Nice layout. Not too long from the women's tees. Can be slow pace as 4 young men who were walking played extremely slow. Skipped the 7th hole to finish v Sand traps are UNPLAYABLE!! All mud. Staff is very friendly and we teed off on time. read more

This review is mostly for the staff and course amenities and is from encounters with them over the summer of 2022- both on the course and in the restaurant and halfway house. The golf staff is a mixed bag of folks - some pleasant and others downright rude. In this business you need employees who are good at customer service and don't have an attitude. The office/clubhouse folks were all fine. Nice enough however some a tad slow and often bunches of them are in the clubhouse and no one is outside at the bag drop. One starter - an older, blond haired guy with a German accent - was downright rude. Makes a person not want to play there! He was muttering under his breath checking us in, complaining about where the carts were placed on the narrow path by his check in stand (not his fault-just bad design of the paths) and scowling all the time. The woman at the halfway house was beyond rude and should not be allowed to work in customer service. Maybe she was bored because no one stops there due to her attitude and the crazy high prices such as the fact that they won't give you ice water in a cup "I sell water" she nastily commented. "You have to fill your own container in back at the fountain." So if I don't want to buy a sugary drink or beer and I didn't bring a water bottle I have to buy bottled $5 water after paying $60+ to pay a round? Now that's really bad policy - penny wise and pound foolish. The restaurant servers as everywhere are overworked and lack training. The menu is okay (food was covered in a separate post) but the draft beers are way, way overpriced. This is not a destination bar people go to in order to have a good time, this is a golf clubhouse restaurant that serves beer and drinks for golfers to enjoy and spend MORE money after their round. If they want us to stay, they need to be reasonably priced or we will go somewhere else. The golf course after reopening certainly has better drainage than before in most former trouble areas however numerous changes to the course make it maddening to play there. Perhaps they are trying to weed out occasional golfers and only want their clientele who always ride the $20 per person rental carts. First they no longer have colored flags nor do they use the 1,2,3 system to identify front, middle and back for the pin. Why? Well we asked and they said it it's because they expect the golfers to use the updated green visualization on the golf carts...but what if you are walking? Too bad - you'll have no idea where the pin is unless you have a range finder. Great job planning that feature. Not. Second they no longer have distance markers at the side of the fairways as they had in the past. You must walk to the middle of the fairway and find them to see where those markers are and then pace back to your ball. That's fine if you are always right in the middle AND always hitting your shots within 10 yards of those markers otherwise they are hard to find or see. Third is the ongoing lack of ball mark repairing on the greens and of the divots on tee boxes. This is partially an indication of the greens keepers lack of detail AND the lack of etiquette of the players who play here. If they are not fixed overnight by the greens keepers then the first players will find the greens and tee boxes in horrible shape and they won't repair their ballmarks and divots either and it just keeps getting worse. Fourth is the drink cart that if you are lucky to see has no ice or cups. What? Is this part of the "force them to buy water" policy? Now I realize that decent help is hard to find these days however some of these issues are problems of bad management and lack of training as well as poorly designed course course features. It almost seems like non golfers designed some of these policies and changes because they make no good sense in a normal golf world. Am hoping the 2023 season will bring better trained, more customer focused and friendly staff, a return to better on course golf amenities and more reasonable restaurant pricing - especially on draft beer. read more

Heritage Oaks Golf Club - Looking down 5th hole from cart path by tees - Country Clubs Near Me - Northbrook, Illinois

The obvious update here other than the name change is the clubhouse and the driving range which has a 'shot tracker gizmo' that tells you how far you hit your ball. With a new parking lot and the removal of the pond in front of the old clubhouse the walk is much shorter. The new clubhouse is gorgeous and is I hit in my book. The restaurant is still working through covid and growing pains. There's a beautiful patio and floor to ceiling windows providing a view out to the golf course. They are definitely reaching out to non-golfers for breakfast, lunch and dinner. In fact they now have a Friday Fish Fry. The downside to keeping the golf course closed for over a year is what they didn't do. Theres still a drainage problem on a couple holes and the crappy cart paths needed to be repaved. A few of the greens were reconfigured but others need attention. I also think the course maintenance folks need to mow the ruff shorter to make finding even a slightly wayward shot easier to find so the pace of play can be improved. Maybe they'll have more folks working after this covid crap slows down. Oh, and many thanks for cutting down that giant Willow tree on 17! read more

This is my home course, and it pales comparison to deerfield golf club. First, the food and drinks during the round are ridiculously expensive and awful. For example, a can of transfusion was $9.77. And the hotdogs are premade and wrapped so the buns are nice and soggy. The greens were awful today. The slowest greens I've ever played. I tried getting a drink at the turn in the clubhouse and it took 10 mins. This place is not new, you can make improvements on the process and at least the pricing. If you are going to charge 65-70 dollars for a round, act like a 70 dollar course. The driving range is nice though. Trackman is helpful. read more

First, the good: This is a really nice course, well maintained. It's challenging as there are a lot of bunkers and if your chip to the green is a bit off, you can roll pretty far away from where you want to be. Now for the bad: The rangers are constantly after you to pick up the pace of your game. They are referred to there as "player assistants." The only thing they assisted with is aggravating us. The first ranger was extremely rude. By the 3rd hole he was jawing at us for playing too slow. We weren't standing around talking or drinking, and we were 5 minutes off pace at that time. He tells us our pace of play was "unacceptable." Talking to a bunch of grown men like we're in high school. He held us up for close to 5 minutes with his ranting which further slowed us down. How is that helpful? Not once did the group behind us have to wait to tee off because of us, and not once did the group in front of us make us wait. But the rangers were on us to play faster even though we were only 5 - 10 minutes off pace. A second ranger came by later on, but was much more respectful. But by then we were all pretty much in agreement that we aren't coming back. A shame too, because it's a nice course and close to where I live. I understand that they need to keep golfers moving so as not to hold up everyone else. But I play golf to enjoy it, and relax. Not to be chased by overzealous rangers about our pace of play. When you are rushed, your game will suffer and you spend even more time looking for errant balls because of rushing. If we need to move faster, you can let us know but be more respectful about it. I don't appreciate being talked down to. We were focused on our game, not doing anything intentionally to slow down. I wouldn't recommend this course unless you and your group are skilled enough to play 18 holes in 4 hours. Which is a clip of about 13 1/2 minutes per hole. Otherwise you will be harassed by the golf police. read more

Great course, complete jerk of a marshal. We had a round on July 8th that we were very excited about. It was pouring rain and there was no one in front of us for at least 3 holes. This marshal begins following us in the pouring rain from hole 2 through hole 9. He parks up behind us, shouts, talks, and is a menace in our back swings. He then tells us WE need to pick up pace of play, despite no one being anywhere near us. He highlights the group behind us... which is 1 hole back, still on the putting green. ONE ENTIRE HOLE BACK AND STILL PUTTING. He told us he mentioned to them that they need to pick up pace of play and so do we. We clearly were not the problem with pace that day, but he still pressured us to play faster. Any person with a set of eyes could see how wrong he was. He then continued to follow us every shot and every hole until we get to #9. We started at 7:30am. We finished the front 9 at, wait for it, 9:28am. This guy ruined an already difficult round with the rain. We were singing praises about this place the first time we played. I very much doubt we will be back after this. If you are going to harp on pace of play, maybe look at a watch and realize we were playing at pace if not faster than most golfers. Honestly unreal to experience such an ego after forking over as much money as we did for the round. Get over your power trip dude. read more

I golfed there today with 3 buddies as a 4some. We're a fun group, handicap's about 15, like to have fun, not looking for anything super formal or serious. So we thought why not heritage oaks? Unfortunately our grand experience was slighted by constant hounding from the marshal to speed up our play. To be fair, there were 3 open holes in front of us. We were maintaining a 4.5hour pace, which isn't bad at all in my opinion. It should be noted that the 4some behind us was never waiting on us to finish a shot. the hounding was every other hole. The problem with this course is, the libation stand is on 4 holes. Real golfers like to drink and eat, maybe even light up a cigar when they're not working. When i confronted the marshal about our heavy spending habits at these stands, which takes time, he ignored me and drove off. when i asked the starter at the end of the round the typical pace he stated " i have never seen anyone golf a 4.5 hour pace at this course". i was shocked. not a "thanks for coming hope you enjoyed yourself." Not an once of appreciation for the patron and a concern for our experience. we ended the round with a jab to the gut. I again told him we were sorry we were 25mins off the standard time (4hrs 10mins is the avg), we were stopping to buy beers every chance we could, my statement was ignored. 2 stars for course. 0 stars for the experience. golf courses are like restaurants in Chicago, great food is abundant, it's the experience that sets these places apart. Would play again but wouldn't spend a penny on food or drinks for fear of being verbally spearheaded for taking the time to do so. read more

Decent course. Tee boxes weren't maintained very well and the hole placement was absolutely horrendous for a public course (less than 10 yards from the backs of the green and on the apex of slopes). Really tough. Glizzies were 10/10. Good time overall but gosh darn the greens keepers had it out for everyone. read more

it's completely underrated course is amazing went here for my sons UA tournament and driving range is just phenomenal

The ranger was rude and tried to get us to play scramble even though we were right behind the group ahead. He came to our group 3 times and lied about how far the other group was even though we can see them. Also after we wrapped up a couple of the employees made rude remarks about how long we took even though on our golf cart monitor it showed we were 2 mins ahead of schedule. Hopefully they can give the employees proper training so future customers don't have to deal with this. read more

Sportsmans has a new name, a new club house but boy it it a miss on the golf course. The drainage is terrible, just awful. Much worse than before the renovations, if that's even possible. And the course conditions are equally awful. Maybe golfers don't know to replace their divots... the East 9 is all hacked up. Pretty pathetic for a course that's been open for less than a month. Just hosted a double baby shower at Heritage Oaks today. The day was perfect. The venue is beautiful. The staff were incredibly attentive. The food was delicious. The weather was perfect. I received so many compliments on the venue and food. I couldn't be happier! read more
