a day ago We were there last night...HUGE disappointment. We were looking forward to a nice evening. We got the opposite. We arrived on time for our 6:30pm reservation ..we were finally taken in at ten to 7 . I wanted the table by the water, but was told by grumpy server that there was a long wait for that table due to Covid protocol. They tried to instead split up my party of 5 into 2 different tables. Of course we refused, and they brought two tables together..it really irked me to see that the table I had first wanted be given to the next party less than a minute after we were seated. Our server was not at all friendly and gave robotic replies to our requests..kinda went like this: " we'll have the dim sums". "we're out of that". .."um ok then..he'll have burger" "we re out of burgers".. "prime rib ..?" "out".. So yeah it would have been nice (and smart) to inform the patrons of what's missing from the menu. When you leave people for 10 minutes to decide on a menu, only for for them to find out you're out of major parts of it ,not only are you wasting more time, you now have a bunch of disappointed people who are scrambling to find an alternative ,because the last thing they want is to be left another 10 minutes without an order. As she placed our sugary drinks on the Wrought iron table, it's spilled on to our feet through the tiny decorative holes . Not wanting to make a fuss we asked her for 2 cups of water since the sticky juice was now attracting bugs. She never brought the water. We got up to the bar and got it ourselves. Fast forward to the food. It was TERRIBLE. The crab cakes were complete bread, the so called New York strip was grey and overcooked. . Don't know about you but we like our steak seared on the outside and pink on the inside. Not grey on the outside and grey on the inside.. I gotta talk about the "mashed potatoes" ....If you're going to charge restaurant prices and serve instant mash, at least disguise it with butter and salt. The instant mash tasted like it was brought from a hospital cafeteria. As we went to look for own check and paid the bill we could not run out of there faster. Such a disparity from the first time I went there. Sometimes you get bad food , sometimes you get bad service... but when you get both , there is no excuse.. We were recommended to go there, as it was reported to be a lovely locale. It was lovely, but we made a reservation inside, since weather was a bit dicey. Unfortunately, the food was really not very good. I ordered the filet mignon, and although I specifically requested "pink" in the middle, it arrived raw. They took it back to the kitchen. This time around, it was better, but the cut of meat (for $42) was awful. Gristly and fatty. To be honest, I should have sent it back a second time for a new cut of meat, but instead I just left half of it. The waitress (Aleks) asked if I wanted a box...ugh, no thank you. My partner's meal was similarly bland and uninspired. Seasonal vegetables consisted of overcooked peppers...honestly. Not actually in season (altho they may be somewhere, just not here in this area). And the salad that began the meal consisted of iceberg lettuce and shredded carrots as the main ingredients. Our meal was expensive, and easily the worst meal we had in Stroudsburg. Altogether disappointing. I'd strongly suggest that you save your money; try another spot. read more

Each time we go to the Willow Tree Inn we have a great meal in a great setting. Yesterday we dined outside on the deck for a peaceful Sunday brunch. Everything was plated well and delicious. The young lady who served us couldn't have been nicer. The lady who greeted us as we entered and also hosted at the bar, told me a few historic facts before we were seated about the tannery, then turned into a home & then turned into the Willow Tree Inn. I went to the Willowtree Inn today with my husband and two small children. Overall I think it's an excellent place to eat. My children both had french bread pizza off of the children's menu. Their pizza was crispy and delicious. It came with a side of fries that my children enjoyed and some pickles. The pizza and fries were large for smaller kids so we had enough for another meal to bring home. Their meals also came with a brownie sundae which was large and very good. The ice cream consisted of two decent size scoops of vanilla ice creamand it was next to whip cream and a rather large brownie. I had a Cuban sandwich with pesto. It came with sour cream and hot sauce. It also came with coleslaw and mashed potatoes. To drink I had unsweetened Iced tea. The Cuban came on a Portuguese roll. It was a nice size and came with plenty of meat on it. It tasted great. The coleslaw was decent. The potatoes were the best I have tried in a long time. One review on here stated they were instant flakes. Unless she had something different than me than she is 100% wrong. You could see the bit of cooked potato and tiny bits of skin so it was made at the restaurant with real potatoes. The serving was about a scoop, but I was happy with that amount because I was got mostly filled up on the sandwich. My tea was delicious and unique. It was made with a taste of orange and cloves. My husband had the prime rib. He is very picky person and still said it tasted excellent. He also had a scoop of mashed potatoes, a side of vegetables and a side salad. His only complaint was that the meat was a bit fatty. He also felt they could have gave him a bit more of veggies. Either way he was happy with his meal because it tasted so good . The decor is unique and beautiful. We were seated on the patio overlooking the water. It was a lush and gorgeous view. It also kept my children happy. The only complaints was no one ever asked if we wanted something to drink and my husband did see the waiter go and drink from a wine glass herself without asking us if we wanted anything. Our table was also not cleaned off when they wanted to seat us so we had to wait for it to get cleaned up. We also had no silverware and had to ask for some. Other than some mild issues with the that part of the service everything else was wonderful. The chef at this place is really gifted. I will be going back to the Willowtree Inn again. There are some interesting entrees on the menu that I would love to try with my family and friends another time. read more

I spent an afternoon there a few months back. The food was overpriced for very small portions (charging $13 for four small half-frozen shrimp served as the shrimp cocktail, along with still partially frozen cocktail sauce served in a small single serving plastic container along with lid), under-seasoned, seasoned incorrectly in general, coupled alongside extremely stale bread, and overall nowhere near authentic to the cuisine that they are attempting to emulate. The meal was so unpleasant that we were unable to finish more than the first few bites, throwing it away ultimately. The owner disputed my review I had left on google, making false claims regarding the service, and had the pictures of the meals (that were taken moments after being served to us) as well as general ones of the venue removed from their page. Very disappointing behavior from the owner, and a shame for a location that was reputedly once one of the most prestigious in town years ago. Definitely will never return. read more

Salad with house dressing was great. Cocktail was really good. Dinner went downhill from there. Prime rib was not good. Chicken was tasteless. One of the worst meals I've had in a long time. There seemed to be no alcohol in the drinks. My steak was flavorless and covered with what tasted like canned gravy. My friend's crab cake had little crab in it. The mashed potatoes tasted like a box mix, and they served corn on the cob instead of a green vegetable. The Willow Tree Inn restaurant has been in our area for many years. I love the "Wayfair" open faced hot turkey sandwich. The detail and care they use in preparing the food makes the quality above the rest. Herb is a phenomenal chef. The food he prepares is consistent and always delicious. The water-view from the window seats is beautiful. I Can't wait to take advantage of the outside seating in the summertime. I would recommend this restaurant to everybody. read more

I don't like giving a business negative reviews. I think you have to be careful as I dont want to hurt anyone's livelihood. But, here goes. First, the exterior dining decks are cute. Enjoyed the view. The interior is...dated. But I can't eat a view or decorations. I ordered the crab cakes. Admitedly, I'm a crabcake snob. But the amount of crab in the crabcakes were minimal - barely detectable. The taste was uninspired and simply- just not good. If my eyes were closed I'd have to "guess" it was crab. The Mashed potatoes were a single lump of nothing special. (I'll let my wife speak for her own dinner, if she wants to. Spoiler Alert: It won't be stellar.) I understand the chef is a graduate of the CIA, Culinary Institute of America. He may need a refresher course if our experience is an example of his expertise. read more

How can something so beautiful be so disappointing? Never before have I had such a pitiful meal in such a picturesque setting. My friend found this place while doing research for our one-day trip to the Poconos. The website had looked promising, and the three of us decided that Willowtree Inn was a great spot to stop by for a leisurely Saturday lunch. When we pulled into a gravel parking lot, almost every spot was taken. I figured it had to have been a good sign. As we walked in, we noticed that the place was indeed quite full. Graduation and confirmation lunches were in full swing, our waitress would later explain. No wonder I felt so underdressed in my once navy blue "2003 Leadership Retreat" t-shirt! While we waited, my friend, who went to inquire about a table, was chatting it up with the hostess. I couldn't quite hear the conversation, but it seemed like the hostess was telling her about the specials, which I found weird. Apparently, due to "special occasion" celebrations, Willowtree Inn was only serving dinner. "Sure, why not?" we thought. We asked for a table inside, but then called an audible at the very last second and decided to grab a table on one of the patios. The setting was serene and almost idyllic. The tiny 4-table patio was surrounded by willow trees (hence the name of the restaurant) and overlooked a babbling brook. I immediately felt the aftereffects of the 300-mile drive (complete with a stop at a Wilkes-Barre Kmart) just washing away. Ahhhhh. When our waitress finally showed up, we could tell that she was not having the best day. She wasn't incredibly friendly or talkative at first, but the three of us were able to turn her frown upside down by the end of the meal. Hey, anyone can have a bad day. We've all been there. I wish she had spent more time explaining the menu, though. Deep in thought, she seemed to have forgotten what she was doing at Willowtree Inn. The menu choices were very uninspired, and I had a hard time picking something I really wanted. So, I settled on a steak with potatoes and vegetables. Our waitress didn't bother asking us or even explaining to us what potatoes and vegetables we were getting, but it's OK. Who doesn't like the element of surprise when it comes to food, right? My steak also came with a salad, which, I was told, came with the "house vinaigrette" dressing. I guess I didn't have a choice, but luckily I like vinaigrette. The salad dressing turned out to be a disappointment as well. I am no chef, but is vinaigrette really supposed to be white and frothy? I was confused, and so was my friend who ordered the same salad. My entree was even more disappointing. The steak was chewy and fatty; a low grade cut of supermarket beef. It was NOT medium rare, either. My friend who had the lamb felt exactly the same way. I tried a piece of lamb, and it tasted like something you would get on an airplane. Oh, the vegetable of the day was string beans, my favorite. However, these string beans were overcooked: they lost all their green luster when they were boiled into an unrecognizable, mushy state. Yuck. Also, $26 was way too much to pay for cafeteria quality food. At least by the time our waitress brought us the dessert tray, we were all friends. She was talking to us about life and work. Sadly, it didn't persuade us to get dessert, and we walked away from the table without ordering any. I didn't feel compelled to order any more food here, in spite of the beautiful surroundings. The food really deserves only one star, but I am giving Willowtree Inn two stars out of respect for Mother Nature. read more

I have always really enjoyed the Willowtree for many years but I'm sad to say not today. We went to celebrate a family occasion and had an early reservation. We were the only table when we sat down and we waited, and waited and waited. Finally a very unfriendly girl came to take a drink order and didn't know if they had martinis or what type of beer they had so she left to get a menu , probably 30 steps away, and didn't return for 20 minutes. She drops off menus and walks away without taking the drink order! Another 20 minutes and we Finally order drinks and I can see we are going to have a problem so I had the foresight to ask to order a couple of hors dourves she seems terribly annoyed but grudgingly acquiesce to our request. Drinks are good appetizers come they are good except she bring the baked Brie with nothing, no crackers, no bread, no fruit are we supposed to scoop hot melted cheese with our hands and lick it off. We ask her for bread or crackers whatever they are supposed to serve with it, she is again annoyed and walks off. 15 minutes pass and she brings a plate with a couple crackers unfortunately the cheese is now cold and congealed but she walks off. By this time there are a couple of other tables, not hers, and we see they are getting nice baskets of bread, we repeatedly asked her for bread, never got it. Our dinners came but we still had no silverware. The food was very good but the effort to get any type of service was so frustrating you wanted to just end the experience. Being gluttons for punishment we say yes when she asks if we would like to see the dessert menus, we than spend the next 20 minutes watching her walk past us with no menus, I finally get up and get the menus myself. We ordered dessert, waited and waited, one of our party got up and left it was so long. The meal was good but the experience was horrific, we understand that there are problems that server's have no control over, several of our party are in the hospitality industry and know very well, what made this all the more Intolerable was that this girl didn't care at all, she had a lousy attitude and was unpleasant from the moment we got there. read more

My wife and I didn't have a good dining experience. We waited a approximately 50 minutes for our entrees to arrive. When it did, the fish dish my wife ordered, the filet of sole, looked gray, dried at the edges, reeked of a foul fishy odor. It was horrible! Needless to say she didn't eat it. My salmon dish was a bit better but the sides had absolutely no flavor. We skipped dessert knowing we could do much better on Main Street. Consider yourself warned. read more

We went here with 4 people and a 2 year old on Easter Sunday at 5pm. There was a very limited menu. We got chicken fingers for the baby, prime rib, fish and lamb. Not one person liked the food. The baby didn't even eat chicken fingers, they were dried out and stiff. We sent the prime rib back because it was ALL fat. The fish was cold and dry and the lamb was more like mystery meat. When we commented on the prime rib being too fatty, we were told that the restaurant 'pays extra for the marbling'. The salads were swimming in dressing and cans of beer served with rocks glasses that had water standing in the bottom. And this was a very expensive meal! So, obviously we won't be back, we had to go back home and eat frozen pizza for Easter dinner...and it was way better than the food at Willowtree. DO NOT GO! read more

Attended a bridal shower here, and everything was just lovely. The shower was in the back of restaurant overlooking lovely foliage, and great sunlight coming in - very relaxing and enjoyable atmosphere. The food and service was very good, don't know what the sauce was on the chicken but everyone was raving about it, and also the fish entre, trying to figure out how to make it themselves! Beginning with the cutlery, I was given 2 salad forks that lacked the quality one might expect from a spork in an MRE. No draft beer? Our burgers were terrible with "iffy" meat and the "smashed potatoes" were instant and not cooked correctly (c'mon they come with instructions and who serves mashed potatoes with burgers? Got fryer problems along with your draft taps?) And the outside bar has carelessly stacked chairs and is an eyesore. Inside expect old nasty carpet and needing a coat of paint. I liked this place, regardless of what the old, negative reviews said. This is a place for classy people. Not the scum of the Poconos or pretentious a-hole pious NYers. This place very recently changed their menu, but I had escargot here for lunch, along with the sole. I forget what the boyfriend had but I remember he was very pleased. We both ordered some sort of liquor drink. They had a limited bar, but I made it work for me. We sat inside only because we were limited on time, otherwise we could have and would have loved to sit outside. We did enjoy the 'river' view from inside, however. This is actually a fairly romantic place, had we not been there for a business type lunch that day. read more

The mushroom stuffed with crabmeat appetizer was pretty good, but the entrees were terrible. Different and bland proteins (with odd toppings) that came with the same sweet potato scoop and a quartered red potato. Very bizarre and not good. Our forks were also bent. In my recent visit though, the couple outside on the deck eating next to us said they drove all the way up from Rockaway, NJ just to eat there. That tells you something. It's worth it! My husband and I live 30 miles from the Willowtree Inn and feel it's definitely worth the trip through the beautiful Poconos. We usually go for lunch but have been there for dinner as well. As soon as we walk in the door someone is there to greet and seat us. We prefer to sit outdoors, weather permitting, to enjoy the picturesque willow tree and the lovely creek. The sandwiches are absolutely delicious and we have a hard time deciding which one to order. The menu has several entrees to choose from that should satisfy anyone's palette. Myself, my boyfriend and I needed some food about halfway through our drive home after a weekend of camping. I searched for "Dog friendly" restaurants, and ended up at Willowtree for that reason. I went in myself at first to verify that the pup could eat on the patio with us, and the server asked if she was a service dog. I said no, she isn't, but I read online that you are dog-friendly. He shrugged and showed me to the patio, and I retrieved my dog and BF from the street. Food and service was great, but 3 other staff members stopped by to ask me if she was a service dog, and I continued to state that she was not. No one gave us any trouble, but I'm quiet certain they aren't truly dog friendly, and that if the patio wasn't empty, we may have been turned away. So, the point of my review is that I chose this place so my dog could come, and am grateful she was allowed, but I must warn others that their luck may not be as great. My wife and I went there last week while visiting Stroudsburg. This place is dated and dingy. The waitress was not very personable. They had three choices of draft beer. My wife had some kind of Italian vegetable soup along with an order of wantons which was not notable. I ordered the Sole fish. The sauce was overwhelming so there was no tasting the fish. As a side they served an ear of corn. Who serves an ear of corn with a $24.00 dinner? There was a pretty view of the creek but the Willowtree looked half dead.
