Granted I maybe be bias & lucky enough to know Adam the General Manager here for over 30 years but the welcome my best friend Dennis & I received when playing here on May 5th was outstanding. Adam even had left handed clubs for me to play with as I had just flown in from St. Louis. The Clubhouse & bar area is top notch. Loved the beautiful course as well & I don't want to forget the wonderful starter at the beginning of our round. Adam & our other longtime friend Neal joined Dennis & I on the back 9 & it was a blast. Can't wait to come back & ohhh the hot dog was DELIC. read more

What a pleasant surprise! A light, bright open yet cozy space that overlooks the golf course but is still very nice in the winter. Roaring fireplace, huge new bar just made for people to gather as well as high tops and lounge chairs. The dining room is spare but nicely designed and the menu - lunch in my case - was very good. read more

I just went here today for the first time. It is nice. I forgot to take photos. I'll take some tomorrow. Any how I spoke to a nice fella at the gift shop. The website doesn't have prices. Just says fees for practice range but doesn't say how much. It is 4 dollars for 30 balls, 7 dollars for 65 balls, and 14 dollars for 150 balls. Cheapest price in town. Harry Semrow in Desplains is 13.25 for an extra large bucket which is 160 balls. So 10 dollars more, but for 75 cents difference. So 150balls is not bad for 14 dollars. 10 balls is nothing and harry semrow is much further drive. So this is apretty good deal. And twin lakes in Palatine is half price on mondays 4 dollars for a large bucket 70 balls. But only mondays. This 150 bucket at wolmette is good all days. No weekend hikes like other places. And they have a place to eat. Haven't tried it yet. But its better then no place. So no driving all over looking for a place to eat. Just hit balls and then eat when you get hungry or thirsty. read more

This is a very nice Golf Course and restaurant ( A La Carte). But the thing about the golf course is that at least on the greens they, they have taken away the holes do to covid-19. But to me it doesn't really seem right because I don't see how someone could get effected this way. And also there are some really amazing golf courses in the great state of Florida that have holes still. read more

I can't stand it when a golf course charges you the regular rate for a round of golf when the greens and the fairways have been aerated. Yeah it was my fault for not asking first but I shouldn't have to IMO. A lot of courses will drop their rate due to the crappy conditions caused by the aerating but obviously not here. The fairways on the front nine were really beat up and thin, the back nine was better...as least there was some turf under your ball. The greens were bumpy and sandy. Worth half the $53 bucks I paid, add ten bucks on the weekends. I just checked their website and the aeration notice is on there but no price adjustment. read more

I played here for many years, still a good course. The issue is the pace of play and management's response to pace. We rounded 9 to 10 and had 3 groups in front us on 10. We asked the pro shop for a rain check to come back and ease pace of play, but they said it wasn't slow enough to warrant a rain check. read more

I love golfing here. The staff does an amazing job of caring for the course and it is in great shape. The course is very well thought out and the greens are almost perfect. It is hard to believe that this is a public course. I also like the restaurant. It has a very nice food and beer selection. read more

Love this course and over the past 3 years it's become my "home course". The staff is outstanding, good practice area, and the course is challenging for many different levels. They always do a good job of getting a single player like me on as well as keeping the flow of play rolling (even on the weekends). Couple of tips: 1) Call ahead on to see if you are going as a single - they'll help you get out. 2) Going out to the range after work is going to be tough - schools and lots of locals there. 3) Regardless of time of day - bring bug spray. Much of the woods are in the floodplain and mosquitos can be awful in the shade. read more

A very nice golf course at a reasonable price. The service from pro shop to starter has always been friendly and efficient. It is a pleasure to interact with them. I also like that this is a very walkable course. I've always been paired with decent people. The driving range is mats only, but there is a large chipping/putting green which is nice for practicing or warming up. The course itself is not my favorite. The architecture/layout is interesting enough, with well placed bunkers and other hazards, but enough easier holes. It is Par 70 with only 2 Par 5's, both full 3-shot holes, and fairly short Par 3s. There are a lot of long challenging Par 4's. My issue is with the course conditions. The highlight is the fast, fairly smooth greens. They are some of the nicest rolling around. The rough is fine. The fairways however are truly awful. They seem to be a mix of 5 or more grasses. Overall I would say they are very slow fairways. You aren't going to get a ton of roll out, and you are going to find some very bad lies. You pretty much need to play the ball up in the fairway here. The real problem for me with these fairways are on the green approaches. I've played here a few times now and I see a lot of shots that hit on the green roll out to the back because of the very fast greens. Running the ball up really isn't an option because of the slow fairways and the angle into the green on most collars will preclude even a downwind flyer from bouncing up. All of this said, a well struck short iron or wedge will hold. It won't leave the huge ball mark I might see at other courses, but it is possible to keep it close to the hole with a lot of spin. For short shots around the green, again I notice a lot of decent players hitting good chips that will stick in the rough if they try to one hop it, and roll out too far if they carry onto the green. Nothing wrong with that, but its a high level of difficulty and I just don't think the slow fairways with fast greens are the ideal combination for fairness and playability. You will need to use your 60 degree to fly it as close to the hole as possible. However the questionable fairway lies and odd grass mix make hitting short shots even more difficult and unpredictable. Once on the putting surface, the greens are very fast and smooth. The problem is they get beat up and trampled so by even mid-day it is difficult to hole putts. In the few rounds I've played I've experienced and witnessed numerous putts seemingly going dead center veer off and lip out last minute. During the most recent round we had a slower group in front and no one behind so took a few extra putts on the greens and I realized it was a situation where these greens being so fast are a little delicate and get stomped down to the effect of forming a mini volcano situation around the hole. You could have straight putts miss either way. I didn't see anyone hole anything over a few feet ever. A lot of good close putts and nice rolls by the lip or lip out, just never anything holed. And a lot of short putts if you hit too slow it will veer off. I found it best to jam them in the hole for short putts, but that won't work from distance as it is too easy to roll it by. I saw instances of people hitting it 15-20 feet by. Overall I would say this is a really nice and enjoyable facility, and a great value. I would just recommend going into it with a little strategy to deal with the conditions, and tempered expectations for scoring, as the conditions make it a real challenge. read more

Cart path only after several 80 sunny degree days. Fairways haven't been mowed since last year. The rough is US Open length, which means you're never finding your ball. Overall, has to be the worst course in a nice city in the country. read more

Great price for the location (not a bad drive from the city). However, if you are golfing on the weekend, be prepared for a 6 hour round. The best summation of this golf course: we once played behind a five-some (yup!) of asian teenagers, with only 4 putters, one dressed in a Patrick Ewing tank-top jersey. The starter is a jerk. We showed up on time and waited 10 minutes for the group in front of us (no complaint). When it was our turn to tee off the starter began yelling at us to hurry up and mumbling profanity. "you guys are late - hit your balls hurry up" (as we are teeing) "how many balls are you going to hit you can't hit a shot". We spent the rest of the round waiting for the group in front of us .... The guy at the restaurant snackbar was also very rude. We are members at a few clubs and wanted to try something new but as of now would not strongly recommend (this is unfortunate as the course is pretty decent). Recommendation: Nice course, but really unprofessional operation going on here, which is unacceptable for a nice(ish) golf club. Step up service. read more

What a nice facility. More like a golf club than a public course. Staff is helpful and knowledgeable...they speak golf and appreciate golfers. Course is in great shape especially for late summer. You're going to love (or hate) numbers 6 and 11. Both are challenging but fair...we carded bogies on both and felt lucky. read more

This was my favorite course close to downtown. Unfortunately, the last year of closure to improve the course has me disappointed. Full fees and less than desirable fairways. Will take another year, if we are lucky. Suggest waiting until 2015. read more

I went to play eighteen holes and half of the fairways were unplayable and were wet as a dog. The greens were messy impossible to read and looked like they haven't been cared for since the nineties. People say it is the best course on the north shore but it is the worse buy a land slot. They're taking money from Wilmette people's pockets to care for the course when they're probably paying for golf balls. read more

On June 13, we had a reservation for 8 people for 12:30 to celebrate my Aunt's 99th birthday. When we got there, they did not have a table set up acted like they had never heard of our reservation. Half the dining room had the local Kiwanis Club at their lunch and the patio was full because there was also a tournament that day. After 1:20 wait with only water and ice tea and a visit from the Manager who never came back to give us an update on our order, we left. 3 of our party ate elsewhere as they had to get to work. The remainder of us went to Meier's Tavern across the street. Twenty minutes later we had a burger and a beer sitting in front of us. We have since discouraged 3 other groups of friends from going there. read more

The course was redone a few years ago and is now in great shape. The greens here roll really well. Aside from the course, the clubhouse and food service provide a great client entertainment experience. Good restaurant with decent food and a great patio to hang out on after a round as you watch people finish on the 18th. read more

I like this course. Yes it is short and easy, but also a lot of fun to play. I enjoy the patrons and workers. Everyone is very friendly. It is also very close to the city. One of the better courses within a 30 minute drive. Also very family friendly. I dont have kids, but this would be a great course for kids to learn how to play the game. read more

the golf course doesn't fit the new grand club house. One thing I will give them is that they keep their greens very well maintained. I think the 1st tee box is in the weirdest place... you can walk to the parking lot in about 10 steps. Way too close. Back nine is much nicer than the front. oh... and hole 6 (par 5) has this weird marsh area on the right. I feel like it's missing some trees in there... or maybe water. We went to try out the new restaurant providers, A La Carte, for a take-out order. The service was very pleasant. The food was delicious. The portions were just right. And finally the price was very reasonable. I would love to see the Golf Course app include a way to order food ahead of time and allow for a way to set up a reservation/order for the sit down service. Hope their sign about year-round service is accurate. Maybe the cross-country skiers can think about stopping in to warm up and have a snack during the winter. read more

The course is short (par 70) and the holes are on top of each other. Therefore, groups frequently hit their shots into other fairways. A lot of sand, but not much water. A fairly easy course. The staff (including the pro shop, drink cart server and bartender) were not very friendly. Also, the "grill" they advertise has like 5 items on it. read more

I think this is a fantastic golf course - most importantly, a great value at the price and easy-to-get-to location. I've played pretty much anywhere in Chicago - when I'm not sure where to play, I play at Wilmette. I agree with the fact that the 1st tee box is not in a great spot, but once you're on your way the course is solid. The greens are always in very good shape, as are traps and most fairways. Some fairways have had some water damage in the recent years, but are improving rapidly. The thing that keeps me coming back to Wilmette is the variety of shots required. Off the tee, you can hit driver on No. 3 and 4, then maybe on 8 and 9, and that's it until you get to 17 - most other holes require a fairway metal or iron, rather than mindlessly bombing it around. Short Par 4s are adequately protected with traps and green undulation, making for interesting risk reward wedge shots. The two Par 5s play very differently, with No. 6 likely being a 3-shot Par 5, unless you take a big chunk out off the corner...No. 17 can definitely be had in two, as long as you hit it in the fairway. You have to be able to shape the ball off the tee, right to left and left to right in almost equal amounts - same goes for trajectory...some greens ask for target golf, aka towering iron shots, while some others are made for the chasing run up shot. All in all, the course is memorable, offering solid and varying golf holes that all can stand on their own - no shot is alike. You're likely to use every club in the bag. Lastly, I think No. 7 is the best short Par 3 in Chicago, especially with the Pin on the left and a little breeze in your face. There's certainly a couple "bigger" and more challenging golf courses in the west and south suburbs, but for my $49 on a weekend, there's no better public course on the North Shore. Love it. Very disappointed with conditions of course after all the renovations. Many of the fairways have large sections of ground under repair, weeds and clovers everywhere. Many of the tee boxes are bare and for the price they are charging there are much better courses nearby. read more

I was so excited when I know the course was reopened after over a year of redoing it. And I was so disappointed by the condition of the fairways and around the green. There are so many and I mean many bare spots. I don't mind to pay full price for a nice course condition but come on this was just C+ condition after all. read more
