They'll do advice, resales, sell components and equipment or repair jobs. For deep recovery, they referred me out. Bao is very personable and gives a very honest vibe. Pleasant and informative and doesn't over-promise. Will give options at a couple steps if applicable (ie replacement costs, recovery costs). Great thing was, I didn't even have to take a bus to get here! This place is conveniently located on State Street, a fitting spot for students who go to UW- Madison. The repair took a few days because they had to order the part but once it came in, the actual replacement only took a couple hours. By the time I got out of class, my laptop was as good as new. I did get a used part (because it was cheaper and I'm not rich) so there were small scratches but not that many (2-3 perhaps) to actually complain about because they aren't distracting let alone an eyesore. I liked that they did have the option to get a used part, though, instead of getting a brand new one for way more. I did wait a few days before submitting this review because I would've jumped on yelp as soon as I got home from the store but I figured I should wait to see if any malfunctions occurred before I start raving about my experience. Lo and behold, it's been almost a week and my computer is still doing great. One thing I'd like to point out is that the people behind the desk have great costumer service. The guy that I communicated with added some additional services that were of no cost like lightly cleaning my keyboard and adding a screen protector which I found to be really nice. I've already recommended my friends to this place and will come back if I ever need their services again (but hopefully not for my sake).

There is a one-time activation fee that I believe is $25 and it includes a lock (if you need it) that has keys. Otherwise you can use a combo lock as well. When signing up you either need a insurance or pay for their plan which is an additional $9/month. The location is very easy to find and Gerry was super nice getting everything set up and explaining all the processes. He was able to put some bottom pieces to lift up my storage (since in cardboard boxes) since the floor gets cold. Gerry clearly walked through how to open and close the locker. They mentioned that they do daily checks on the units for security and will call you if something happens. There are also cameras dispersed. Overall, it was super pleasant and efficient experience that I would recommend to anyone looking for a space for storage!

Absolutely disgusting business ran by an even more disgusting owner. DO NOT EVER GO HERE. I gave my MacBook laptop away for free because I was told it would never turn on again without a new logic board($800 part they say) FROM WILLY TECH. Thank God for decent humans and that the guy who I gave my laptop to gave me back my completely fine laptop and REPLACED THE BATTERY. THE ONLY THING WRONG WITH IT. That willy st LIED about and charged me $120 to tell me LIES. And they told me my battery wasn't the issue. The Battery was indeed the only fucking issue. Yet they refuse to take any of the blame and are telling me they didn't tell me it was a broken logic board???? oh and the best part no apology and no refund. Lolol. How this place is in business is beyond me. Only thing I wanted back was a video of my Alaska trip I spent hours editing and making. Willy tech was sure to tell me they could never get that back. The amazing guy who replaced my battery and gave the computer back had my video up and playing when I picked it up. Unbelievable. Glad the guy gave me my 1200$ computer back and my alaska video was never even gone. @willytechshop can eat absolute dog shit. :) and this isn't the last they'll be hearing from me. I came in with a very vague problem. My Macbook Pro was acting up and randomly freezing. I took it to the Apple Store and they ran their programs and found no problem with it. The problem the continued to get worse. Desperate, I did a quick search and found these guys. I took a blind shot in the dark and decided to give Willy Tech Shop a chance to fix it. Wow! It took just as long as they said it would, and they were very friendly throughout the experience. I had the great pleasure of working with Josh, and he was extremely patient, understanding, and very honest. He gave me the prices up front and talked me through what he was doing, why he was doing it, and what it could do to help. I got it back and was having an issue importing some files back, I gave them a call and got a call back the next day explaining what I could try to do to solve it. Worked like a charm. If I ever have any more problems this is the only place I will even consider bringing this computer back to. They are very professional, and I am a very impressed customer. read more

I discovered Willy Tech Shop about a year ago and have had nothing but positive experiences with it. I purchased a refurbished MacBook Air laptop, and I am so very happy with it. The technician, Sara, went above and beyond to help, explain and answer the many questions I had. Recently, I went in for one-year check up and assessment. I was impressed by the extreme safety measures they set up to deal with Covid issues. I felt confidently safe being there. Brought an older model MAC "tower" in @2:30 on a Saturday. It hadn't been working since the last thunder storm. Danny took a look and spent over an hour trying to diagnose/help. Learned a lot, he was very helpful, clear in his explanations and ultimately was able to download my info onto a thumb drive. He worked well beyond closing time on a Saturday afternoon. Excellent, expert and courteous service and sales for Apple products. They provided insight and analysis that helped me upgrade and renovate an older 17" MacBook Pro as cost effectively as possible. When I brought in a corrupted external drive (not theirs and not on my watch), they explained what might be possible, didn't over promise, and then resurrected all the available data while charging less than they could have. They know their stuff! No false promises, no high pressure tactics. My older MacBook Pro died a sudden death, and of course I hadn't backed up in a timely fashion. When I took it in I was told exactly what my odds were (not great, but not zero either.) They just kept at it, though, and finally retrieved my data and replaced the bad hard drive and my MacBook works well again. AND I got my data back, but even if I hadn't I'd be happy with the service, since they didn't promise me the world. I appreciate honesty! read more

They are prompt and willing to solve any problem with success. The local atmosphere is postive aswell. They could have dispatched a tech. They also could have sold us a router -- they had one. Instead, they took the time to understand the problem, to contact a competitor (and their partner) and offer a solution -- all this sales engineering at no cost. From the beginning of our network in 2009 to now, they have provided invaluable advice and confirmation. Yes, they will be more expensive (slightly). Yes, they will use brands not sold at big box stores. But, they will know them. I cannot thank them enough. Btw, I did call other stores, and although they were competent and their advice was not wrong, only MCW explained it at our level, and did not push us to change the topology of our network. Please call them.

We picked it up and it's worse than when we dropped it off.

Our largely trouble free desktop computer running Window XP for the past 12 years was having start…read moreup issues. I brought the computer in and met Matt and described the problem. Matt said it could be the motherboard and/or the drive. I protested and told him the computer had no inconsistencies on the drive, no malware, no viruses. He replied "you are talking about psychotherapy and the patient needs a liver transplant." Immediately I appreciated his wry dry humor. I shared with him a parts build I had put together for a custom computer which we wanted to go forward with in September of 2017. For now we wanted a fix to tide us over until then. He warned if it was determined the problem was the motherboard there was no solution for us; he could not get another since ours was 8 generations old; not even an OEM version. The next day he called with devastating news. It indeed was the motherboard. He sent via email pictures of four blown capacitors on the board. At that point I was very fearful that we would lose all our data despite having it all backed up onto an external Western Digital drive via Acronis. I shared that our most important desire was to save all personal documents from each of our (my wife and I) respective profiles and twelve years of music on iTunes. I had just spoken with a support technician at Apple who told me since our version of iTunes was old, the music could not be downloaded into their newest version. Matt said that would depend on the condition of the hard drive, something he would know after examining it. He determined that the surface of the drive was damaged but the hardware supporting the drive was intact. He observed it was a good thing we brought it in since he surmised there was about seven days use out of it left. He did not guarantee he could do what we asked but felt confident he could. My parts list totaled $2,900. Matt went over each component and made recommendations for changes. When we were done my parts list was reduced to $2,100. The price reduction did not represent compromised performance; quite the contrary. With the graphics card I had originally listed Matt said it needs to run at 70 to 80 percent of capacity and if I were not using it in that manner I would not see the benefit whereas I would see MORE performance out of a card that cost less but was more accurately matched for intended use; horses for courses, and so it went with each part including the case. Matts reasoning was so clear it inspired confidence. I pulled my parts from Parts Picker. As I was "building" the computer with each addition of a part the site had a pop up that said "there are no incompatibilities" and continued to say so until the end. Matt said he did see where based on his experience there could be some parts that did not play well with one another. He agreed that the Corsair Vengeance series that was recommended to me over the higher level Corsair Domination Series was less troublesome. I told him that my goal was stability and at the same time although we are not gamers, we wanted a machine that was ultra-fast. He did what is called "active listening" and recommended a top of the line component that would meet those needs. HAPPY ENDING. Matt was able to rescue all of our personal documents and our iTunes library put into the latest version; a Miracle and we are so grateful. I knew he was not using hyperbole when he said "you will feel as if you have gone from a Model T to the Jetsons." Experiencing the truth of what he said was something else entirely. Per my request he installed the ESET Internet Security software that I purchased and brought to him. He also installed Microsoft Office Home and Business 2016 as well as Windows 10 Home 64 bit. Matt shared in our excitement and it was palpable. There is something special to be said when someone is excited about building something for you; good energy going into the product. All the above is a very long winded way of describing someone who is adept at what he does and at the same time able to communicate what he does effectively, honestly and compassionately; a rare trifecta of skill sets in any business but especially in the world of technology. That Matt cared about us as people was evident at every point along the way. By that I mean he did not see us as customers only; someone to add to the profit margin. For all intents and purposes, Matt IS Madison Geeks. If he went elsewhere we would follow him. Kahlal Cunningham, CEO of Madison Geeks would do well to make Matt a partner. If we had not had the conversations we had with Matt and the trust he established with us, a $3,000 custom built computer would never have been built. Had we not had the numerous consultative conversations no work order would have been placed with Madison Geeks; it goes without saying that building a custom computer is not the same as putting money in a candy machine and out comes the candy bar.
