of residents they have, then they need to focus on hiring more staff and provide ample training. I would definitely not give this place not one star rating at all. Not only is it very expensive, but it is also so negligent in its care for their residents. My grandfather had bruising, swollen lip and a cut on his right knee. My grandmother fell a total of 5 times broken clavicle and head injury along with bleeding. Like, I said they have not been there more than 2 weeks. Just Horrible care.

I went to visit her and immediately smelled that she had gone to the bathroom and took her to her room, the nursing director came in and asked me to keep her in her chair for lunch I just looked at her and said don't you smell that she needs to be changed she just stared at me. The facility smells like piss and shit so she might have gone nose blind. It took 30 minutes for her to be changed. Then they told me that she had a UTI because they had left her in her diaper to long. Was very pissed to hear that. I asked the nurse why my mother was wearing someone else's clothes since I had just bought her brand new ones, the nurse told me that they were from the lost and found and that she didn't want to take the tags off the new clothes I had bought. Weird logic. I understand they have activities and want the residents to be involved but they clearly saw her crying being uncomfortable and rather than taking her to her room to be alone and get comfortable forced her to interact. They seem to want to make it easy for them not easier for the residents.

This place is under new management and when my family member who lives at Essington place in…read moreJoliet., told me the changes they make under this new management they removed all most all former employees and the food is not as good and the new activities coordinator is not as good as the last one she foget what she doing or does not do anything at all. Now they no longer have someone there 24/7 the residents are by there self at night they now are hooked up to an emergency call button. Ok everything changes under new management. But when my family member told me that is place has no regards for there safety even when residents go to management several times with a concern for the safety of a resident and management refuse to check on that resident because this is independent living and I will not check on this resident. I'm writing this review because if you care about your love one do not go to ESSINGTON PLACE IN JOLIET. No one check on this former resident until three days later when a different manager came back from vacation.
