NOTE: As of 5/26/2026 there is a huge pothole at the entry of this KOA. That is inexcusable- it should be at least patched asap. Very friendly staff greeted us, the place was very clean. The FHU's worked flawlessly. They pick up trash from your site. They had a live music duo and a giant bubble machine for the kids Memorial Day Weekend. Even then, it was still quiet each night. Nice little trail to a local coffee shop house and a very cute little "fairy island". Plenty of different sites. No pull thru's available. We had a back-in that was very big, easily handling our 42 ft fifth wheel and tow truck. And frankly, it offered more privacy with the trees and shrubs between sites. We enjoyed our stay here. The pothole and the circuitous exit were the only negatives. The exit can be a bit tricky to navigate, particularly if there is a rig parked at the office. After the office you need to take a weird left turn, then you have to avoid any incoming traffic. Oh and if your GPS wants you to turn left out of the park or do a U-turn down the road - go right and use the Military Cutoff Road. read more

We stayed for a night. We loved our campsite only one cabin to the side and nothing to the other side except a road but the sight is fenced in. Very affordable sight. They have a great playground and rock mining. read more

The employees are friendly and the park is clean. The dog run was a bit messy but the pups enjoyed a good run. The area gets a bit damp and I was bitten by mosquitoes every time I went outside so bring your repellant! I would also recommend extra towels for the doorway as we had constant mud issues despite the doormat we brought. Overall, it's a safe place to stay in a beautiful area. I think they need to pave their lots and roads to not be so messy. read more

On our recent cross country adventure, hubby and I stayed in a lot of KOAs! This one was very nice. Close to the beach, close to shopping/reprovisioning options, fuel, dinning. If you have four legged companions or young kids, there are really nice dedicated spaces for them. The kids (under 10) enjoyed the pool and the play areas. Lots of dogs in the dog park. Bonus points for the RV and carwash facilities immediately adjacent. read more

what a nice little spot! Very well maintained campground. We are in a deluxe RV pad site across from the dog park. The dog park is very generously sized and has fun little agility things for your pup. Plenty of trash cans and doggy poop bags. My son has loved the park and bounce pad. We did gem mining and looking forward to the other planned activities. The cabins look adorable and appear to be in great condition. You won't meet nicer people- this is completely worth a revisit in the summer. read more

We rented a premium cabin for my husbands birthday weekend. There were some maintenance issues. We had roaches and there was a menstrual stain on the mattress cover of the pull out couch. The front door lock was very difficult to lock and unlock. The shower handle was extremely loose and ready to fall off. We did local things and didn't hang out in the campground. The cabin was pricey especially for off season almost 200 per night. We could have stayed in a 3.5 star hotel for $90 per night and a 4 star for $120 per night. The price of the cabin was almost double what local hotels were charging for those dates. I gave 3 stars because the cabin layout was cute and cozy. The heater and hot water worked well also. I wish we could post pics on here. We took pics of the stain and roaches. When we went to check out and the office had a lady and 4 gentlemen behind the desk . I let them know all the maintenance issues we found. Nobody even apologized. When we arrived home everything was unloaded and left outside until it could be washed. The last thing I want to do is bring unwanted critters home with us. We also have an RV but chose not to bring it for a two day trip. Getting in and out of this particular KOA be difficult because the road in and out is really bad. I would hate to see it in active season. read more

My wife and I are traveling the Atlantic Coast on a lighthouse tour in a RV. We have stayed in several RV Parks along our journey therefore I'm beginning to know what is to be expected of a good park. Our stay at the Wilmington NC KOA was a last minute decision after a terrible experience in Myrtle Beach State Park. I had no idea what to expect from a KOA Resort since this was the first one we had camped at. Wow! What an amazing surprise. From the minute I walked into the store to the last minute we left we were treated with the upmost respect. Everyone there from Lindsey, Buba, Gabbie, Thomas, Jeff and the rest of the employees went above and beyond what was expected of them. The park is immaculately kept and an employee was always on duty riding the grounds making the park feel safe. My son and daughter in-law came up and stayed in one of the beautiful maintained cabins they have in the park. They told us it was a hundred times better than staying in a hotel. Wilmington is a beautiful city with so much to see and do, the KOA just makes it so much more enjoyable. It's a no brainer when writing this review that they deserve so much more than five stars. I could write several paragraphs on the many things they did to make our stay so pleasant however I'll end this review with you being the judge if you decide to book a visit. read more

I stayed here for one night, I had to make a last minute reservation while on the road. The campground is well maintained and clean. Staff was very friendly and helpful from making the reservation to getting checked in and escorted to my site. As with any KOA the price comes along with many amenities. I stayed in one of the many RV sites. They have different options to choose from for RV sites, and cabins. Happy travels! :-) read more

Converted my Honda Element into a camper and was told by staff here that it was against KOA rules to sleep in it and that I would need to bring a tent next time. Coincidentally the person camping next to me was also camping/sleeping in their Jeep Wrangler and they were not bothered by the staff about it. I've never had this issue at any other KOA I've stayed at with my Element and I actually can't find anything in the rules about car campers. Other than that it's a pretty standard KOA facility. read more

My wife and I have stayed in several KOA's and this has been one of the better ones we have stayed at. The restrooms were kept clean and it wasn't a noisy campground. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We were thankful for the wifi also. When we go back to Wilmington to camp, we will stay here again. read more

We are way more than pleased with our stay here at the Wilmington KOA! I was a little surprised at how close this camp was to a busy main road, but it has been so quiet! We rented the large deluxe cabin for three nights. We had packed and were prepared for what we are used to with cabin camping, which means we are typically responsible to provide our own everything (linens, cookware, toilet paper, everything). We were very pleasantly surprised to find that most everything (to even include plates, silver wear, and cups) were provided! Propane was even provided for the gas grill for our cabin! We also loved that we were able to bring our Saint Bernard with us and that the pet fee was just $5 a night...which all pet owners know is an incredibly AWESOME rate! Our cabin very clean upon checkin, the staff has been extremely friendly this entire time, the dog park was tidy, and my children also enjoyed the park and jump pad. The closest beach is only about 15 minutes away, so we were very happy with this as well. Our only wish is that we had time to stay longer! read more

Booked a five-night stay over Memorial Day week -- to attend a family wedding -- based on such great reviews. When we arrived Wednesday afternoon the place was pretty slow (calm before the Memorial Day crowd checked in). The office staff was very friendly and the campground looked great ... Huge pool, cute playground with a really cool pirate ship that my son fell in love with. The place is clean and we couldn't have been happier to find out we had a great site close to the park, pool and office ... Score! But then it went straight downhill. We parked our fifth wheel in the site and put the truck in the empty site across from us so we could get organized before finding it final space. As we open/closed the camper door, our little 10lb dog followed us out so we sent her back inside, but our son open the door and the dog came out again (she's not a runner, but wants to be right next to us at all times). We hadn't been in the site for 10 minutes total when the guy from 3 sites down (who seemed to be a mix of resident and site maintenance man) came to remind my husband that our dog is required to be on a lease or we face a $400 fine. Uh, ok. He then pointed at our truck and said, "you can't leave that there." Yes, we know. Again... First 10 minutes. Odd, but we chalked this up to the fact that there's always 'that guy' at a campground. No biggie. Sister and I headed out for some shopping the next morning and as we were driving back to our site, I turned the corner to see the "dog guy" and his female companion walking in the middle of the road (no big deal here). So as idled closer, they part and we drove between. As we passed them, I saw her hand go up (did she wave and I missed it? OMG!) As I looked in the rear view mirror, she was pumping her open hand in the air in the ole' '5 miles an hour' scolding stance. (At idle, I was not going more than say 6 or 7 max). By the time I got to the site, the office was calling to remind me of the speed limit -- the "5 finger enforcer" called to complain. Seriously. We hadn't even been in the campground for 24 hours! I walked to the office and spoke to the very nice staff and they assured me it would not happen again. They said no one should have approached us and that they wouldn't call unless we were obviously, repeatedly breaking the rules. They sincerely apologized and I left. We ended up only staying 3 of the 5 nights and moved to another campground. While they never said another word, the maintenance guy kept a close (uncomfortable) eye on us. I've camped my entire life ... Never had a complaint, never seen such unfriendly campers. The maintenance guy followed us on his bicycle as we pulled out of the campground (seriously), then must have gone straight to the office since they called us only 1/2 mile down the road. Again, the staff was extremely friendly and offered a refund for our two unused nights (being a holiday weekend, I never expected that)! I've long been a fan of the KOA brand, but the Wilmington KOA is top of the line. My wife and I called this location home for nearly a week while visiting the Wilmington area. For much of the week, we were the only tent amidst a pretty robust RV population. The location is kept extremely clean and the staff are courteous and helpful - it's clear that they take pride in their site and their work. The location serves as a great jumping off point for Wilmington, the area beaches, and other destinations in southeast NC. read more

We have stayed at this place many times over the years. NO MORE!! It is by far the most expensive KOA and it is near absolutely nothing. You have to drive 30 minutes to get anywhere. We stayed last weekend at the New Bern KOA that was voted #1 campground. We stayed on a patio site on the water with tables, chairs and a grill for less than we paid to stay on a dirt site here crammed in the back of the campground. You are charged daily fees for any number of people you have over 2 people so basically you're punished financially for being a family of 4!!!! The final straw was that we were scheduled to leave in the middle of a major thunderstorm. We asked and were told that no one would be checking in on this site today. Upon asking if we could stay an extra hour just to hook up after the weather had passed, we were told it would be an additional $25 to stay another hour!! So they had rather you hook up ignoring all safety issues than to be safe and enjoy the end of your vacation! I can't believe this is how you treat your customers especially repeat customers for years!! Wilmington KOA is a money racket and brings a bad name to the KOA in general!!! My advice. Drive to New Bern if you want a wonderful coastal experience. You will be treated with kindness and respect and you will get your money's worth. I will never be here again! read more

On the surface, this KOA appears to be clean and well cared for. I stayed in the long-term section for 3 years and, although long-term had cramped campsites, the over-all experience was positive except for one employee. Joe has been there for a number of years - he was there when I arrived - and was friendly and helpful at first. But he slowly began borrowing money, sometimes paying it back, most of the time not. He started cussing. Sometimes just a word here or there, then it slowly evolved into entire sentences - non stop curse words. Vile Language. I talked to other long-termers in the campground and all say he borrowed money from them and rarely pays it back. His rig was near mine and most evenings he would be outside drinking and cussing and sometimes playing very loud music. At times he was very loud and the cussing was very verbally abusive. Over the last few weeks it has really been out of control. The first time I complained, the manager told me to just stay away from him - very hard to do since he lived a stone throw's away. The second time I complained the manager told me that she was tired of hearing my complaints. The third time I complained - a week ago - I was told if I didn't like it there, I could leave - that she had asked Joe about his language and actions and he denied everything. By this time I was feeling very unsafe so decided to leave. A shame because, except for Joe, it was a very nice campground. But hearing GD MF B C repeated over and over, very loud, is not acceptable and having him stare at me - I felt very unsafe. I've lost count how many times I've heard "That GD F'ing B..."! Why the manager allows this is a mystery. Why the owner allows this is a mystery - and I've tried to contact him but every phone number or email I found for him goes straight to the KOA Office and Manager. Does Joe have blackmail on the manager? Do they have a "thing" going on? Is she just an extremely poor manager? I don't know. But Beware - especially if you plan to stay more than a few days - Joe will find you, borrow money from you, and the cussing will start. And if you are in the long-term section you will be exposed to nightly drinking and cussing. read more

Stayed here for a conference and beach weekend. The sites were pretty much booked for the whole weekend so we didn't have much choice on slots. When we booked we were warned about road noise and such. Maybe it's the AC in our camper but did not hear any noise. Bathrooms were clean and with the exception of when a group was getting ready to go to a wedding, not crowded. Had easy access to Mountain bike trails, about 15 minutes away. New Walmart less than two miles up the road for easy grocery shopping. Used the Kamp K9 and was able to tire out our dog. Would stay here again. read more

We stayed for 3 nights. It's a pleasant campground. The staff is friendly. The trash is picked up often. The laundry room is clean and has TV for entertainment while doing your laundry. It is also attached to a small media room with more TV and a desktop computer. We had free Wi-Fi during our stay. The campground was close to Downtown Wilmington, Wrightsville Beach, Carolina Beach and Kure Beach. We would definitely stay here again. read more

Rented a 1 bedroom cabin for a birthday party with 4 11 year old girls - it was perfect. Campground is clean and well maintained, quiet at night. Feels like camping when you are just minutes from one of Wilmington's busiest streets. Pool, playground and volley ball net all great. read more

The WiFi at this KOA park is totally inadequate. If fact, one of the employees at the office told me that she goes into Lake Placid to use the WiFi because it is too slow and/or difficult to get on at the KOA campground. Great staff. We have stayed here many times in our 45' motor coach. Close to everything you need.

As you have probably found out there are not a lot of camping options in this area! This was our first Koa experience and it was a pretty good one. The grounds are well kept up and well staffed. A few things to note I am not sure how they assign sites since you can't do it online but sites 1-9 are in the front of the camp ground and very close to the bathrooms BUT they are very loud with traffic noises from the road. Probably fine if you are in a large camper but it was very loud for us pop up camper people. We got ear plugs so we did have to keep hearing it. It is also pretty far north of town but with not a lot of options there is not much to do about that. read more

We stayed a week at this KOA and it was enjoyable. The staff was really nice, the grounds were clean, the pool was spotless, and the site was spacious. The only detractors were the nearby construction noise in the morning that made our morning coffee not as enjoyable, and the traffic on the made road is pretty heavy that it is really difficult to turn out of the campground. This said we would stay there again if in the area! read more

The policy on cancellation is horrible! The weather this weekend is supposed to drop down to 30 degrees (too cold for my 2 year old in a tent). I called to cancel my reservation and thought that I would have to pay 10 dollars. But no, I have to pay the cost of the whole trip because it was only 24 hours notice and not 48!!! Bottom line: Only book with KOA if you know 100% you will be going no matter what and no matter the weather. read more
