You can barely see downtown in the distance today because it's overcast but on a clear day it's a great view!

This place has changed a lot over the years but the family that bought it three years ago is putting some money into it now. The course can be a little rough still but it's got great views of the entire North Shore and the city. They just opened foodservice a few weeks ago with a new chef and today while we were playing there was a big party on the patio of the clubhouse. They also have a field where they have a stage set up and to the side a bricked area where they sell drinks and perhaps do more food service. 20 years ago this place had very tall grasses on the sides kind of like the courses in the UK, links style. They've cut all those grasses down so if you're wild now and you have a good idea in which direction your ball went you can pretty much find it. Given that, it's a lot easier than it used to be. Greens however can be pretty difficult. Some have multiple shelves or slope almost the entire green. The par threes are quite short and very easy to reach. Unfortunately they have a lot of ants that burrow up through the greens and leave a little piles of sand. You almost need to bring a broom because it takes a while to knock down all those little piles that are in the path between your ball in the hole. Am giving it four stars because of the food service, the very nice clubhouse and staff and the potential it has to be a nice larger golf course maybe next year or the year after.

This is a really great course. It's a bit shorter than standard but there are plenty of nice, challenging holes to really test your inner McIlroy. The location of this course is in Suburban Chicago on top of a hill, which offers a very breathtaking view of the city skyline and surrounding area. The course itself is well maintained with moderate greens and a few sand bunkers to help improve on the all important short game. I really like the short game practice hole too! The course is complete with a decent sized clubhouse and practice range which has natural grass, a big bonus in my opinion. The staff is nice and helpful as well but no course Marshall or starter as far as I've seen. Also, since this course is atop a hill, it provides a quiet environment with little to no traffic noise or distraction. The one thing to keep in mind is that you need to be accurate. The high grass on the narrower holes swallows golf balls and eats them for four square meals. Also, since it's links style, there is no shade so pack plenty of water! Overall though I'll certainly be back many times next season!

9th hole tee box. You can kinda see the Chicago skyline just to the left of me.

This place is a dump! Haha, it's just located on top of an old garbage dump. One of the main drawbacks to Chicagoland is the flatness, so the elevated highlands was a unique experience. I could even see the Chicago skyline in the distance! As well as strip mall after strip mall... As for the course, it's a pretty solid links style track. No trees, just rolling fairways, solid pro style sand traps and lots of tall grass (stay away!). I love the elevated tees on 7 & 9 - the later gives you the cool view of the skyline. I played from the back tees and it was long enough to be challenging but short enough where you could still score well. No trees means lots of wind, which adds a challenge to every swing you take. The negatives: every hole was pretty straight. A few more doglegs would be nice. Plus, the service was "above par" - there was no starter (on a fairly busy Saturday). So a few of us had to group off, as there were a lot of people wanting to tee off at the same time. Plus, the bathrooms in the clubhouse were out of order. There was no backup port-a-potties waiting - so I had to hold it in until I had lunch at the Portillo's in Skokie! Overall, this was a pretty sweet course. It's more unique and better kept than most of the courses in and around the city. I plan on playing here again. I give it FORE stars!

I just came back from Ireland and, minus any ocean OB, this is real links golf - wind, tall grasses.

From the food to the room to the groom. The first thing that stood out was the service. The entire staff was friendly and helpful when we were checking in. We showed up a little early and the gentleman at the front made some calls and we were able to get into the room. Started off on the right foot. The room was cool. Clean. Well maintained but nothing extra. The photos are accurate. The restaurant/bar has a great breakfast menu. We got a breakfast burrito and it was delicious with hot and crispy potatoes. The best part about the Glen Club is the golfing option. We didnt get onto the course but my party got onto the range and hit some balls. The view of the golf course while you are in the back of the club is amazing. Especially during sunset. Overall: Great club

At that point we decided to play best-ball scramble style. And realized that there were solo players behind us in carts. We let them play through and didn't see a single person until the final hole. During the time when there was nobody in front of us or behind us we were approached 3 more times by the marshal telling us that "people were calling the clubhouse and we needed to speed up." We then couldn't even tee off of another hole because one of the residents decided to have a prom party on the tee box and had hundreds of high schoolers take pictures on the tee box. Until the service gets better I cannot recommend this course. You would be better off playing at just about any other north side course or even a true muni. At greens prices over $200, it just doesn't make sense to have service like this.

No cart girl and the turn doesn't get you very close for a snack. The closest you get is on 7/8. Some frustrating moments of hitting a fine shot and just having a ball disappear. Think it might just be one of those cursed courses with the way the grass/leaves/shadows combine. Holes are nice to look at but overall I just wasn't wowed.

It suffers (from time to time, as all public courses do) from an inability of players to fix their ball marks on the greens, but overall everything is in really great shape. I'd give the course itself 4 stars for play and value. But the staff in the pro shop is absolutely top notch and get 6 stars. They have been extremely helpful and easy to work with a number of issues that I've had - always pleasant, always working to make your life easy on the course and always striving to (and achieving) give the guest the best possible golf experience. Also, if you are a bird watcher and lover, you cannot top the several hawks that live on the third and fourth holes, and which can be seen elsewhere throughout the course. Thanks to Matt Radde and his staff. This place is a local gem.

In 3 lessons, he has helped to improve my grip, stance, and swing (backswing and follow through). HOWEVER, my experience was completely soured by his attitude and demeanor. The very first lesson was scheduled for a Thursday at 5pm. I left work early at 4 and according to the GPS I would arrive at 4:41pm with plenty of time to spare. However, I have not been out to Deerfield before and there was heavy traffic on the freeway and the roads leading to the club. I parked my car at 5:05 and quickly walked over to the range. At exactly 5:08 I passed a gentleman in a blue shirt driving away from the range in a golf cart. Not knowing where to meet (there were no signs or previous instructions) I asked the lady at the range office and she told me that Mr. Jan is usually at the end of the range teaching, but she had not seen him, so she told me to wait at the entrance with her and another staff member. We waited until about 5:25 and still did not see him, and were becoming concerned. The staff commented that "he's usually only 5-10 min late, so this is strange". I then saw the same gentleman from before come up from the opposite side this time and parked at the end of the range. I asked if that was Mr. Jan and at first the staff said no, but then a minute later said they thought it was. So I walked over and introduced myself, apologized for being late, and tried to quickly explain the mix-up - but I barely got through my first sentence. When I mentioned that I actually passed right by him at 5:08 not knowing it was him (no name tag or clothing to indicate anyone working there), to my surprise, Mr. Jan immediately cut me off and told me "no you didn't, no way" and that I was wrong and was much later that that. He said he waited until 5:15 before leaving (absolutely untrue), and that I was lucky he even came back, implying he would normally take off in case a student was late. I again apologized for being late but he continued to berate me for being tardy, saying that other professionals charge $160/lesson and that students wouldn't dare to be late. He questioned why I did not call or text or e-mail - I tried to explain that I was driving and trying to find the place, but he did not want to hear it. At this point it was 5:30 and he told me I have until 6pm so "do you want to hit some balls or what?". I just shut my mouth and went through the half hour lesson instead of the full hour I paid for. After the lesson I apologized again and promised that I would not be late again, now that I know where the club was and the traffic conditions. My 2nd lesson was the following Tuesday at 3pm. I left extra early this time and arrived at the range (where we met last time) at 2:41pm exactly. I waited until 3:05 but no one showed up. I walked to the pro shop and they told me no one had seen Mr. Jan that day and to just wait at the range. I waited at the range until 3:20 and went back to the pro shop again to ask for Mr. Jan's phone number. I called (no answer) and left a voicemail saying I would be heading back to work shortly. A few minutes later I received a text message from a different number saying he was with a client and would be there in 2 minutes. After confirming that was in fact Mr. Jan I went back to the range. Around 3:25 Mr. Jan showed up the range and acted as if nothing happened - no apology at all. I was shocked that the previous week he was so upset I was 8 minutes late, yet he was almost a half hour late this time (and since I was early, I waited almost 50 minutes total). He did say he tried to call me but it must have been my father's number since he bought the Groupon for me. I later asked my father and he confirmed he did not receive any phone calls. Although we started at almost 3:30, the lesson ended before 4:20 (again less than the full 1 hour), and Mr. Jan was frequently checking his cell phone while I hit the practice balls by myself. My 3rd lesson was the following Tuesday, again at 3pm. I arrived even earlier this time at 2:38pm. I thought to myself there is no way this guy will be late again this time. But sure enough, Mr. Jan did not show up until 3:07pm - again, no apology and no explanation! I was bewildered. I really should have said something, but I am not the confrontational type and went through the lesson and thanked him for his time. When I was scolded for being late the first lesson, I thought to myself "boy, this guy is a true professional, and will not tolerate tardiness" and I can definitely respect that - after all, his time must be very valuable. So I made it a point to be on time - in fact, VERY early from then on. Unfortunately, it turns out that Mr. Jan is consistently late to his lessons (if the staffs' comments are any indication) and he is an obvious hypocrite. For that reason alone, I will not be back.
