The facility is beautifully maintained, featuring lovely gardens, a cozy fireside room for reading/socializing, and a welcoming dining room (among other things). Residents are treated like family. The staff is absolutely outstanding! They really take the time to get to know each and every resident, and it's oh-so-evident how much they care. Not only are they responsive to my questions, but they always seem to be a step ahead with whatever my mother needs. There are an abundance of activities to cater to any interest: games, musical performances, meditation, exercise, crafts. Residents are encouraged to participate, but they're left with plenty of autonomy to decide for themselves. The dining room feels like an actual restaurant. The servers quickly learned my mother's preferences, making her feel incredibly special. The food is excellent, and it's always served with warmth and a smile. The director of the Birches leads with love. She sets the tone for the whole place, and it comes across in everything they do. I could go on and on. They understand the issues, circumstances, and personalities and do a fabulous job matching you with the right candidate. The caregivers they provided were very knowledgeable in handling all issues and situations. The caregivers took such wonderful care of everyone and many of them were with us for many years. They became like family and we are still in contact with many of them. While I originally needed caregivers for live-in and long-term, there were times that I needed help for short periods of time. At one time, I needed an additional caregiver to be there for the nights as my aunt wasn't sleeping and on hospice, and the regular caregiver needed to sleep. It was night-to-night since we didn't know how long my aunt was going to live and they were able to provide that for me the same day as requested. With my brother-in-law, he was expected to be released from the hospital-to-home and on hospice. I needed someone immediately and had all the confidence in the world that Elizabeth would provide me with someone without meeting them prior. And again, this was a short term due to him being on hospice. When my great aunt turned 100, she was getting weak and we took her to the doctor and I asked if it was time for hospice and his response was we didn't need hospice. "There is not a hospice in the world that could do a better job caring for her than her wonderful caregiver". When my Mom passed away, my neighbor actually hired my Mom's caregiver after seeing how good she was to my Mom. I have recommended Friendly Domestic to several friends who have used them as well for both live-in and live-out and they all have been as pleased and happy with them as I was.
