Just got hit hard by a flying golf ball shooting out hitting my car hood while waiting to take a right off of Golf at Harms. Luckily it did not go through an open window where my husband sat. Left a deep ding on hood. Called course and was told that they were not responsible to call the cops. Rude. The weather is nice today. There is no protection from the golf course and street where bikers , walkers etc are too. No brush because it is February that might slow it down. It is irresponsible for the golf course to be open if they do not protect the street from stray golf balls. Should not be open in winter. Be careful. I hope no one was hurt after the ball continued to bounce onto moving traffic on Golf. Very shook up. read more

My issues with Chick Evans lie not with the course itself- it's actually beautiful and great for all skill levels- but with the complete disrespect we experienced from Tom while checking in. We've now had 2 very negative encounters with this employee's tone and complete misjudgment. We are experienced players (my husband was a pro for many years) and Tom has belittled and discouraged us from playing twice. The starter also seemed to be well aware of his attitude problem when we left the clubhouse completely baffled. Management- my recommendation is that you encourage your employees to treat guests with respect and kindness. Tom seems keen on judging players by their sex or anticipated skill level, coupled with a superiority complex, and it's a disgrace to the game of golf. read more

Played at Chick Evans at 7 AM on a Sunday morning as a group of three walkers. The course itself was in good shape no complaints there. Unfortunately, the experience was soured by a ranger who was rude and disrespectful throughout our round. It really took away from what should have been an enjoyable morning of golf. I have played golf for 12 years and never in my life have I waited 10 minutes for a group to get onto the green of a 287 yard par 4. Guys held us up the whole back 9 and had the guts to start swearing my playing partner and I out, who both managed to be quicker despite us walking. Watch out for the hazards at Chick Evans Golf Course! Sand, water, power lines. They've got them all. Had the rare treat to see not one, but two golf balls evaporate upon contact with a power line. The water on hole 17 is a doozey too. Jimi hit his tee shot and next two shots in the drink! Always let the group of police officers playing behind you play through. They gotta get to their shift. I have played 50 rounds of golf with my 10 year old twins this year and always take a cart because one of them has a disability that makes walking difficult. This is the first course in 2020 that told me both boys could not ride in the cart together and one of them had to walk. The manager also proceeded to tell me the cart is only rated for two adults and cannot hold an adult and two 10 year olds that weigh 60 pounds each??!!?? And he proceeded to say that if he saw the boys in the cart he would kick us off the course. And to realize the starter, John, was the person that initially complained is baffling. He then had to ask the counter guy, who then had to get the manager. Why is anyone asking anyone about two 10 year olds riding in a cart??!!?? Complete idiots and I will NEVER RETURN. Regarding the course, the condition is mediocre, play is SLOW (4.5 hours to get through 14 holes), and it's typical awful Forest Preserve Golf with jean wearing idiots. Play someplace else as the staff is a disgrace and the course is not far behind. read more

Very kind people running the front desk and golf cart station who were helpful with any heads ups about the course. I'm less experienced at golf and we had chosen a later tee time so we were racing the sun, but we were able to get in 9 holes in about 2.5 hours (with a couple cheats). I thought the course was well-maintained with straighter courses. We even saw a deer and 2 fawns while playing. Overall, great experience! Thank you! read more

Came here Saturday on a gorgeous day to shoot 18! The Starter Jason, pushed our tee times up since there were golfers "walking" behind us. So it was just me and my brother sent out to hit the links! I love this course, it's well kept, challenging.......always gonna see a deer or 2 roaming around. It was a busy day Saturday, with the holes getting backed up. This is a well kept undemanding course. The staff is efficient. Their equipment is decent. Convenient location, and their twilight golf prices can't be beat! Usually the course winds charmingly along the Des Plaines river. With all of this summer's rain, there were a few flooded spots. However, the staff minimized the damage and kept the mosquitoes down. read more

I've read all the reviews and i can agree, the staff is nice, if everything is smooth sailing and nothing hectic happens. Once things get of order, they all panic. Today I played at Chick Evans and the staff has finally convinced me that 27.99 for 18 holes is three times too much for the conditions of this dump. If you've been here before, holes 3, 8, and 9 all connect. I tried to bypass the 2 or 3 groups in front by finishing up 3 and teeing off at #9 to play the back 9 (only because no group was playing #7,#8, or #9). I get to the club house and here's how it all ends.... the starter says "next time you may want to consider teeing off 30 minutes later, perhaps around 4:30 pm, to avoid these situations". Um....? What? You serious? Can you also tell me when I'm gonna get married, have my first child, where i'll be in the next 5 years? NO. I paid for 9 holes, and played only 4. I understand every player has their own level of play, but golf is a game of etiquette and no one should be pulling out their ball retrievers to grab anything that's 6 to 8 feet within the fringe of the water- just because it's reachable.... great excuse. However, the players being slow and lack of etiquette is besides the point ..... So to avoid being lectured by the starter (who happens to remember my face and says " I' m glad to see you're back from last season"), the guy at the register tells me I can play the back nine for $20 bucks since it's super twilight - excuse me, do I look retarded? How about you refund my 19 bucks for the front 9 and just charge me the original 27 to play all 18? THINK before you lose more customers. I love to play anywhere and anytime if the opportunity comes. Knowing the conditions of this garbage of a course, I USED to only play at Chick because it's less than a couple miles from my home. After today's horrific experience, I Will never use "location" as an excuse to waste my money there again, EVER. Chick Evans is great for what it is. You can't beat the prices. For less than $23 on weekdays between 11a-1p, you can get 18 holes with a cart. It is a short course (5900 yds, correct me if i'm wrong) and it does take a while on a busy day. But, it is what it is. Typically takes about 4.5 to 5 hours, so if you have a 1:30 tee time, expect a later dinner if you live in the city. The staff is really nice. The course often times has credit card machine issues, and when that happens, they let you tee off anyways and will come find you on the course once it's back up and running. Most people would find this annoying, but they're genuinely apologetic for it. Overall, definitely worth a visit if you have a good coupon. Good staff, hand-watered greens, some challenging holes. The recent weather conditions definitely affect the course. When its dry out, the course is pretty yellow. If it rained recently, bring extra socks. I'd consider it my "home course." I also want to call out the golfer who reviewed the Chick Evans not by it's course and play, but by it's hot dog quality. Pretty bush league. Keep the reviews relevant. read more

Chick Evans is what it is. Cheap golf close to Chicago. I'm not sure how some reviewers could say this course is long, as it is very very short (you can pretty much drive most of the par 4's with the wind in your back and a solid swing). I've golfed here hundreds of times in the last decade or so, and i've had great times (eagle putts) and horrible times out here (the lady behind us stole my PW and left the course). I'd give it 2.75 stars average over time. read more

A friend and I just played this course for the first time. It's one of my local courses. I really enjoyed myself (as did my friend). We are both fairly casual golfers. Took us 4 hours with an 8am tee time on a Thursday. The course is short, with some very challenging holes. The 3rd is what they call their signature hole. We both lost two balls to the two water hazards on that one hole. I have never lost so many balls on a course as on this one. Many opportunities to lose them in the woods if you don't drive really straight. On the other hand, we hit a few pars and a birdie or two. I loved the round. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. I think the negativity in some of the reviews is a little much. It is a public course in a big metro area. It's gonna get busy and be slow sometimes. Great course for the value. We played on Sunday at 10 AM for $39 including cart. They didn't have a ranger or beverage service but we didn't wait once until the 17th hole.They offer coolers with beer about the same price as golf. For $10 more you can play another 18 w cart. This appears to be an old course with trees separating the greens like a country club. The fairways are very tight and drivers are not always the call but they are so much more fun. Low handicappers may not care for this course but if you shoot 90 and above I would give it a shot. Super nice staff and every type of golfer. read more

The worst golf corse in Illinois. Fairways are crap greens are in poor condition. 9 holes in 3.5 hrs. No organisation, no rangers to control pace horrible is a nice word to say about it. Chick Evans has really improved its course quality and service over the years. Dont get me wrong. This is a simple straightforward short course, albeit with some tricky and unforgiving holes. But fairways and greens have been pristine all season long! It also offers great value. 23$ early bird during week and under 40 weekend early am tee times cant be found anywhere. I was concerned when former GM Dean left for Indian Boundary. But Art, his replacenent had beem stellar. Professional. Friendly, and appreciative of high volume customers. Awesome value on a great course! Went for the first time a couple of weeks ago and had a great time! I am a beginning golfer and have played several of the forest preserve and Chicago public courses. I have to say this has been my favorite so far! The course is a lot of fun, with some challenging, but mostly fun holes! Make sure you go online to find a discount coupon for golfing, I think I paid ~ $28-$30 with a cart for 18 holes on a Sunday? Forgetaboutit! Some of the reviewers that did not like the course seemed to be better than average/bad golfers, so they may have found it too easy. On the day I went the course was pretty crowded, but we were never waiting for the group ahead of us. I will definitely be back! read more

I just golfed here on May 14th tee time was 9:07am with 3 of my buddies. Over the past 15 years I have been here at least a dozen times including several men's club golf outings. My issue is not with the golf but with the food 2 out of the 4 of us fatefully decided to eat. We stopped into the club house and order 2 hot dogs and quickly ate it to get back on the course. By the 18th hole my buddy was sick as a dog and I had a case of food poisoning about 1 hour after we finished. I called Anna the GM of the course today and she told me that all the meats are precooked and all they would do to make up for me getting sick for over 6 hours straight was a free golf cart rental. This is was the only meal each of us had eaten all day!!!!! Maybe it wasn't your hot dog but the onions I put on top god only knows but it is not just a random coincidence. Anyways, I appreciate your free golf cart rental but I will never ever be back to this course ever. read more

A year ago i played C.E. and was so poorly treat by the manager that i vowed never to go back, But A friend talked me into going again and we had a wonderful time,Course was in good shape and new staff went out of there way to make our experience pleasurable. I have read these reviews and I think people have been unfair. I have played here at least twice a week for the past 5 or 6 year. Conditions have improved tremendously in the last couple years especially with what Billy Casper has to work with. The staff, especially Anna the Manager and Bob the starter are amazing individuals dealing with the likes of who plays here. This is a park district course and it is what it is. It's funny how most of these reviewers say they have played here numerous times but hate the place but keep coming back. Its not Medinah or even Wilmette and you are not paying over $60 to play it.. I am a low to mid single digit handicapper and have almost never played with a good player here, mostly bad (probably most of these past reviewers). You guys need to get a grip, if you don't like it, go and pay $60-$80 during the week somewhere else and also get treated badly by someone else. It sounds like you think you are good but couldn't break 100 on this short course and are mad about it. Go away so we don't have to play behind you while you are lining up a putt for triple or quadruple bogeys with your $250 putter you have no business owning. read more

Great Forest Preserve public course! Easy online bookings, very reasonable prices, friendly staff and Manager, good pace of play (we've gotten to go out as a two or threesome for our last two visits, and haven't had to wait at many holes or had anyone breathing down our backs; they were about 4 hour and 15 minute rounds on weekday midmornings), well-kept greens and fairways, and a drink cart a couple of times each round. When we've been paired with other golfers they've also been friendly and low-stress people -- nice experience all around! read more

The staff here do an amazing job despite having to deal with a demanding, inconsiderate and often belligerent clientele. The greenskeepers keep the course in exceptional condition considering many of the players refuse to fix their ball marks or divots and drive their carts up to (and even on) the greens. It's an honest, straightforward layout with a great par 5 (#3) and par 3 (#10). Look out for slicers trying to drive #17 green as you're waiting to tee off on #18. The clubhouse staff and starters are excellent at juggling the high volume of players, making it possible to play 18 holes on a Saturday in under 5 hours, a rare thing at a metro Chicago course. read more

Love this place. A couple of the holes aren't always in the best condition (I'm looking at you, #3...) but the rest of it is pretty nice. Fun to play, forgiving, greens roll true. Play can get a little slow on weekends or the one "perfect weather" day of the week, but nothing too bad. Bonus - I love the staff here. always so friendly. especially a couple weeks ago when we showed up on a rainy rainy Saturday and the guy, even though he was planning on closing up for the day, hung around and let us go out anyway. read more

What a great golf course. Seriously. It's shorter length makes it approachable for us middle aged average duffers, it's narrow and heavily tree'd(sp)? fairways, out-of-bounds that are either water or forest, make it a challenge for the long hitters if they don't have good accuracy. For those that hit long and on target, it's an ego boost! Friendly staff, but only if you're not an asshole. Simple advice: don't be an asshole. Occasionally interrupted by a herd of deer, particularly in the fall. Can't speak for the shitty reviews from 2011, it seems to me they fixed whatever was wrong. Overall, a great value. I love this course! having read some of the gripes of other reviewers I'm at a loss to understand how anybody could not think it represents great value. This is a public course, despite what has been said in other review, I've always found the course really well prepared and the staff to be super friendly. No it's not a long course, but then I don't drive the ball 350 yards so that's fine by me. There are some easier holes, but then the Par 5 number three challenges most golfers (you have to hit over water twice and there's a river on one side of the fairway and a pond on the other.
